    Hello
    Should we buy this or the Evostar 80ed???

    At 0:45 you say that you also get the adapter for attaching a camera - did it come with the scope in the case?! I have recently bought an Evolux 82ED and didn't get one of these in the case (or at least I don't think I got one! I'll double check!). This would make life a lot easier in attaching my Canon R to the scope!

      I was sent this from Sky-Watcher to try and review. I wasn't informed as to what specific items came with the telescope so I had to do some research to help try and assist with your question. It would seem that the adapter your after comes with the reducer/flattener rather than the scope itself. If this is the case then I'm actually disappointed that the adapter doesn't come with the telescope and that you need to pay more money for the flattener.
      An alternative is to use a nose (eye piece) adapter then with adapters to reach 55mm back focus you could then connect the camera specific t-ring. Although the stars from corner to corner may not be perfect without the flattener/reducer.
      I hope this helps, I had thought the adapter came with the scope and the flattener/reducer was separate.
      Please keep me informed as to what you work out... thanks :)

      @@StevenMorrisPhotography Finally getting back to this to say thank you muchly for replying and for your help! I ended up buying not one but TWO things to get this all working! I bought the flattener + adapter combo (for those that might be reading and trying to work out the parts, it was this one: Sky-Watcher Evolux 0.9X Reducer Flattener for the 82ED Refractor). But of course, this doesn't come with a T-mount, so I had to buy that too (for my camera I needed this one: William Optics 48mm T mount for Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera). I patiently waited for Australia Post to deliver it while we had several clear nights. Then it arrived, and we had about two weeks of cloudy skies, aagh! Anyway, I've had a few clear night now, and it works like a charm. This is my first refractor, and I am really happy with it (but also have no basis for comparison). The only thing for people interested in this is to know that it comes bare bones, and you'll need to be buying extra bits n pieces to make it work for astrophotography. Thanks again for your help here, and clear skies! :)

    Hmm, so they have moved away from FPL53 and gone with the same glass that the 72ED has, which produces visible chromatic abberation. Seems like a corner cut?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography

      Honestly I’m not sure they wouldn’t say. I have used the 62ED briefly and that’s a brilliant little scope, I do hope to get that for a review and nights imaging session. I prefer the 62 over the 82 and considering the size of the 62 it did a really good job of covering my full frame Z7 but again I would like to test this more. I would like to get those scopes again and upload some raw files for everyone at some stage.

      Hello friend. I have the Evostar 72ED and I can say that in my photos there is no great signs of chromatic aberrations, a bit to be more exact.

    The irony of having the screw thread for the camera adapter but then having the sloppy rotator function - may as well just use the originaly brass compression ring and have a simple camera adaptor.

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  2 роки тому +1

      You are correct in saying that and I completely see where your coming from. The rotator is only sloppy when loose, once tight everything is nice and secure. What I can’t test is if there is any slight tilt from it that could cause bad stars. If this was a super expensive triplet designed refractor I would be gutted but as this is an entry level imaging refractor I believe it’s a great start. What do you think?

    I have a Skywatcher Esprit 100 ED, after the field flattener I use a M48 to Canon EOS adapter, then a EOS to Fujifilm X-Mount adapter followed by my Fujifilm X-E3 camera. There is no reason to work out the back focus, it just works. Also a Canon X2 teleconverter can be inserted between the two EOS adapters. I also have a ZWO to EOS adapter so this I can connect a ZWO camera to the EOS adapter on the telescope.
    After using this arrangement, I discovered that I could buy a William Optics M48 to Fujifilm X adapter.

    Hi Steven. Thank you the review. I recently bought the Evolux 80ed and the reducer for photography. I would like ask if I can I put my ZWO camera on the back of the reducer with a m48 to m42 adapter? Would that work? Thanks

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography

      It most certainly will work as long as you get the right adapter and back focus spacing 😊

      Sorry that should have read evolux 82ed! But I think you got that. 😊. That’s great and thank you for letting me know that it will work. I have an adapter on order now. I just need to find the right length of spacer for getting it in focus! Any ideas or is it a case of measuring it?

      @@jonathanhighman4453 Hey Jonathan, I hope you don't mind me responding - I've recently been trying to get this scope rigged up for AP too, so thought I'd share what I have! With the reducer+adapter, there isn't enough distance to get back focus - more spacing is needed - as you rightly point out. I needed to buy a new T-mount anyway (the existing one I had was m42), so I got the wide version (this one: William Optics 48mm T mount for Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera). It all works like a charm. All I need now is a ZWO EAF so I can get all the sparklies in focus! (except the EAF isn't listed as compatible with this scope, so that's a whole 'nother learning curve, trying to rig it up and make it work!). Clear skies to you :)

      @@MindfulAstro Hi Jane. Of course I don’t mind; it’s a lovely community and a sharing one at that! Very happy to be back in this hobby! Thanks for your reply. In the meantime I sorted out my image train and works a charm. I bought a M48 to M42 adaptor to fit on the reducer, screwed on to that is a M42 to 1.25” telescope adapter I got off eBay then the 1.25” nosepiece adapter goes into that (sticks out a small amount). Hope that makes sense. Easier to share a photo I guess! 😂
      Got a lovely image of Cocoon Nebula and M45 before the clouds moved in. Been doing planetary imaging with my other scope so given DSO a rest but will be going back as soon as the cloud and moon go away!!! 🤞

    Hi Steve, are you sure the knobs you show as the rotator is a rotator? It would be strange and I think it should be rather this big knob on top to rotate the camera.

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  2 роки тому

      Hey Slawek, I should have spoken about how to lock the focus tube in place which is done by the big knobs you see on the top and bottom of the scope. The smaller knobs are to rotate the camera.

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  2 роки тому +1

      Not a problem. I think it’s a great little grab and go based scope with great imaging capabilities that’s for sure but it is to a budget and I agree the rotator could do with a tweak but it’s still an option of it being there for framing. When it’s all locked in it’s solid.

    I have a Lunt 72mm ED, a nice scope visually, but doing EAA, I will get CA and blue stars, but works, and not a real issue doing EAA astronomy as your interest is just almost live viewing. The Lunt is a doublet ED.
    Its f6.3 and Lunt are known for quailty scopes. Unfortunately I got a lemon. Screws were missing, focus know screws loose, and worse the objective was miles off. Lunt were very good, sent missing screws, and sent the objective to them and for nothing collimated the objective.
    So now an amazing scope, collimation is extremely good and pin point stars, amazing optical quailty.

      @Steven Morris yeah thats why they put it right, they have good name and reputation, did not have to send the whole scope back, just objective and cell. They did such a great job of collimation of the lens, perfect in a star test, very good objective lens

      @@StevenMorrisPhotography - how much Evolux 82 weight with accesories? 3 kg ? Will be a good fit to SW SA GTI mount? Especially for AP use? Or it's too heavy and I should take SW 72 ED (is it really 0,5 kg lighter with accesories?)?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography

      I feel like you can get away with it however you’d have to be mindful or the weight limit and windy conditions. Making sure it’s balanced when hitting mount payload capacity is making sure the system is balanced. It helps take the load off the mount.
