I have my grandfather's old cub. I think it is a '48 model. Wish I had that manure spreader and little loader tractor! I'm going to fix it up, but before the magneto gears stripped off, that tractor ran like a sewing machine. No choke. No battery, crank start only. It never took more than a couple of cranks. When we lived in town, I took my kids to the park through side streets.
Dad said he had a model A doodlebug he made with two transmissions in it back to back. He would put it in low gear, then jump in the trailer and spread manure with a shovel
If you can pull it faster, it flings better, but it’s a load on a Cub (even though the spreader was designed for one). My fiends are rough too and that’s not helpful. Thank You for watching
I'm buying a 1 owner 48 cub with 2 attachments model 193 field plow, and 1 row field cultivator no hyd lift but comes with draw bar left side mechanical lift handle & right side plow depth handle / Getting a good deal I think , I thing I was going to mention ir also comes with the reipt from feb. 13. 1948 says $818.00 think that icludes the 2 attachments in the price not sure. so at around 1400 or 1500 dollars I'm not paying that much mor than it was new. Because i've seen the moldoard plows go for 250 and the cultivator must be worth couple hundred now back to your video
I guess I didn’t realize until this video that the Cub pto spins opposite of modern tractors which seems odd but at the same time makes sense to me because some friends of mine had a farm years ago and they had one of those Cubs(I don’t have any idea what year the Cub was) and all they ever used the pto for was running the bale elevator for bringing hay bales up into the hay loft. Then they used all the other tractors for spreading manure, cutting and baling hay etc… Excellent little tractors though. I’ve always wanted to get one even though I don’t have much property to use it on.
They’re a cute little tractor with a lot of parts availability. I’ve heard of PTO converters that change the direction, but have never seen one. I have seen an adapter that goes to a modern 7-spline, but it still runs backwards. Thank You for watching
there are several brands out there, but for a tractor to be comparable today, you'd want something right around 25 HP with 24' rear rims for ag tires. I also recommend you find one that has adjustable rims on the back so you can increase width. if you are only looking for a cultivating/produce tractor, there is Tuff-Bilt which is the modern version of the Allis Model G. It is important that whatever you buy has good dealer support and is comfortable to sit on. Kubota, John Deere, Case-New Holland, Kioti and Massey Ferguson would be highest on my list to consider. good luck!
Wow, that’s a great little spreader. Was this a model designed for the Cub and/A? That would be ideal for our small farm and little Massey 1526. Looks fun with the Cub 👍
It holds 40 bushels and you can adjust the apron chain speed. I can usually haul, spread, and return to the pile in less than 15 minutes. I’d guess it takes less than 5 minutes to unload it. The spreader works better on a bigger tractor than aCub. I often use the international 140

That is a good piece of kit, 70 yrs later still very useful!

Love your Farmalls. We have a few too
Thank you
I remember when my granddaddy done that with a trailer and a shovel. He also picked the corn by hand using the same trailer.

@@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors Yeah those guys were not afraid of work, granddaddy kept at something all day long.
Thanks for posting, I enjoyed this video! Seems to drop a heavier layer right behind the path of the cart, but I guess that is to be expected!

Wow, how did you learn all this stuff? Thank you for keeping our American farming heritage alive. Very interesting.
I read a lot and I read tractor technical manuals for fun😂
Good video. Thanks for sharing.

Great video.

What is a good modern loader tractor to compliment a cub. I know hp will be rated differently. But what is comparable size wise and tire size wise.

Yes it was, but it works best behind an A or bigger. Many people refer to it as a Cub Spreader
I have a cub myself, The generator was always broken so I had to crank start it
I love them. Thank You for watching 😊
That spreader is the ONLY implement that IH would not stand behind
lol!
Is the little glass bottle on the air intake suposed to have some oil in it?
No. The oil goes in the cup at the bottom where it attached to the block
@@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors Thanks for the info, But whats the glass for at the intake?
@@jimputnam2044 it’s a sediment bowl

Do you have an estimate of how fast this spreader empties or how much distance it takes to empty? Thanks!

I've got the same manure spreader I pull with a super a
Agreed. It pulls better with my brother’s 140. It’s heavy on a Cub. Thank You for watching
What color blue is that on your cub?really enjoy your channel..! Thanks.
IH blue. You can get it from Ace Hardware. Rust-oleum Navy blue is close. Thank You for watching
mine is a 49 i am wanting to put a seat like yours on mine
They’re around. Keep shopping and you’ll find one for a reasonable price.
