Honestly this is insane. I've been drumming for 7 years and the skill that you show in this video is unprecedented. You have impeccable timing and sound great with just the click track alone
thank you so much. learned more in 9 mins than yrs sitting behind a set of drums just pounding away. u da man, kid. plus you explained it perfectly as you went along. well, on to your next videos. think i'll become a jazz drummer now in my old age.lol
Thank you so much David for this lesson. I used to play most of the patterns half-aware of inward/outward paradiddles etc, now it felt like integration of shredded pieces into a solid understanding of what I'm doing.
even if i would watch your video with my eyes closed,i could simply recognise Gavin Harisson's influence)he's a very powerfull drummer,so well done! i like your lessons, and i've already subscribed! cheers!
Great tutorial. Nice demonstration with the three permutations alternated against the standard; made it easy to distinguish the displacements. Thanks for creating and posting!
oh and here's a fun one i like to practice. you play the paradiddle on the hihat and snare like you do and systematically replace a hand stroke with the bass pedal. like B l r r L r l l, R b r r L r l l, R l b r L r l l, etc. and then displace the exercise by itself and the same thing for all the different paradiddle inversions. thats been useful for me. keep up the good work, sir
Awesome awesome tutorial David. I just LOVE paradiddles. The sky is the limit with this rudiment David, as u have shown. I must admit, I have played for many years, but never thot of all these very cool variations for paradiddles. What bcomes more cool, is adding the kick to the paradiddle. Really look forward to seeing more of yr video's David. Keep up the Awesome job!
I wish I had more musical loops like these to practice the kind of groves to but stretched to 10-20 minutes it helps make it way more enjoyable to practice to
Very nice video. Great content and artistically done. Thanks for the track I can't wait to use it. Subbed immediately. I really dig using the fundamentals within grooves and fills.
Well first, this has been 2yrs from now I think. But it's really awesome crazy! Watching how you slice every details, man you are a genius. Waving from the Philippines! Hello Deutschland!
That was an excellent Paradiddle Lesson! I have been searching for a lesson on this and it's Best explanation of how to use as a groove I've seen to date. Great job! Do you have or can you do instruction on Paradiddles around the kit or for fills?
sorry for the next part, i'm french: you look like some a little angel but you're devil of rythme! Thanks for share your experiment and your skills. Obrigado!
Thanks a lot!!! Great job good lesson nice and straight!! Switching from Normal to out or back is hard u should focus on that. For me ofc I'm a beginner!
Great stuff, David! What is you recommendation: covering someone's grooves or practicing independence stuff (or something like Benny Greb's "drumset letters"). And would you recommend covering whole songs or just grooves? Also, it'd be great if you provided us with some of your loops for us to practise along! Thanks!
Hey man- great lesson and great playing! Can you give a list/breakdown of your mics you use? I really dig the sound you get. And if possible can you list any effects you use in your mix? Thanks for any info bud
hello. maybe you already caught this... but at about 4:30 when you're demonstrating the outward paradiddle you change the sticking to R l r l L r r l which i believe is an inverted/dispaced double paradiddle (i think.) sounds cool though and sorry about your laptop
Im quite impressed ~ . Being a "self-taught" drummer I never "learned" the different rudiments - Ive developed into playing rudiments but never put names to them and since I play "by feel" Ive never had a reason to. That being said - Ive always wanted to know "how to play a groove using the paradiddle because I heard a UA-cam drummer playing it but he didnt go into the mechanics of doing it - - now I know how - and it was a lot easier than I imagined - all thanks to the way you demonstrated it. As for suggestions - how about this: Are there any more "rudiments" that work as "rhythm patterns" or "grooves" that you can play along with songs? If so, how about lessons on each of the rudiments that work in that fashion. Again, thank you so very much for the instructional video ~!!!
Very good video. This kind of concepts was developed earlier by Gary Chaffee. This excellent exercise can be found in the study 43 of his book "Sticking patterns' (1994). To go further, the book "Rhythmic illusions'' of Gavin Harrison is a "must have"!... and listen Bill Bruford for beat displacement
I still call this lesson how to “win” at drums Do you still make videos you are absolutely incredible then and I can only imagine now you are the best in the world or close to it
amazing lesson david thank you so much you are VERY help ful and very good. i was wondering where can i get the backing track without drums for this lesson? i want to practice along
Love the Lessons! and Style of Playing. I love Gavin Harrison Style also !! very technical. Audix Mics, Yamaha Kit, Zildjian Cymbals and Shure in Ears.. cant go wrong!! Which Shure in ears are you using?
Honestly this is insane. I've been drumming for 7 years and the skill that you show in this video is unprecedented. You have impeccable timing and sound great with just the click track alone
Instablaster.
Really good. One of the few videos that shows the normal basic paradiddle sticking can sound really good when used properly.
Clean and smooth. Simple rudiment sounds like a million bucks. Very nice set up. Very good lesson and drummer.
thank you so much. learned more in 9 mins than yrs sitting behind a set of drums just pounding away. u da man, kid. plus you explained it perfectly as you went along. well, on to your next videos. think i'll become a jazz drummer now in my old age.lol
Thank you so much David for this lesson. I used to play most of the patterns half-aware of inward/outward paradiddles etc, now it felt like integration of shredded pieces into a solid understanding of what I'm doing.
Thanks David, you have given me something new to practice.
Your feel and groove is superb. Why I have only just discovered this!!?!
even if i would watch your video with my eyes closed,i could simply recognise Gavin Harisson's influence)he's a very powerfull drummer,so well done! i like your lessons, and i've already subscribed! cheers!
