- This BMW E46 330i is an excellent example of marital compromise
The E46 generation of BMW 3 Series is fast moving into modern classic status. And, as Vicky Parrot explains in this video, it's also an excellent example of marital compromise.

CarGurus UK resident EV expert Vicky Parrott also happens to love powerful petrol engines and convertibles - which explains why she now has both a R129 Mercedes SL and an E46 BMW 330i Convertible in her household.
In this CarGurus UK review, Vicky tells the story of how the BMW was added to the collection, as well as looking at the car's pros and cons. Will its fabulous straight-six engine and drop-top thrills outweigh concerns about running costs and reliability? Only time will tell...

A great video Vicky. Sharing your husbands E46. These are already a classic in my book a few years before later models with some rather odd looks appeared on the scene. Sharing your car warts and all along with the good and things to watch out for is why I watch the reviews. This also applies to new car reviews of course. Thanks for sharing.
These is absolutely the content we all want to see, motoring journalists buying modern classics and unnecessary projects. More of this please!
This and it's bigger E39 cousin were peak BMW for me. Loved the coupe version of this and this engine is definitely the pick of the bunch. You certainly have a couple of classics between you!
My sentiments exactly. Sounds wonderful too
There are a few rules for buying a car, the one I regret ignoring is . If you tick that box then when something blows up it doesn't feel such a drag to pay for the fix.
Hugely better than any BMW made today .
Couldn't agree with you more. I personally would rather have a Honda accord of a similar vintage but each to there own.
I agree. The best car I've ever owned from new was a 330Ci convertible, in dark green and cream interior.
Great feature. Thank you! More on this and the SL please!!
Its amazing that this same car (a quick search on a nation wide car sale website) here in Australia is $11k aud / 6500 gbp.
The centre console is coated with a rubber material which scratches easily as in your car. It can be taken off and the plastic underneath cleaned and shined.
I had a 2005 330i Ci Special Edition 6 speed manual in Midnight Blue with tan Nappa leather. That was a lovely car and one I should have kept.
I own a e46 316 saloon. Not much pep, but I love how it drives. BMW certainly knew how to build an amazing car back then.
Fantastic review.
Your LCI module is faulty (light switch) which is causing the indicator issue.
Have you got a tamper dot next to the mileage? If you change it you have to code the new one as it records the mileage. You need to make sure it's the correct one as there's loads of them.
I had a 330 sport convertible for 5 years and now have an M3 convertible. The good thing is a lot of the common problems are really easy to DIY. On that 330 you'll wanna look at the cooling system if it's original. Rads bow, expansion tanks crack, thermostats stick. It's half a days work, get the parts for ECP not BMW. Before replacing your discs check the front control arm rear bushes. If it "donks" when you slow to a stop then they're work and could cause the judder too.
PS, all the rear axle carrier panels are cracked. You can normally only see it once thr rear subframe is off the car and it's cleaned up though.
We had the same issue with the indicators being erratic. The solution was to replace the LCZ (light control module)
How much was that?
@@XxavierPolk It was about R3500 (South Africa) to replace with a 2nd hand one. Maybe 200 pounds?
Love your review.
No complaints from here. Great buy.
Thank you, I really enjoy this kind of videos…
Do like this model of 3 Series but do prefer the facelift version where they changed the headlights. I had a 2005 320CI, was a fantastic car. Would be seriously tempted by a 330 cabriolet as a fun thing for the weekends. Even the age they are, they still look amazing.
Spot on, own one and now going to get a makeover for my classic and headlight change & spoiler (small one) is 1st on the list. Also rhe stereo system is old so that's the next one. Glad I found ure comment so guess am on right track 😅
I have a 2006 330ci auto, have to agree it’s a great car, I’ve done alot of work on the cooling system I.e replaced everything lol removed that awful vicious fan and replaced it with an electric one. Oh and yeh they do like to warp front discs for some strange reason.
E46 320d was my first luxury car what a great car
Been looking for one recently, can't wait to be back in an e46!
I just bought a really good one. A silvery grey 325ci convertible 2004 with FSH and only 89k miles ..
Brilliant cars had mine 6 years 2002 96000 miles never let me down. Got to go up in price in a few years time . Very strong 3 ltr engine one of the best BMW Engines made.
Thanks for sharing
a hard top really stiffens up the convertibles. my 323ci vert feels as solid as my 318 or 330 coupe with the hard top on
Best car cabrio for summer 2000s
I suppose for £2000 you can't go too far wrong... Lots of sign of age and wear though..
I wouldn't say 'keyed'.. Mindless vandalism is a better term...
This a good video. Well played.
Great review, some ideas on a budget... what is the VED per year?
Looks like a great buy. Does your kid prefer this or your Mercedes?
This or a saab 9-3 aero vert ?
Brilliant video
Illluil
Love these❤
I've been wanting to get a sedan version in a manual of this car for a while but they have gone up in price already. I missed out.
You can always Manual swap it 😉
I have a 325i I just manual swapped and in the middle of putting a 330 motor in it
I owned two e46.
330cd and 320cd 😁
Red and Blue
I have an R129, a 1994 280SL. I bought a 2012 320d for my son to use to get to and from college. But, he seems to be becoming an old car nut like me and bought a 2004 E46 320i coupe that he could learn how to fix up. He loves it, but lordy, does that E90 move. It's much cheaper to run also. Personally I prefer the E90
Good all rounder cars for the money!
right drive cars are far cheaper comapre to left drive, in Italy, for example, a 330ci m sport (if you can find one), will costs around 20k€.. In all way this car is definelty considered an icon..
Love my e46 325i auto sport in black . Can you please help me find a new home . For her please 🙏
The headlights are aftermarket maybe thats the cause
I thought I'd refresh my 2001 320Ci when I got it, buying LED bulbs for the number plate, and indicator, etc. They weren't cheap ones and were designed to avoid quick flashing and canbus errors. It seems that the E46 is very sensitive to anything other than good quality filament bulbs. The LED's did all kinds of odd things so I'm now back on tried and tested filament bulbs. Also, they scratched panels around the central console can be tidied up really well by using nail varnish remover and some patience. It removes the soft touch coating and takes it back to a lightly textured plastic finish instead, which doesn't scratch or mark every time you catch it
Looks like a great car but would look even better with new plates on it
Lost in translation: what do you mean by “stupid old German car “ in reference to the the R129 😅?
I have a 2013 750i BMW twin turbo the motor is blown a friend of mine have a 2017 650i BMW twin turbo that was crashed so I bought that motor from him will it fit in my 2013 750i twin turbo motor looks the same accessories looks a little bit different will it be okay to swap out the accessories as far as the turbos and all accessories that's that's on my engine do you think it will work please let me know my name is Rodger I work from home I do also work in a lot of BMW's but never did one like this before So Help 2:24 me with this one please let me know as soon as possible
is it better than e90 fun to drive?
If anyone is interested in doing a review on my 330ci, convertible let me know. Thanks
These are going to be worth a fortune in the future. But shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone.
‘Keyed’….. just about the worst kind of selfish vandalism….
I have not much love for this generation 3-series. E30 or E90 for me.
I appreciate the fact that a married couple each drive a convertible is a country where it rains even more than here, a bit to the east.
Thumbs up!
E46 is way better than the E90
This is great value for 2000 pounds
Bro I’m gonna pay 13k next week they ain’t that cheap everywhere
I just bought a 325 ci convertible with only 89 k and fsh.. Love it ! Sadly I can keep it too long as I plan to move abroad later in the year
ive just bought a 330ci club sport not much in it against my ex wifes M3 , same top speed 155 and 0 to 60 is 2 seconds difference .And what i like about this video is she can drive . I cant stand these young girls that do these vids and you can tell they drive a fiat punto but there trying to do an M3 IT LOOKS SO WRONG .They look scared .
i have n m3 i hate it i want £3000 for it
Maybe not take so much of people's time explaining why you don't need another car. Its wasting time hearing yourself.
How does it feel.
😂
There are WAY more issues with these cars than anyone gives credit for. I've got a 325xi 5 speed that has had $20k in repairs over the last 3 years. I've put an additional $4k into it in the last month. Cooling systems, electrical, weird smells from the vile noise deadening, soft touch plastics that have turned to sticky goo, plastics in the pillars/dash that are disturbingly brittle, and a massive number of late 90s computers. Fun to drive, but absolutely brittle cars.
I've got a 23 year old E46 that I've had for 9 years and I've had no problems other than the usual wear and tear stuff.
No there isnt mine has been a tank
Any car will be like this if you buy an abused or neglected example.
