Hero Hei is an anituber that claims to be a financial-centric anime news channel, which "occasionally covers the broader entertainment sector and laughing at the madness of the internet."
On August 26th 2021, I released a video titled "Hero Hei - Manufacturing Fake Outrage". It's a commentary video that discusses the problematic side of his channel by outlining his propensity to conjure a false image on the Japanese society and their craft, how poorly he handled the news in the VTuber community, his massive yet vindictive ego, his ignorance regarding profit motives of companies in the anime sphere, and his unwillingness to change despite all the criticisms made prior.
On December 16th 2021, he came out with a response video entitled "Parallax Tried to Damage My Channel, Here's My Response." It's a video attempting to refute my original video on him. An attempt, while commendable, exposes many holes and contradictions on his part. Making matters worse is that it revealed his hypocrisy on several more issues, one that he wishes the people to forget.

    1. Despite an increasing number of municipalities recognizing same-sex unions, Japan as a whole still does not have same-sex marriage, and unlike some countries, such marriages performed abroad will not be honored in Japan, either. With that said, understanding of LGBT issues is growing, as demonstrated by the polls conducted in Japan over the years.
    2. As the name of the newspaper implied, the poll was conducted among residents in Hokkaido.
    3. “In 2015, the number of contracts quadrupled and revenues increased significantly in the category of Overseas. Indeed, “Japanese animation industry proactively started engaging in overseas markets last year”, as specified in Overseas Trends in the report. The export values which remained hardly changed for past three years suddenly increased, jumping from19.5 billion yen to 34.9 billion yen, and recorded the highest, exceeding 31.3 billion yen in 2005. The major factor of this increase is attributed to “shopping sprees” by China. Despite revenue increases in North America and Asia countries, the remarkable increase in Chinese market constitutes more than half of the increase.” - 2016 Report, page 4.
    4. “Looking at the regional/national breakdown, North America took the biggest slice of the pie, followed by Korea, Taiwan, Canada and China, and those five nations made up 33.2% of the total number of contracts. Also, the contracts that applied to all territories worldwide were 272 (up to 38 in 2018), a significant increase that made up 40% of all contracts under “Other.” While the rapid growth in the Chinese market from the previous few years was not seen in 2019, the number of global contracts, likely those with global Internet platforms, definitely increased.” - 2020 Report, page 7.
    5. Of course, Discount Store Linguini did respond to this Twitter thread in one of his videos. So incensed by the fact that Neath absolutely schooled him, he resorted to do some of the dumbest shit imaginable. This includes, but not limited to:
    • Calling Neath’s Twitter thread a "nothing burger" and claims it won't damage his channel, all the while boasting that he's close to 200,000 subscribers (like any normal, secure person would do, obviously).
    • Calling Neath unprofessional and lazy for using information from someone else, and later comparing him to a four-year-old.
    • Saying that the evidence was from a year ago and was thus irrelevant, calling it hilarious. (does this ring a bell to you?)
    • Starts to "lecture" Neath on how business works.
    • Replaying one of his old videos to debunk the Animelog claims.
    • Claiming that Neath is defending Michael Quin.
    • Shifting the blame on UA-cam's 100 character limit for the nature of his misleading video titles.
    • Defending the Vic Mignogna claims by saying "it's my opinion" and laughs (read: coping, seething, malding) at the rest of it, particularly at the mentions of Ty Beard.
Ultimately, it’s a bad response video that barely even touched upon a quarter of what was being said in the original Twitter thread. Somehow, Discount Store Linguini’s response was accepted by his fans, who simply took his word for it and didn’t put much thought into researching the validity of the criticisms made by Neath Oum for themselves.

The most disturbing thing about Mera Mera's apology to "Hero" Hei is that she's speaking through her animal avatar because she's literally TERRIFIED to speak in her real voice after the wave of harassment she received affer her video. Funny how hero hei uses that as a very very minor thing, because parallax called him a gifter, that point was completely valid to bring up, in this video, he still tries to just bring up clips without context, while I watched parallax' video before hero heis and hero hei's video covers parallax'video with full context, parallax is bringing up modern changes in Japanese culture in context to the considerably really old clips of hero hei, that too out of context.

Him claiming that the majority of anime characters are ambiguous about their ages is stupid. Usually, almost half the protagonists and characters are at least teenagers. I know there are exceptions like The Way of the House Husband and Inuyashikki (not counting the villain), but for him to claim that nobody knows the age of anime characters is silly, especially when Tsukino outright admitted to being fourteen. His biggest issue since he become known is that he used twitter as his main substance. Not a good platform.
Also, he's too annoying for people. Nothing that makes him malicious, enough to make people incredibly frustrated with him.
He also makes up an image of being a normal weebs which yeah, don't have any positive connotation.
If he seriously wanted to improve, he should either go full on his job and become a more serious reporter. Not some 5-minutes clout chaser.
It's bad in normal news, it's worse on the internet. Most of his issues aren't even that serious. He's creating artificial outrage for people to get mad on. We call people like that "Batu api" here.

    • @poweroffriendship2.0
      @poweroffriendship2.0 2 роки тому +7

Also, the big issue with him is he is no different than the rest of the reactionary anti-SJW/Fandom Menace community.
I feel like Clownfish TV fits the bill because both Hero Hei and Clownfish have similarity in mind. Both of them are considered themselves as "reliable sources", they always rambled on the certain topics and drama they talked about, having little to no effort on their content, and spread misinformation just to "spite on the SJWs". The difference is Hero is in the anime community while Clown is in the cartoon community (they talk about the anime too). Hero relied on checking out the tweets, ignoring the actual issue with the anime community, and he didn't even bother to censor usernames which caused a lot of drama while Clownfish just checked out on other sites and whined about the cartoons they hated, telling their audience not to watch it (Geeky Sparkles have a full Karen energy) because that's exactly what they said, and not to mention going after the people they despised.

as a non-american, watching these anti-sjw culture wars play out on mostly us-centric platforms where people talk about formerly colonised peoples outside the west this condescendingly is simply heart breaking honestly. things like genshin, anime and art are supposed to be an escape from the realities of a harsh world, and seeing privileged armchair 'political commentators' talk about us as if our histories, our legacies are something from a fantasy novel instead of real life makes my blood boil. we were here to get a break from whatever is happening in real life around us, and the fact that a full-grown man is legit profiting off the troubles of actual people is just too much to bear honestly.

      "Heart breaking" lol
All jokes aside, this comment didn't make much sense. Well, in reference to the man in question I mean. First you talk about political commentators and how they treat your legacies as "fantasy" but I don't see how hero hei does this.
And then the next follow up point really doesn't make any sense, it sounds like you just threw hei in that sentence while he's unrelated.
You're "here to get a break from whatever is happening around us" but then you totally change the topic to how hei is supposedly "profiting off the troubles of actual people, and how it's "too much to bear."
These statements don't correlate. I'm not sure how you got from "It's heartbreaking when political commentators treat our legacies like fantasies" (paraphrasing) to "he's profiting off people, it's too much to bear." (Paraphrasing.)

I have saved hero hei's previous comment on your other video, which is now deleted (The comment). So people who haven't seen it, here it is.
    "ll probably be watching anime when this airs so Ill just point out a few things now;
Based off your thumbnail(that pic is like 2 yrs old), description references, and tags(mera, silly, flow, all people who also made expose videos on me a year ago), it seems you're only going to bring up old news and nothing currently relevant.
I also don't believe this will be a criticism video, rather it will be an attempted hit piece because you personally dislike me, and wish to damage me in some fashion. This is displayed in various ways such as the expose hashtag you're using, as well as your actions on your Twitter profile.
Around August 20th, 2021, you reweeted a that was mocking me for my Uzaki videos. That tweet mocking me was made on September 3rd, 2020. You retweet it almost a full year later lol.
On Auguest 18th you tweeted that same old picture of me and said "Discount Store Linguini"... is that supposed to be an insult about my appearance?
Furthermore, you call me a grifter yet my content is entirely free to watch.
On top of that, I spent thousands of dolllars out of my own pocket building a website to provide people with even more content. The website is 100% free for people to enjoy and I make nothing off of it. That's the opposite of grifting.
My community also just finished raising over $5,000 for the Give Kids The World Village non-profit. I'm not asking my community for money and we actually raise money for people in need. Again, the opposite of grifting.
That said, I find it funny how the very first thing in your description is the text "Support me on Patreon!" and your Patreon link. I won't call you a grifter for it but thank you for the laugh.
I hope I am wrong about this video just being ah it piece based on old news due to your personal distaste towards me. An honest critique of my current content interests me, I am always looking to improve, and that's why my style has changed multiple times over the years. However, for the reasons outlined and some I have not mentioned, I expect this to just be another hit piece.
Anyways, I don't wish you any ill will. This won't be the first time someone has come after me and it certainly won't be the last. I wish you all the success in the world - see you around!"

Incredible vid Parallax. The first part was the one I was looking for, all the evidences of Hei's misinformation as well as those baseless arguments he made with his response. The second part was more of insults, which I get it, you do dislike him, and I commend you for admitting to that. If Hei is looking for criticism, he should just look at he first part of this vid and leave the rest, but, I assume he's gonna respond to the insults as well.
Now a little bit of critique for you Parallax. There are some times where you have to lessen the insults, mainly because people tend to get it out of context. An example is you saying that you didn't care about the situation of his family. That statement would most definitely be taken out of context by Hei's fans. And it would leave a bad taste to some people who have similar experiences. I understand that that's just you being you. Nowadays, people tend to be on the sensitive side, so be careful.
And for all the Hero Hei fans out there who refuse to acknowledge Hei's mistakes, rewatch the video, analyze it (especially the first part), and make a sound decision like a fcking adult. But tbh most of you guys are probably gonna spam you're useless comments in this vid, and smash that dislike button in the name of your lord and savior Hero Hei. Like the dislike ratio is gonna matter anyway when it's just addressed to you guys.

For me, the problems with Hero Hei begin with his libertarian alt-righter stance. For example:
    1) Trying really hard to paint Nagatoro or Uzaki as anti-sjw and anti-woke anime when those anime haven't anything to do with politics
    2) He has a strong opposition against anyone trying to be inclusive and especially for people who try to change some specific archaic ways of socieity. Any person like that is a libtard and a snowflake for him and his fans
    3) Woman roasting. As any libertarian on the world, he likes "destroying" women online (meaning childilshly insulting them without the person even knowing).
If he could take out those three points from his videos I'd consider him entertaining enough, since he covers many things I'm into.

I agree except for the last one. Hero Hei is many things but a misogynist isn't one of them. He's defended women, like that time he called out a misogynistic conservative man who said that women shouldn't wear clothes that reveal their skin and women shouldn't do inappropriate things. The only people he's (insert)-roasting are people of colour, disabled people, and queer people. The only times he's insulted because of gender are men-- despite him eluding to being a "male advocate", he called a male abuse victim "lame" and had no problem with China banning feminine men. As far as I'm concerned, there's been no "woman-roasting" unless it's a sexist woman. And to that, I don't care. Sexist people deserve to be insulted. Other than that, your comment is pretty accurate.

    (Sorry this is long)
You're right, initially I dismissed you because I thought you seemed negative and too emotionally invested, it made me think it could be a biased perspective even though it was not, this is the same reason why I've dismissed some similar videos in the past despite coming around to them and listening after my original decisions, in truth it's just because I didn't know you and of course I see Hero Hei's videos first because algorithm.
It was such a scummy response, endless assumptions about you, misinterpreting your words and projecting that on to the audience, and using his family for pure pity points and nothing else, you don't throw in life woes into a video like this unless you're trying to generate pity and stir up your audience, it's quite manipulative actually.
And this guy really got upset over a joke, I guess when you're used to seeing everything under a negative light all you can see is hate even in the neutral, that's all he does after all, spend all your days making 1 minute videos or so about Twitter and you're bound to be off your game, Hero Hei has no patience and no humility when it comes to his videos, he doesn't do his research and he always make things out to be worse than they are.
His channel's "about me" is so misleading, Hero Hei has never really been a news channel and maybe once in a blue moon it's about Japan, if his channel were actually about those things he would not be as popular as he is, short form content that's easy to make is basically a rocket to the top, you don't make much money if any off of short videos like his but they'll get your name out there for sure, when you're able to confuse people as well as Hero Hei you'll make more than enough money off of Patreon.
He's always going to suffer because of the negative topics he addresses and the way he addresses them, he will never escape criticism or critique because of this and because he does this every day he's never going to learn from real feedback, he'll always believe that everyone's points about him are baseless this is why channels like V1nce don't last in the long term, he was popular when Jellybean was being hated on but now just like Jellybean I've long since forgotten about him.
Hero Hei will never suffer from that issue due to his broad coverage of events but he will still get the criticisms and critique until the day he or his channel dies, honestly if he was about brainless tweets to begin with he wouldn't have to worry about any of this, he'd be successful without anyone caring about him, Hero Hei's biggest mistake was trying to be a commentary channel about Japan and anime when he doesn't put in the time or effort for that to work.
One last time though. I'm sorry for my hasty and wrong first impression of you.
