I had a chance to play one of these in person the other day. This may very well be the best-sounding amp I've ever played in my life. Absolutely perfect!
I have the Rectoverb 50, and after four years, I still haven't experienced all the possible tones I can get from it. But in the recording studio, it has been my most incomparable friend. Great amplifier, unattainable sounds.
I really like this little amp - I know it has a Boogie price tag & that this will be out of some peoples reach, but for those that can afford it, I think this is going to be a real contender!
you know Capt...i think you're one of the best blues players i've ever come across. Can I ask a question? what are the chords you use for ur blues riff?
love that! it almost gets a little glassy when you open it up but it never was bad, just close enough. you guys are hysterical! keep it coming and thank you!
Was flicking through an old Total Guitar mag from 2008 yesterday while on the bog... and I stopped on a page, who did I find?. Chappers himself, had to smile.
Great video review as always guys. Your audio is spit on which makes this an awesome place to get reviews. You guys are definitely in my tour stop when I cross the pond. As for the price, yes it's higher but you can not I repeat can not doubt Mesa quality. This unit will easily last you a lifetime if you care for it. It's not meant for starving artists. It's a brand just like Mercedes or Bentley or Gibson (Les Paul). However, there are plenty of used MB you can pick up if you want to join the family. These guys don't devalue like some of the amps mentioned above. I personally like the Mark series but I can see this big a big seller. Cheers!
I've owned this amp for a month. It's badass. Not what I expected, but sweet sounding. For all it's knobs, it's got only 2 sweet spots for blues. It's not that loud. I can jam in a bedroom on 25 with the master on three at it's not going to piss anyone off. I've only ever owned lower end fender amps before this one so I think this amp is super, super dark. I'm playing a heritage 535 with SD humbuckers. Sounds awesome, but it takes some time to dial it in, one you do, you can make the tubes break up with just the way you attack the strings. It's worth every penny of the pricetag. I don't even think the speaker in broken in yet......😀
IF YOU NEED TO SAVE UP AND YOU HAVE A TUBE AMP ALREADY GET A ROCKTRON ZOMBIE, IT NAILS THE DUAL REC TONE WHEN USED WITH A TUBE AMP, ROCKTRON DESIGNED IT THAT WAY AND IT WORKS GREAT
Love Pete. He is such a great player. Seems like a cool, humble guy - too. Really enjoy his Demo's with Mick Taylor - they are fantastic together. Killer Amp. It's a little beast.
Asides from showing off a really killer amp, this video makes me want the ML7 so incredibly bad. One day Chappers, I'm gonna hold one of these in my hands and it will cause pure sonic WIN, ripping through the fabric of space and time itself :P
I get the feeling that the earlier ones with the Fillmore FM-75 speaker are the real MVPs. It's like the later V30 ones but with all the super-harsh and irritating frequencies taken away. Also, Chappers, that was an interesting dreads, t-shirt, blazer combo you were wearing 8 years ago!
Well it turns out that after 2016 Celestion changed something on their Vintage 30 speakers that make them sound objectively far worse in most people's opinion. I've seen videos and sound charted tests etc.. done on the models (2006, vs 2015, vs 2016, vs 2017, vs 2022 etc..) And the 2006 sounds a "little" bad in some ways but not much, the 2015/2016 sounds perfectly decent, and the 2022 sounds AMAZING. However the 2017 models all sound super "distant" and fizzy with almost NONE of that forward bright chunky tone that V30s are famous for. So tbh with you, it could just be that the V30 models used in these are from the bad 2017 batch (Look for a transparent dust cap on the speaker, those are the good ones. The ones with black/dark opaque dust cap cover are the bad quality ones) I'm curious how this amp compares to the Recto-Verb 50 that has Celestion C90 Black Shadow speakers just like the Road King and Roadster Cabs do. I have one in the mail right now, so wonder how it stacks up.
What a mega sounding amp! Really considering one of these to replace my mini jubilee combo. It's a great amo but am dreaming of two proper channels and built in reverb.
One thing many don't understand is how much more it costs Mesa to hand build these in the US. Also, sort of like Fender and Gibson, Mesa's hold their value. Last, and most importantly they just sound fabulous, in person and at concert volumes more than in a video. Thanx for the good video.
The clean channel nails all the tones that I love hearing other people play but have no desire to ever play myself. I'd say this might have the best solid rock tones you can get. Don't think it has the perfect metal tone I'd like. Think I'm still gonna go for the Blackstar Ht-Metal 60. *Fun fact of the day: Jimmy Page is the one playing guitar on the track "It's Not Unusual."
The best review you guys have done was the Fender Amps comparison with the DeVille Hot Rod Deluxe III. You got right to the point and described the amps features and then sampled its tones. Less chatter allows your audience to focus on what you're selling and reviewing, but otherwise you do great reviews.
Sorry I know this is an old comment but do you still rate the 50? Can you still get good tones at Low volumes or do you need to blow out the windows 😂? Thanks, Dan
@@dannyboyblue1111 You don't have to blow out the windows - but it's not a bedroom quite practice amp by any means. Using a clean boost in the front will help a bit too saturate the tubes for decent tones at acceptable volumes. Mark V series is really good for dialing in lower volume tones - but that's quite the price premium.
great review guys, about the teacakes, they are Scottish and so good they can be bought all over the world, the whole range is awesome, caramel logs are also fab
Hey Lee, This is off topic but when is Orange going to be releasing their new 100w & 50w terrors that debuted at Namm 2 weeks ago? Also since your a Dtrat guy, how do you like Fenders new Vintage lineup 54-64 I think. Do they play pretty good?
Hi, buddies. Just a question. Did you ever tested ENGL Amps? I'm interested by the Gigmaster serie. Whatever. Always great (and funny) videos! Thank you!
Looking into buying one of these, I found this video, and MAN, I did not know Pete worked for the MB distributor at the time! I love how relatively laid back and sedate Pete was back then (of course, not working for Anderton's at the time and having to present himself a bit differently) lol...
How do these amps compare to the older 5:25 Express amps? Hard to really tell when your not in the room with the amp. I have an 11 year old 5:25 that is pretty exceptional with a well worn vintage 30. It sounds remarkable and I'd love to hear it side by side with one of these amps. Wondering how much of the tone is attributed to the speaker.
Mesa Boogie Rectifiers are one of the best amps out there. Boutique amps at a lower pricetag. The older Trem-o-verbs IMO are the best of the bunch still today. Just amazing sounding!! Kills this weak video.
Yo chappers, I don't know if someone already has brought this up. But, when are you guys gonna make an ML-2 in a "Tobacco burst" or "heritage cherry"? Because I will be one of the first to buy one. Cheers m8
Nice video guys, but try to not only use Chapman guitar, don't get me wrong, I love them, great sound and my next purchase will definitely be a chapman but, please, use other brands (ok fender at the end, but 30sec on a 18min video...)
you can really hear the picking dynamics and the attack very well with this amp, i might pick this one up for some work i have coming up! either this or a much cheaper jet city 20 watt head and 2x12 matching cab lol
It's £1,399 because it's a Mesa Boogie, and because it's a Mesa Boogie, it's just... Blah... Give me Orange or Victory any day of the year! Have to admire the guy's passion though, where there's passion, there's love for music, there for fun, and that's all that matters. But I must admit... I like this Amp. :D Rob, Lee... Orange Dual Terror! :P
Great video guys, as always. Amp sounded great. One thing that I would LOVE to see from you guys is a review of the new Ernie Ball John Petrucci Majesty signature guitar, is that planned? That would be awesome.
I love this amp, it seems to be all things to everyone without the need for modeling...fantastic review, fun and entertaining to watch...but, in reality, I know that I have no-chance of ever owning one because it really is way, way out of my price range :-/ Still fantastic to watch and listen to though, thanks ;-)
This is my first amp and I absolutely love it. One thing I love about it is that I can play it at home without destroying my ears like my Marshall 100 watt tube amp on 2 4x12 cabs.
In Europe, Rectoverb 25 is priced almost same with JVM205C. Trying to decide between the two. Any suggestions? How do they compare? I owned JVM410H but sold it. Rectoverb sounds great on this video.
Sounds remarkably similar to my Blackstar HT-5 which I was playing like 5 minutes ago. I've either gone tone deaf from playing at whisper levels or they're very close tonally.
One of the best sounding amps Ive ever heard.
IPushHard: I just bought one. Hope I’ll agree with you;)
@@BCTGuitarPlayer are you in agreement?
Roland Cube is bettter
I have one. And it’s so versatile. The clean tone is unmatched.

Brilliant, 18 minutes of fun muso, ampy, stuff. Keep it coming guys.
I was particularly impressed by the cleans that this amp did. Neat!
I really like this little amp - I know it has a Boogie price tag & that this will be out of some peoples reach, but for those that can afford it, I think this is going to be a real contender!
looks like for the price you can get an awesome sounding versatile amp though, so must be worth it cpt!
you know Capt...i think you're one of the best blues players i've ever come across. Can I ask a question? what are the chords you use for ur blues riff?
hondansx1000 mainly E7 and A7 I believe
sweet, thanks :)
Better sounding than the last time Peter was at Anderton's with the Express Plus :)
What a clean sound, one of the best definately i've heard.
Such sweet tone across many genres. I've always loved Mesa
That is some absolutely luscious reverb.
you were right, i do love it!! really do..amazing amp!
love that! it almost gets a little glassy when you open it up but it never was bad, just close enough. you guys are hysterical! keep it coming and thank you!
Watching these older videos, I must say KUDOS CAPTAIN!! Your playing has improved immensely. All of the hard work is paying off.
One of the best sounding amps I've ever played through.
peter is one hell of a player
Wow - this amp sounds awesome! Great video guys! Could've watched that for hours.
Love when you guys have a guest. Get to hear even more of the product's range.
Dude ... that reverb along with the amp is A+
Proper playing by the Capt. - totally gonna steal that!
Peter's style is so silky. Awesome.

omg Pete when he was at Mesa! Bringin a tear to my eye
What a mega sounding amp! Really considering one of these to replace my mini jubilee combo. It's a great amo but am dreaming of two proper channels and built in reverb.
Brilliant vid, never thought I'd want to spend that kind of dough on a small combo amp but now I do.
I saw the title of the video & the product name of "Rect-O-Verb" and thought there'd be butt jokes aplenty. At 00:57 they were off & running!
Someone put Randall and Peavey in the same class as Boogie, haha that's a good one
