Do you think tho due to Rogers massive frame is also what allowed him to become one of the best I’ve only been doing bjj for 2 years but I realize that frame has a lot to do with success just like in any other elite level of sport.
Yes and no; Yes a big frame and long limbs are helpful; But his mindset and his father played also a big roll. I think with a smaller frame he would be still one of the best; but not one of the GOATs.
I believe it helps but the real secret lives in the masterful understanding of weight distribution and consistent incremental movement with zero back peddling.
I’m the same height as him but much more athletic build from the standpoint of what modern society views as athletic. Aka I have a bigger ass and am more spry with more arch in my foot and a more bowed leg - I played Free college football. And there are much more “athletic looking” people than me too, so I think to say that Roger has all the advantages with his frame is misguided to some extent. Now that I’ve been doing BJJ for a while I realize frame does obviously help, but there are always better frames and advantages and disadvantages. That’s no excuse for Rogers greatness. Roger doesn’t have an incredible lower half or the explosion of a jacare or buchecha for example. To me, He’s just technically the best there is and in turn this is the reason he’s able to not get tired, hold positions, and ultimately play the game he wants to play - against anyone
Yes. He’s also a lot bigger in person You know how at Marcelo’s his students often develop a game like his. I’m a student at Roger’s and it’s not the same because you need certain physical attributes to suffocate like he does. He has a giant advantage in his build and even more so growing up with Mauricio as his father, mastering the ‘basics’ and what suits his body type. You won’t see Roger imanari roll, you’ll see top pressure you wouldn’t believe. And a balance and base you have to roll with him to believe (which is of course possible due to his long limbs). Having said that his technique is as perfect as it gets. It would just be wrong to pretend his natural body type plays zero part
What’s the name of the first sound track ? ROGER GRACIE IS A BEAST!
That's a scary dude.
