This is the best sounding demo of this amp I have heard. Nobody captures the detail of it and most people don't even bother to mic the speaker or do comparisons that keep the same variable. Im probably gonna end up buying this
Yeah it's good but he is using a lot of IR's, probably EQ, and other pedals. The real test is to hear it straight up just the guitar plugged into the amp. I mean you can make any amp sound good with all the IR's, and EQ and every other technology that's out now.
You really are good at dialing in great tones on all your gear. Your demo riffs are freaking sick too!! I have had my eye on the Fireball 25 for quite some time. Then I saw your video with the Ironball SE and I really like that with the additional features. Now I watched this and it sounds incredible as well.
Great comment, these three amps are also on my list. Both of the Engls and the Mini Rec. Been at it for a bit and still can't decide. Did you end up getting one of them?
Smaller gigs :-) I've had an opportunity to play this beast on the same outdoor stage as Kenny Wayne Sheppherd Band. With 112 cab and monitors no issues at all. Actually have been exclusively using this amp since 2013 for everything, it is built to last and sounds amazing. Thank you for a wonderful review as always
Been dreaming about a Mesa since I was a teenager, so when I picked up my guitar again... 15 years later, I pulled the trigger and got a Mini Rectifier. I love it. As you say, it's pretty versatile with nice cleans, a great crunch and excellent hi-gain sounds. It really has a huge sound. I don't use the 10w mode very often, but your video reminded me that the voicing is quite different between 25 and 10w so I definitely need to switch to 10w every now and then. Recently, I got a Mesa Triple Crown 50w which is massive, too, but as expected, quite different from the Mini Rec. Maybe you'll get that one, too, and you'll be able to make a review of it. As always, excellent video. Great job, Jon!
Had been searching for a V-Twin pedal for a long time and prices for those have been climbing. Found one of these without bag or footswitch for $360. Grabbed it and cannot wait to hear it through my Vibro King cab
I have both, like you I started with the MKV:25 and got the mini rect later. I love it, both great amps but the simplicity (in comparison to the mk) appeals to me. I found it sounds a bit thin at low volumes I had to buy a attenuator to be able to use it at home but it was worth it. This thing really comes alive when the volume is up a bit. Its built like a tank too.
I love mine, and I'm not absolutely a metal player, I use it with my cover band for everything from classic to hard rock. Great classic tones and that unmistakable recto growl, and tons of db for such a small amp. The only minus that i've found is that it doesn't clean very well in the pushed channel with guitar volume like some single channel amps do. Great video and playing!
I've played a lot of different amps over the last 25 years or so. Just picked up one of these mesa mini rectifier twenty fives. It is a scary sounding amp especially on 25w modern setting. Absolutely insane and I love it ! The mesa roar is something else..Extremely articulate and responsive. I can't believe the wide variety of tones mild to wild without a doubt. Lots of adjustability, not a one trick pony at all. My 6505+ 60 watt head conversion is gonna be gathering dust now sadly 😅
I remember hating mesa rectifiers for many years because of that flubby low end. Then I found out that pretty much everyone puts an overdrive in front of it and all of a sudden the amp made sense. This sounds great, these modern mini heads are like magic.
The Mini and the Rectoverb have unique tones for sure, very mid present and suited for rock and country and what not. I know players of bright guitars like Strats and Teles will really appreciate them as well as us Rock Hounds looking for killer tone. My Rec pushed with a Fluxdrive and coupled with EMGs is brutal. The ‘rec tone’ will NOT get lost in the mix.
@@oldguyjammin9732 Single coil guitars rarely sound bad with Mesa amps. The saddest thing for Mesa was their Rectos being associated with active hum buckers and Metal, essentially pigeon-holing fantastic, versatile amps. The versatility of the Mini should not surprise any fan of Mesa amps, but I think it's capability to sound equally as good in a mix, with it's own character, is definitely surprising. I personally made the mistake of associating Mesa with Metal and as a piss take, tried a Dual Rectifier with a Telecaster in a store many years ago. I quickly realised what a mistake I had made about Mesa! Bordering Fender Cleans, driven Plexi-esque tones, all the way to Tool. With a fucking Telecaster!?
@@3rdStoreyChemist - yep, my hats of to the Mesa guys and gals for being able to create an amp that covers such a broad range of tones and sounds. From Strats to EMGs tuned to drop B :) F’n Eh?!?!
HI I really liked your review of this amp. Not only did you go though all the features, you used various guitar pickups and tunings. I wish all amp reviews was this good,!
i think I've mentioned before, I'm saving up for the Rectoverb combo, just cause its got the Spring Reverb. This video has further convinced me that's the right move. Thanks for the video! Your riffs are killer!
Get an EVH 5153 6L6, it's way cheaper and sounds bad ass all the gain, then just buy a cheap reverb pedal. I think nowadays you can get any tone you want from any amp especially if you use EQ, IR's, and pedals. That's why I like reviews where they just play the amp straight up. Guitar into the amp and that's it.
This is the best sounding amp demo I've heard where light distortion to full on metal is concerned. I really want to get one of these but I've read horror stories about their QC issues and if I buy it used, I'm worried they're selling it because they have a bad one.
This demo/review was well done. Thanks for using different guitars with different tunings and pickup configurations. I may have to add one of these to my arsenal now.
This one definitely surprised me. Sounds great at so many settings. Any thoughts on this vs the ENGL Fireball 25? Those two are top of my list right now.
I've the Mini Rect, it sounds preety like the Single Recto with EL34's. Without that "flubby" bass when with 6L6's. The EL84 makes the Mini Recto a very versitile amp, and we also can get some honest plexi sound with the clean/crunch channel.
plexi sound? NONE of the mesa mini reviews i've watched got even close to a "plexi-like sound"... i was thinking on selling my Origin 20H to get this Mesa but i guess i'll miss the classic rock tones from a plexi-style amp more than i miss the modern high gain today... got a little disapointed with the Mesa :(
Excellent review. I have a JVM and love it, but hate to haul it around. I got a PRS MT and the gain channel is stellar. The clean channel is crap. It is super clean and lacks dynamics. What I play goes from very clean to mild and mid level distortion to heavy and have to have an amp that can cover it all. I have used MB in the past and loved it. May have to try this one. Thanks again.
I really dig that clean riff you played at the beginning with the LTD. Is that something you wrote for the video? I like the bass line and how it changes keys. Reminds me of something I would write. The last riff you were playing had a really cool riff in it too at the higher frets. I would like to see how the amp sounds just by itself though, no reverb, no IR's, no EQ. I always found Mesa's have to much low end.
