After watching this video years ago, I bought this exact kayak the next day. I love it! It cuts through the water like butter and is extremely fast. I know there are newer and better kayaks out there now but I wouldn’t trade this one for anything.

@@havocfueled what I enjoy most about it besides the speed is how light it is. It’s extremely lightweight, these newer kayaks are bigger and heavier. I started SUP fishing with an aero Bote rackham so my kayak has been taking a break but I still highly recommend it over any other kayak out there.

My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

My first Kayak was a Pelican Apex 100. I bought it was Dicks Sporting goods for something like $300 and it came with rod holders. It was honestly the best kayak I ever owned because it got me on the water. After about 2 years on the Pelican I switched over to a Tarpon (still have it) and love it at first but the thing is so damn heavy I barely even take it out anymore. It's easier to hook up my trailer and fish from my boat. But with that 30 pound Pelican I had I would throw that thing on the top of my truck and be in the water in 10 minutes.

+Kenny Cannon Thanks for the kind words, Kenny. May we suggest you take a look at the new Catch 120? Since it's only 750$ and approx. 69 lbs, it might be lighter alternative.

+Kenny Cannon Our kayaks are intended for inshore and calm waters, so we don't advocate going out too far into the ocean. As well, we recommend rinsing off your kayak whenever it's in salt water.
But if you are based in Long Island, may we suggest you enter this contest to win a Catch 120? www.longisland.com/news/01-05-16/pelican-the-catch-120-kayak-giveaway.html

TIP: 9:06 make some plugs for any holes you made in your kayak. I made four 3/4 inch holes for multiple mounts and setting up rod holders or shade etc.
    Think about this...
Four 3/4" holes adds up to one 3" hole... From experience... In rough water the kayak takes on a L-O-T of water.
PLUG THEM WHEN NOT IN USE!

For the measuring of fish, I suggest to the company who made this boat, take a hot mold with a ruler'ed design to measure fish and press the stamp right into the mold of the boat. Permanent, non-intrusive, aesthetically rad. Awesome boat man! Pleasure watching your videos for a long time now and a pleasure to watch you grow into 'living' on a boat, etc. Awesome sauce!

NGUYEN DINH Quoc-Huy agree with you, I have a lifetime tamarack that I run white water and big lakes with to fish.
It did not break the bank and paddles easy and fast even against 500cfs river flows.
I simply do as most do added what I need to make it work for my conditions.
For me that means being able to quickly convert from a fast water yak to a lake yak quickly and easily. The expensive kayaks do not have that flexibility..
Get the kayak you want and enjoy it.

Nice Kayak. Turn the Scotty Rodholder mount around. The correct position is when the rodholder does not completely come out of the mount when facing forward. It should be mounted so that it only comes completely out when turned towards you. Even more important in a small space where it could fall off overboard. I have a buddy who runs a sea kayak guide service on Lake MI. Your setup is well thought out and functional. Enjoy!

Great video, and I would not bother with all the opinions of others. This works for you and it allows for you to get out more often. I myself have an "Ocean Kayak-Scrambler" that was not designed as a fishing kayak, it was and is a DIVE kayak. in the front, I mounted a rod holder similar to yours and sealed it up tight. I have a 12ft. boat, a canoe and this kayak. The boat has not been on the water since 1999 as I do most of my fishing on the kayak. my kayak was purchased in the Tampa Bay area in 99, and I am in Nevada with no regrets on the purchase of or the use of this system for fishing. I prefer it to the boat or canoe. keep up the spirit....

I didn't want to say anything, but if I had the micro anchor I would put not be able to stop myself in trying to attach it to the bow, paddle upwind and then use the anchor mast with a sail to sail home. actually, I just had a thought, you could keep the micro anchor on the stern and add a forestay to the anchor mast and then attach a jib to it,HA. there ya go.

Awesome, I really like your upgrades. I've never owned a Kayak but have been using Float Tubes for years. Ohio isn't the most friendly place of anything that requires air so a change maybe required if I want to enjoy the lakes and rivers. Floating the Lake sin the High Sierra's was an awesome feeling. Nothing like hooking up a 12lb brown trout and having him pull you around the lake a few times.

The Catch 120 looks like it has a nicer seat than the Strike 120x and it's 4" wider so it should be more stable.
Just remember the Catch 120 might be a little slower.
The Enforcer 120x looks like another one to look at. It looks just like my Elie but with a different seat and no replaceable keel piece.

Marty! These are exciting times. This video is the one that convinced me that a Kayak is what I needed instead of a boat. I was stationed in Germany and watched this video and dreamed of all the fish I would catch from my kayak that I would buy when I got home. This weekend I got it! I got the Enforcer 120X from Pelican. Today I put an anchor trolley on it, and Saturday I am taking her on her maiden voyage. I will let you know how it goes. I think it's too hot in Georgia to catch any fish, but in my mind, that's why a kayak is better. If the fish aren't biting, I can just go exploring. Tight lines buddy, and thanks again for the inspiration. Hopefully some day soon I can make it down to Florida and do some Mangrove trails "Marty Style". Cheers!

Wow, impressive. I love all the detail you have put into this. I just recently purchased an entry level kayak for myself, from a company called Lifetime. Turns out it has reignited my need to want to fish. Your video kept me interested all the way through. Great job on this.

I have a rather long mail I have been wanting to send to you just as a thank you, with a few questions here and there.
I am from South Africa, and we have a few very similar water systems in the western cape, apart from fishing, on a personal level, you are very inspiring, not to mention the handy man stuff. I used to think having everything rolling around my dingy was part of fishing but wow Ive learned a lot.
It would be great to keep in touch, If you ever visited South Africa it would be great to show you our estuaries and waterways, we have an exact replica of your species in different variations.

The video explicitly says that it's brought to you by Pelican International - and we're proud of it. What we are saying is that we had zero control in what was produced. We saw the video just like everyone else did. The theme of this video is simply kayak customization.

+Pelican Sport I enjoyed the heck out of this build. Everyone should thank Pelican for giving me the opportunity to share these new adventures. Just like the man that made it possible for me to have my peddle kayak because of his donation. Without people like that AND now Pelican, I would be stuck doing the same old thing. And I've turned down sponsors that had products I couldn't honestly stand behind. So, if you're looking for a dishonest sales pitch, look elsewhere.

From the "Poor Man's" kayak to the Hobie PA, then to a Pelican! Mr. Zoffinger, you have are living your version of the American Dream. Your artistic creativity, and mechanical aptitude matched with a passion for fishing has brought you to these new heights. Capitalism is boss! Just please don't forget where you came from.

These kayaks are low quality and VERY heavy. I understand they are paying you but being a kayak fisherman you can't vouch for this garbage that literally does not track in the water at all.

      @PelicanSportVideos 8 років тому +18

+Broxty Hi Broxty, this particular model is 59lbs, so not heavy at all for a 12-footer. As well, it's made of thermoformed proprietary polyethylene, which, when made with this process, allows the plastic to keep its molecular integrity, unlike rotomolded kayaks, which have to break down the material's integrity during manufacturing, making the kayak in this video more impact-resistant than most. If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask at media at pelicansport dot com.

+Pelican Sport I've tried this kayak for fun at a demo, the thing damn near goes in circles without a rudder system. Not to mention the seat was like sitting on a bath mat. No at touch storage and that rod holder felt like Chinese crap.

    • @PelicanSportVideos
      @PelicanSportVideos 8 років тому +14

+Broxty Priced at $499.99 in stores, it offers tremendous value and performance in its class, and is not in direct competition with kayaks in the $1,000-$2,500 range.

+Pelican Sport I thought it tracked pretty good. But, Hey! Maybe faceless, Broxty isn't a troll and actually has many accomplishments in his life due to his hard work and honest opinions! HAHAHAHA Yeah, right.

    • @Broxty

+zoffinger This kayak is fine for a small lake or bay but anything else would be outright dangerous. I love you're videos but it makes me sad to see you using a child's kayak just because a company endorses you, do they not have a competitive model? Getting out of the hobie to get in this would be like selling you're live aboard and buying a 14' lake boat. Sucks to see this happen.

Great. Highly enjoyable to watch a focused citizen invent and excite us, I really liked this video, love fishing, by myself, and your ways show what one man can do. You are blessed with smarts and fish fever. I think that was the food that fed the world, a long time ago.

I love the kayak and what you have done to it. Congrats on the sponsorship! I can't wait to see how you did the livewell and anchor pole.. It is so reasonably priced. It is a blast to modify a kayak. I am always doing modifications to my kayak. Your videos teach me a lot. Thank you.

Marty--You are quite the craftsman with video production. And as every fan of yours knows, not too bad with a yak, too. I have followed you for several years and have told more than a few people about your original red yak and the mods you made to it. THANK YOU for the videos. I know they don't just happen without a lot of thought, time and effort. Best wishes!

Just bought my first fishing kayak. Very nice work on yours. I'd be scared to drill holes into my new purchase. I love the carry handle you made at the back, beautiful and elegant solution. I guess the first thing I should get is some sort of rod holder, then go from there.

My first yak was a pelican castaway. Low price and fun, but it leaked. I moved on to an OK Prowler 13. Heavier, but tracked way better and stayed dry. Still love the Prowler. This new pelican looks pretty decent.

Great job Marty. I guess I have my answer for what to by regarding my first kayak. I got so many different answers but the only consistent one was how long. I was gonna get the 10 foot pelican this summer. But I went on a tour and they talked me out of it. I will get this one for sure. Thanks alot your a innovative genius Marty. Hands down.

This is really some good work. I just got a recreational/angler kayak this weekend and have been scrounging the internet for the best ideas on how to modify it and set it up. Seeing things makes me take a second look at just modifying things myself. Nice job and thanks for explaining your mods - nicely done and always good to see how others made it work.

Keep doing what your doing Marty. Regardless of what yak your using, the important part is that you're enjoying yourself. I have 2 yaks at the moment (2014 Outback and Bass Pro Ascend), but want more. Its an addiction. I LOVE my outback, but it doesn't work for every occasion, especially shallow creeks. If i'm fishing a bay, I want my Outback. For slews and short river trips, I want the ascend. Wanting to add a 10ft yak to the fleet, but haven't decided which one. Some people are addicted to drugs, I'm addicted to kayak fishing so It could be worse. Thanks for the videos and keep em coming.

I've done the sponsorship dance on my own channel - for those who are viewers understand that it's a great way to open up new video possibilities and I'm certain Marty would only ever go with brands he is truly passionate about. He's always seemed to me to be the antithesis of corporate shill. For Marty - go for it sir, and just keep bringing us awesome videos. One day I'd love to drive out from Orlando and stalk you on the water for awesome knowledge :)

Amazing once again. I have enjoyed the adventures that you have taken and shared with your viewer/fans. I moved to St. Petersburg from N.C. and was really missing my fresh water fishing. I was discouraged when I tried to fish the local saltwater in my area due to the lack of my knowledge on how to fish saltwater. I saw your poor mans kayak videos some time back, and I started to get excited to learn from someone in my local area. Now, I would rather fish saltwater any day, compared to the fresh water days. I say to hell with watching the outdoor channel via cable company, I am watching the Zoffinger Channel via Marty. Thanks and tight lines.

We just bought a 12ft 2 person fishing kayak.
Also having a custom trailer built that we can mount the kayak on, as well as my motorcycle and other gear.
We bought our from Crescent Kayaks difficult to get a 2 person fishing kayak and this has some of the options you have.
