I stayed at the same hotel as them when they were in Tampa in 2010. I was lucky enough to *chat* with Gavin Harrison & Richard Barbieri over coffee outside the hotel. They were down to earth and easy to talk to. They asked if the show was TOO loud last night and I told them YOUR MUSIC is NEVER loud enough!!!!!

I both love and abhor that most folk have never heard of Steven Wilson. I abhor because it tells us so much about what type of music and depth of that music reaches 'most' minds. I love because in a strange, egocentric way, I love the fact that relatively few of us have 'Steven to ourselves'. I know its nothing like that, but there's something juicy about being interested in something that's relatively unknown....

It really just does not get much better than this PERIOD! Gavin Harrison's ability to phrase in and out of odd meters is second to none, he has the magic feel of great funk drummers and applies it to progressive rock, there is just something about his timing that draws me in! He is simply one of the best in the biz! PT is one of those brilliant combinations, I really hope Steven Wilson keeps it going!

But I couldn't. I came here as a Gavin Harrison fan (I have a book+CD by him: genius and very insightful) - it is like a door opened to paradise. Gavin Harrison is pure perfection.

Barbieri is an absolutely key member of Porcupine Tree - he's a keyboard player so different to the prog masters I know and love (like Jordan Rudess) who are technically impressive - Barbieri may be that as well, but his focus is on texture, on creating atmosphere, layers of mist-like mood envelope the music and give it so much mood! A very effective musician.

Has a massive 40 foot room in his house. The room was built for building art sculptures. He treated it acoustically to remove the extra reverb. I wonder what it's like now.

Hey man I'm relatively new to PT and Gavin too and as a drummer I know what you mean, but IMO we should be inspired not defeated by what he does. Keep it up!

very different version than the studio. Enjoyable to see the guitar work instead of just hearing it.

que puedo decir...esta gran banda volvio a revivir el espiritu de esas grandes bandas del pasado...marillion,genesis,yes por nombrar algunas. Porcupine tiene el espiritu de la musica de verdad.

Do you want to compare Gavin with tool drummer? Steven with tool guitarists? Wesley with tool guitarists too? Collin Edwin a bass monster compared to tool one, and Barbieri one of the best keyboarder of prog music, you should check he solo work too.

Ricardo Pentest Danny Carey is clearly a better drummer than Gavin. Steven Wilson’s guitar skills against Adam Jones is debatable. Although Adam Jones has his own style. Stevens is a mish mash of several styles. And Justin Chancellor is a FARRRR superior bass player to whoever plays bass for this band. Also, Maynard James Keenan is one of rocks greatest vocalists. And the best vocalist of the 90’s. It’s pretty safe to say that Tool is better.
