My mom was good friends with the girl he was talking about Peggy Rullo. Kelly Slater also reached out to our family after my dad, Rockin Fig, passed away recently. Kelly is a real down to earth guy and amazing person. Great interview Ariel!
Yeah, I’ve surfed and chatted with him many times. Given the immensity of his talents he’s incredibly humble and approachable. Dane and JJF are also both incredibly chill and humble humans.
I'm a 57 year-old man and if you just watched that interview you can understand why Kelly Slater has been one of my biggest heroes for a long, long time. He has won 11 World Championships as a surfer, but deserves many more as a human being. He is intelligent, thoughtful, empathetic, interesting, interested, caring, and encourages people to question everything they are being told (& sold). Kelly is one authentic, world-class human being, the real deal.

Kelly Slater is not only the best surfer of all time, but he is and always has been a class act and 1 Hell of a role model, Kelly yo don’t no me but I have been blessed to be in the line up with you on the North Shore God Bless you Kelly your a great man.
BRILLIANT @KELLYSLATER. Thx @Arielhelwani for the great interview mate. I've followed Kelly for 31yrs and will always look up to him. What a kind, respectful earth loving person!
What a word class elite athlete. Most importantly what a very humble guy. Me and my surfing friends use to see kelly at times getting interviewed beachside at the end of 13th street In cocoa in the 80’s as a teenager. He was most everyone’s surfing idol back then and now. They named a street after him there(slater way) and a nice bronze statue of him off of A1A downtown cocoa beach. He still visits cocoa regularly as his family still lives there. Always makes time for a photo when spotted getting a sandwich from Publix or when he shows up in town. Unbelievable humanitarian. Thank you kelly for being such an inspiration to me and others!
Absolute legendary stuff. Thank you for doing this its not often Kelly can get such a long form interview like this done and he is a man who will be remembered in history for hundreds of years.
Kelly Slater the greatest sportsman to ever live. The youngest ever world champion. Dominate early in his career, retire, then return and win more world titles against a new generation becoming the oldest world Champion. No other sportsman has replicated what Kelly has achieved and still competing at the elite level at 49. The Sporting Goat 🏄♂️🥇🏆
Bill and I are in our 70's and had the outstanding opportunity to watch Kelly actually surfing Hawaii when he first went on tour. We lived on the North Shore and sat in awe watching that boy. Well decades later...we are still surfing and so is he! We are as glued to watching him now as we were then sitting at the very same break with him...watching at a distance. Being from Florida ourselves and having spent our adult life working/surfing on the No Shore we appreciated Kelly's wave savey. When you read his autobiography you learn what goes on a bit in his head....the head of a determined champion. Now we look on in admiration at him for maintaining his health and youthful vigor. As we were in our own prime, we are now in our retirement enormous fans of this man ! He shows us what's possible in surfing and as well in life. What a super human being ! Alison and Bill Brundage, retired in the Rep of Panama...still surfing !
Watched the whole thing. Thanks for an entertaining interview guys. Dave Mirra, Tony Hawk and Kelly Slater were the guys growing up cus they all had video games 🎮
What an amazing interview! I noticed Kelly was from another planet when I saw him ripping first peak at Sebastian Inlet. He was 12 years old and killing everyone by a long shot!
Wooow, great Ariel! I’m a huge fan of both sports and it was a great surprise that you mixed a little bit both worlds by having the legend on the show. Great and refreshing interview!
I’m new to this channel and want to say to Ariel Kelly Slater was so generous and humble and authentic and it resonated so much through your excellent ability to listen. I’m 59 year older used to surf every day for 35+ years then walked away. I’ve followed Mr Slater since he was a kid and he truly elevated your platform and that’s a credit to you. Well done
This interview made my morning! Thank you Ariel! Thank you Kelly! Somehow I knew Kelly would be against the forced inoculation. I REALLY appreciate this!
So glad I watched this. I'm planning to film the WSL Pipeline event jan 28-feb 10th. I wasn't going to go if Kelly would have said he's retiring. I'm soooooo stoked to film him at Pipeline. Dream come true. I'm a year or two older and used to skate vert ramp and pools back in the day, so Kelly is well known in the skateboard world as well. Great interview Ariel. Nice questions and remarkable insight on breaking thru barriers by Kelly. He always seems to take it to the next level even by being so down to earth. Incredible guy.
Loved this interview... Thank you 🙏 All I wanted to do when I grew up was win National Titles... And have posters and ads... 22 National Titles... 23 State Titles later... 1000's of ads... Because of that dude. Kelly has been a influencer to millions for decades... PMA positive mental attitude...
I’ve surfed several times in my life and never got into it. Despite that, Kelly Slater is the absolute legend and inspires me in all areas of my life ❤
I grew up in the 80s and 90s as well, im the same age as you Ariel, and you conducted this interview just as good as you do your mma interviews. And i try to watch the way you interview people and get inspired by it, because i interview people on my podcast, im sure you come up with questions before the interview, but you make it look seamless. Great Interview. Thank You
I’ve been a big fan of Kelly and been watching his interviews and you’ve nailed it Ariel, the right answers and right time allowed.. strange that it comes from a MMA channel but for any K slater fan this is 🔥🔥🔥. Well done
Yo Ariel, great interview!! I appreciate you not only sticking to MMA. I see that people open up to you in other ways that makes is feel that its a legit conversation. Great Job!
Great work! Kelly has been an inspiration to many. Have heard Kelly talk many times in the past and learnt new things during the interview. Congratulations on a great interview. 👍
What a champion at life and amazing athlete and human - pushing the envelope at 50 years old doing 720s still at 50 off waves - INCREDIBLE!!!! 🙌🏻 great interview
Kelly is the 🐐 no doubt. Not only for his surfing throughout the decades but out of the water endeavors like his awesome sustainable clothing line Outerknown and the surf ranch wave pool in Lemore. Not only an ambassador to the sport but an ambassador to the world. The Michael Jordan comparisons are valid. Extraordinary human being and life that he's lived...and not even close to being done.
I am not surprised about this cross over interview. In both sports you are basically on your own competing against another individual. Both sports pose real dangers to your health and it takes courage to do either of them (on that level).
Ariel, thanks for the show, just 1 recommendation please, can you record in 4k or at the very least 1080p. Watching in 720p on a modern large TV is very difficult. Thanks mate.
Watched the whole thing, very interesting interview with great flow and energy. Kelly get your boat and sail around Australia, hit all those little surf spots and bypass all this vaccine crap. Maybe anchor your boat off Bells beach..... say mid April 😁
A question i never hear asked is what is Kelly's relationship with his home town of Cocoa Beach? The town is very proud of him. Does he still have family there does he ever go back?
