Never underestimate the working of the Lord in very young children. I've loved the old hymns since I was 4 years old. And they continue to bless me many decades later. Full of the Word. Unlike most of the repetitive choruses if today.
Amen to children understanding old hymns...especially when they are a regular part of Sunday service. Hymns were all I grew up with and have always held a deep love of mine. No new age "music".
Your channel showed up on my phone a few minutes ago for the first time. Thank you, Luke, for the wonderful way you introduce this beautiful hymn. I appreciate you provide all 9 verses, giving the chance to follow the composer's train of thoughts as a whole. It is thrilling to praise the Lord for a good length of time with just one hymn that praises Him so well. Now there is no lack of words to praise Him for the great things He has done. I am subscribing to your channel for many more edifying ways to praise and worship the Lord. I am doublely thankful that you are singing ALL nine verses according to the melody as written. Praise God. Many blessings to you and yours.
Thank you for sharing all the verses. The one that so spoke to my heart was "It tells of One whose loving heart can feel my deepest woe, who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below". How true it is. My precious husband went home to be with the Lord last year. I am so thankful for friends and family, yet none can understand, comfort and minister as my dear Lord and Savior does.
This song is precious to me, because as a little child growing up in an unbelieving home, I would visit my grandmother, whom we called Nanny, and she would sing it to us. I remember her coming through her back door singing out “Tell me, Cathie do you love Jesus“ I would reply “Oh yes, I love Jesus“ and off we would go singing the entire song together. That was many years ago now, but I still think of it fondly, and how she was my introduction to the things of the Lord.
Thanks for sharing all the verses. I am going to learn and sing the ones I havent heard before😊 ... to listen to the still Voice to trust Him... and the fragrance of His Name on my rugged road ...which sweetens my thorny path! Beautiful words...strong encouragement. Thank you precious Lord for our rich inheritance😊
Thru a dark time in my life God used this song to minister his love to me in1969 I was driving on Petersburg pike in Chester,VA a gospel group was singing this song powerfully on the radio the words and the Holy Spirit rested upon my mind as I began singing along with the singers.Instantly there was a presence of love and peace and I was engulfed with a mighty love as I had never experienced before.Instantly I prayed and told God that I was sorry for my sinful life. This was the beginning of the wonderful change that took place in me.God is love and I found his love thru this wonderful song.
My grandfather was one of the historic missionaries of the evangelical churches in Argentina. He arrived here in 1927 and founded a church in the town of Henderson in 1929. He pastored it until his death in 1939. The last song he sang on his deathbed shortly before he went to be with the Lord was this hymn. As people gather around his bed they were amazed when he began to sing Oh, how I love Jesus. His name was Pastor Fred Clements
My favorite verse is, "whose heart❤ can feel my deepest woe...who in each sorrow bears a part that none (no other) can bear below"...what a joy to learn of the "other" verse that talks about the "still, small voice" that tells me not to fear! In these past 10 years, I have lost so many of my loved ones through 4 types of loss: death, divorce, disease and distance....but Immanuel has never left my side, giving me hope for the future and providing new relationships. Oh, How I LOVE JESUS❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂

Beautiful just beautiful. I'm blessed. Thank you and God bless you. It's 4am and I couldn't sleep. I just came across this video. Thrilled to find out that you've done this on other hymns too. Looking forward to relishing them all. Thanks again.
Thank you for this song I remember only knowing and singing the chorus did not know the rest of the lyrics thank you very much for singing and sharing the lyrics. We Thank God for his children Who inspired by Holy Spirit has written this beautiful song with so much a depth . Thank you for singing for us
Dear brother in Christ, there is something so wonderful about the way you explain the songs...it helps us to enjoy and savour each hymn. I remember singing this hymn in my childhood. In the same tune of this chorus we used to sing the words, "To me He is wonderful (3) To know that Jesus is mine". So a few of us would sing Oh how I love Jesus and the others, To me He's wonderful......this way we used to enjoy this song.....thank you for sharing all the 9 stanzas....May God bless your unique ministry.
Your performance of this is heartfelt and moving. I can’t sing worth shucks, but I love to pick hymns on my ukulele and noodle around on it. So I played with you. Blessings to you today. Thank you.
I love the song. It’s one of the songs I have given to be sang at my funeral along with “Everyday with Jesus”. Thank you for sharing the background of these beautiful hymns.
Hi Luke. Once again thanks for all the " homework" you do do compile these programs. I enjoy these old hyms and have grown up in church and at home with various "artists" or gospel singers playing on old time record turntables. Later tape casettes then came CD s. Now all is found on a little pocket computer. The cellphone. I really enjoy this program. Shalom.
I love CHRIST JESUS HE LOVED me so to do THE FATHERSFATHER'S WILL there at Gesthemane, the prerequisite of the death on a cross for fallen me that was undone due to heritage of Eve doubting THE FATHER in Eden. Now HE has revealed THE GREAT MYSTERY OF HIS LOVE to me. How i love HIM!🎹
And when Christmas comes around. Hark the Herald angels sings had SUCH profound and riveting lyrics... People don't hear then. Is love for you to shine a light on the carol
I am so excited to find this video. I live daily singing hymns they keep me going. What about this one? The Love of God V3 Could we with ink the ocean fill And were the skies of parchment made We’re every stalk on earth a quill And every man a scribe by trade , To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky. What beautiful words.
I never knew that the chorus of this song was an independent refrain that was sometimes used in other hymns as well. That is actually my favorite part of this hymn; I remember singing it so often as a child.
I have worked in the nursing home MANY years holding church service! We have ALWAYS used the OLD HYMN BOOKS and sung the OLD SONGS! Because most of the folks sang such hymns as children even alzhiemer patients sang them with such delight! One easter season a "seven eleven" church visited the home on another day of the week, and I over heard one ask the others "I did not know ANY of their songs, did you?" And they all agreeed they did not!!!
I think the long Ohooooo how i love Jesus. is so soulful and I think that's the hook along with other long soulful moments in the song that makes it so enjoyable to sing. The hymn reflects humanity's yearning for a personal connection with the divine, expressing an outpouring of deep love toward Jesus that stems from our innate spiritual longing. The direct expression of love represents our desire for reciprocated love and eternal communion with God. The universality and endurance of its message over generations suggests an innate metaphysical dimension to human consciousness.
I love what you have done. I thank you so much for you sharing this lovely and wonderful story. I never knew there were 9 verses of this beautiful song. O how I love JESUS.
We used to sing it all the time but other than the first verse the others don't sound quite right, so I suspect words were changed to suit the singers or the church theology. It is one I often sing to myself but only the first verse & chorus as I can remember the rest of it as it was so long ago. I will have to see if I still have one of the old hymnals in my book cupboard.
Thank you, brother. This was such a blessing. I have many many memories of singing and learning the sign language to this song when I was a child. To get to hear all the verses has been such a blessing and it's message has been very encouraging. The lines that were precious to me were "It tells me of a Father's smile beaming upon His child" and shows the deep affection Father God feels for his children. I really enjoyed getting to sing this song again. Thank you again and God Bless.
I went to a presbyterian church sponsored school in the 70s and we loved to sing these songs in the students christian union services. They are wonderful and remain a blessing to me whenever I sing them. Their poetic setup and the rich biblical background remain alive and very powerful today. Glory be to God forever. Amen.
This song brings up so much emotion for me from my youth. I heard it today in church and it struck a nerve as I have recently recommited my heart to Jesus and God. So it made me happy to hear this today and I enjoyed the history and explanation of it.Thank you for your video.
Well Brother Luke, that was so uplifting. It was just what I needed today. Thank you for your encouraging and inspiring channel.I was always curious of how these lovely old hymns came to be.Nothing can compare to them even though there are many modern and beautiful praise and worship songs. Bless you and your ministry dear friend. Hugs and Christian love from British Columbia Canada.

I love Jesus more than anything else in this world because He loved me first and He died for my sins. I will live for Him all my life. Hallelujah.
It's all about Jesus, this song says it all❤
Because He first loves me❤
Love your voice and the explanation you give for each song.. May the Lord bless your blessed ministry.
I love the mosiac cross in the background. That's awesome. "His precious blood, our perfect plea!"

Hearing one of my piano students play this hymn gave me one of my first witnesses of my Savior. I love it so much!
We know there are hymns for children are simpler those for adults. But children will also remember the hymns sung in adult church service.
