Great talk by Robert Kelly and a very nice museum! Generally speaking, Americans don't give the French enough credit for helping us win the ARW. Wish there was more history taught in schools. Love that there is The American Friends of Lafayette org. Enjoyed this.
That was both interesting and infuriating. My frustration is compounded by having visited that museum before. IMO, he did a great disservice to the citizens of Gloucester by presenting its rich history as if looking though a straw. This reminded me of Fredericksburg's Area museum (and many others) where the most important historical events are omitted and ignored while the most trivial and inconsequential moments of its history are exaggerated and overly emphasized. For example, why was there no mention of what Union soldiers did to that tavern and local hotels, homes, and the nearby Courthouse?! Why didn't he even make a passing remark about the largest, bloodiest moment/war in Gloucester's (and America's) history? Not a single mention of how Union soldiers terrorized, plundered, looted, and ransacked the courthouse and surrounding area? No mention of General Chesty Puller's Confederate Grandfather who was killed and buried nearby? I've visited that museum and hundreds of others and increasingly find them to be disappointing as they pervert, twist, and manipulate history. Too many museums today are the equivalent of taking a tour of NASA only to be presented with displays about the secretaries, janitors, and landscaping crew. Thanks for sharing. I like your tours because they are more fair and complete. But, it was interesting to see what he emphasized about Gloucester's history. I hope the long-time residents see this.
Love the format Chris. Robert Kelly is a very knowledgable guide and curator. Thanks for sharing this very informative episode.

Nice video, if I am ever down that way I plan on stopping in for a visit.
It'll be well worth your time.
Interesting! All of the Abingdon references threw me off. Until this video, the only Abingdon in VA I'd heard about was in my southwest VA area.
Ha
Too bad this isn't part one of several more.
On my channel Bill’s history world I have over 30 videos of Robert Kelly
