That was absolutely lovely to sit and listen to. I've just bought this guitar, I now need to learn to play it. Really enjoyed your style of playing although I haven't a clue where to start to learn to play in this style. Inspirational.

Always the best reviews! Sounds closer to the original with these strings. Will probably sound even better with Authentics. Somewhere between dread and ooo. Wonder if they had to change the depth due to the bracing change.

Hi Jarvis. I was looking for a small body guitar like this one for traveling, sofa playing, etc. I researched guitars like this one online for about a year considering Mdjr, various GS Minis, Seagull, Sheehan S series. I had hoped to find that “Diamond in the Ruff”. I even owned the first generation Dread jr. The sound was good but didn’t like the overall feel and the craftsmanship looked sub par somehow. What I found through an obscure comment was an S&P Woodland Pro Folk. It’s all solid mahogany, quality spruce top, and the craftsmanship and finish is like guitars twice its price point. I LOVE this guitar so much. It’s incredibly beautiful too like a Collings C10 and the Huss and Dalton Crossroads. If you get a chance, find one of these. You might not want to ever put it down.

Am I right that Jarvis said that the first-generation D-Jr often develops a bulging top on the lower bout and that Martin changed the bracing and narrowed the width to prevent this problem?

I am definitely buying this guitar. Been jumping back between this and the Martin 000 Jr. However the sound of the DJr 10 is more rounded and I can hear each string. What strings would you recommend? I know how to play but haven’t in quite a few years…so I need something easy on my fingers. Just playing for myself here. Also heard from other players that the first thing they did was switch out the strings. Thanks for your awesome demo!

The original DJRE has the 'Signature Martin tone'. This one doesn't. Even though it might be easier to play because of the lighter guage strings.

Watching this back to back against the 1st gen review. Not sure if it’s the string gauge or difference in recording equipment but the warm tone/bass is almost completely dialed out on the the 2nd gen.

MARTIN DJR-10 or MARTIN DJR? I bought LX1RE one months ago, but it sounds a bit like ukulele, so i sent it back to the shop. DJR10 sounds brighter, but DJR sounds more like big guitar. I can´t decide, which one is better? What do you think? Thanks

I used to own a Taylor Big Baby and now I own a D-Jr 10, which has, at 70 with weaker arthritic hands, become my main guitar. There's no comparison between the tone of each. The Martin is bigger and much better. A more appropriate comparison would be with the GS Mini, which I also own. I have found that because of the D-Jr 10's superior tonal possibilities (to my ears anyway) I play it almost exclusively now.
