When I hear a Porcupine Tree song I always think, this is my favorite one. Then I listen to another and think again, this is my favorite one. Does anyone else have that awesome dilemma?
II'm 60 years old. I've been through the 60's-70's and all !! My favorite group is Pink Floyd!! But I've been listening to PT for the past 6 year's and I haven't looked back since. Every day I listen to them ..doesn't matter what song ... even though I have my favorites , love the way they put everything together!! Harmony's and all. Drummer KICKS ASS!! they all do really!! Thanks for downloading on YT for us all to hear!!!!!!
Big Floyd fan here, I started listening to them when I was 15, A Momentary Lapse of Reason had just come out and later on I saw the Delicate Sound of Thunder VHS and I was amazed by all the lasers, sound and outstanding effects, Gilmour's voice and guitar playing. In the late 90s a friend of mine said to me "listen to the new Pink Floyd" and he lent me The Sky Moves Sideways, I was hooked, I felt the same emotion and eagerness for more as when I was 15.
Michell Guzman ... same here. Momentary Lapse of Reason got me hooked on Pink Floyd. Huge PF fan!! Never had a chance to see PF in concert, which I will regret to my dying day. Have seen Roger twice, and David at the Hollywood Bowl. I LOVE PT so much! Awesome, awesome band!!
Now I' m 65 years old, sitting in a private chair, but my head, hands and arms are okay and i have played guitar all the time of my life. - Now i have to go into a retirement home, but I AM NOT AFRAID: Because yesterday i bought a PRS guitar, a "black cat" amp, some effect pedals and a drum machine ( because i don' t think they have a prog rock band there!) - and i keep all my P.T. music and tutorial videos! - So my life-end-resort can come - I'M PERCECTLY PREPARED!!😃🎸
empathy...my best mate died from cancer 8 years ago and I miss him more than I could have ever have imangined. loss..gain..change..what a lesson for even less than? everything is a gesture..but this is as genuine as I can respond. keep loving keep listening
John Wesley, although he was only a touring member contributed so much to PT’s shows. His guitar playing and his backing vocals have so much depth to Steven’s songs. I hope Mr Wesley is having a continued successful career as a musician. Oh, and a fantastic song from a phenomenal album.
SW & Porcupine Tree rescued my great love & passion for music which had grown stagnant & something I was beginning to associate with bygone youth...I could try but would never be able to express the magnitude of what that means to me.
To Bill Ebnor, I'm 62 , been listening to Dream theater since 1992 grew up with the Who & Keith Moon, Frank Zappa, I was ready for something new, these guys do it for me
I’ve been a fan for a solid week now(LOL) and can’t get enough of them. I’ve literally listened to them no less than 8 hours a day since last Friday. Pink Floyd has been my number 1 band for 40+ years and I truly believe PT has replaced them. Still struggling to accept they have been around so long and I’ve never heard of them.
I feel the same, having discovered them a month ago and already know most of the words to so many of the songs and they are plugged into my headphones every night when I get home from work and I listen to them all day at work and they are plugged into my head all weekend too. It's soooo nice to have something new, but it's not new and so where have I been? I thank the universe for Steven Wilson every day now.
+Kerry Gardner How privileged were you to have witnessed this masterpiece! Was that the Tilburg show? If there were an afterlife, this is the music that would be played there.
+David Burton There is an afterlife, it is simply a matter of choosing where one will spend it. Jesus Christ died so you can have eternal life with him. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, whoever would believe on him, would not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16 the purpose of this life is simple, it is to choose where one will spend his eternity. The cost of eternal life is free however it is not cheap, It Was Written in Blood on a wooden cross 2000 years ago. He would have died and sacrificed himself even if it was only you. Know this my friend. he loves you and is patiently waiting for you to come to him. However he is a gentleman and will not force you, it is a free choice, yours to make. Choose Life!!
Rob, I wonder which afterlife you mean. It could be the Christian version as you've quoted, but it could also be Jewish or Islamic among the Abrahamic faiths where your actions in life are judged as good or bad by whichever god presides. Then again it could be Norse afterlife in Valhalla ruled by the god Odin, where your past glories in battle are celebrated. Or it might be the Hindu afterlife where the soul is recycled to a different body in a new life which is governed by Lord Krishna. Perhaps you could consider the Wiccan afterlife in The Summerland where the soul rests and learns from its experiences. All these ideas of afterlife are variations on one theme, and one is no more valid than any other to someone looking at them objectively. The point in general is that you or I don't actually know, but we have our opinion formed by our life experiences. My point specifically was that this song would be a wonderful soundtrack to any afterlife in which you have belief.
A body is washed up on a Norfolk beach He was a friend that I could not reach He thought I was cold but I understand But for the grace of god goes another man And I may Just waste away From doing nothing But you're a martyr For even less For even less For even less A choirboy is buried on the moor Where we used to go dreaming when we were bored Some kids are best left to fend for themselves And others were born to stack shelves And I may Just waste away From doing nothing But you're a martyr For even less For even less For even less
Those were my thoughts exactly pacrat90 about 9 years ago. I just turned 56 in March and have followed music closely since the late 60's. P.T. in my mind are one of the best, most original bands I've ever heard. Props to Steve Wilson for his musical genious and for putting together a group of extremely talented musicians.
An old Rock Band I used to follow had a great lyric. We had a flying guitar man Maybe the fastest in the land But he was going no where fast Speed ain't nothing withouth class The Good Rats
One of my all time fave Porcupine Tree tracks... the power they get through this song when they play it live, is awesome. Steve Wilson is a genius. He truly has his finger on the pulse of life. enjoy!
I sarted listening to the band with this song..... said to myself :" this moved my inner feeling and senses upside down". I was working at the moment the song started and I became completely literally paralized ( I just stoped doing what I was doing at the moment and listened to the song).
Often wondered why Steven changed the words slightly when playing this live. On the record it's "You're a martyr for even less." Here, and when I saw them live, he sings: "I'm a martyr, to even less."
I think he's getting confused on the verses. If you listen to the 'recordings' album, you'll find that Even less had a few extra verses. On the regular verses, it's "you're a martyr for even less". However, on the extra ones it's "I am a martyr to even less". So, I think he's mixing them up.
Amazing song from a band who have the incredibly rare ability to sound even better live than on the studio versions. Im gutted i discovered this band so late, It has opened me up to Steven's amazing solo stuff and recently Pineapple Thief who have embraced Gavin's incredible drumming and sound amazing for it.
yes, I am 60 too! Guitar player. First heard this song in a Warren Miller flick. 10 years ago I turned PT on to a 20 year old kid .Blew his mind! Me too!
Before we totally destroy this world how about a handful of Porcupine Tree \ Tool shows? Together, of course. Nothing having to do with new music (unless of course something IS released (Tool in 2014)). Just a few hours from each band with enough time between sets for the audience to recover from the last and prepare for the next. I'm going on 56 and have seen 'em both. I noticed on each occasion how the audience becomes one with the performers. I kinda like that.

This comments section might not be the place, but SW has such silky smooth hair!
I am 166 years old and have lost my ears, but I still love the resonance from this great tune.

Congratulações. I'm 65 now. I'm from Brazil.
Don't worry be happy dear❤
How are you getting on in there?
I love Colin. He always looks like a happy guy. The world needs more faces like his =)
Colin Erwin,is soi god dam underrated as a bassist, and he allways looked happy.. Stabled in the back, a personal view..
My friend took his life yesterday. He was a friend that I could not reach... I will miss him terribly. This special song now has extra meaning for me.
empathy...my best mate died from cancer 8 years ago and I miss him more than I could have ever have imangined. loss..gain..change..what a lesson for even less than? everything is a gesture..but this is as genuine as I can respond. keep loving keep listening
Loss... gain... change. What a great way to describe the process
So Sorry for your loss
Jeez. I’m sorry.
Sorry for your loss. Life can be bitter. Hope you find comfort in the music.
Gavin Harrison, currently one of Rock's Best Drummers! 💯
He is top 3 with Vinnie Colaiuta and Hellhammer \m/

Lost a friend three weeks ago by suicide. A sensitive and very intelligent man. I guess he must have felt very lonely.
@Vincent Lievense I hope 3 years on there is some kind of peace for you
Hope you are doing great man

Highly underrated band, They should be right up there, should regroup and start composing again!!!

I heard this very song live two days ago in Chicago!
63 and loving this. Rock on, PT!
Proof that greatness is not defined by how many records you sell...
What happens after 4:15 makes me smile like an excited little child :D PT and their rhythms :')

@@Ebidle mmm Chris Maitland is a good drummer too!
Blessed are the ones who saw porcupine tree live. I believe I'm not blessed enough. This band speaks beyond imaginations.
They are touring for the new album
Glad I saw them live at Nh7 Weekender. That's my biggest achievement till date!

Sooner or later you come in contact with PT Music if you like PF. How can a band be so awesome, seriously ;-)
About three months now thanks to a new friend, my wife says I'm obsessed. I just love great music. How have they passed me by for do long.

Simply the most ethereal, and soul stabbing song ever.
Porcupine Tree is freaking amazing
Steven Wilson has written a lot of great songs, but this is his best one, without question.
That same dvd release also included the best performance of "Hatesong" ever.
