The reason the Spinning Jenny was even needed, was because a chap called John Kay had developed the Flying shuttle. This had improved cloth production making it cheaper to produce woollen, Cotton, silk and Linen cloths. This caused the people who produced finished cloth to want more fibre. Wool production had gone up, likewise, Cotton, linen and Silk, but the bottle neck was the fibre made from the raw materials, this had not improved. The finished cloth manufacture could be driven by water wheels, but there was a shortage of Fibre (Fiber), enter our hero James Hargreaves😍🤣😂🤩
I couldn't help but think of the increased demand for cotton and the effects on slavery, and later exploitation of labor in the American south. Thanks from a first time viewer and new subscriber.
