The George VI stamps are from 1937 to 1952 so the lathe could well date from around then....it is a sweet little thing! I just did a web search for IME Lathes....they made some very nice kit. You really have had a bit of luck with that purchase, well done Paul. Hope to see it in action soon Dave
Hi Dave, That is really interesting about the stamps... It all adds to the interest regarding the history of the lathe and it's owner. There are some nice IME lathes, they also made a drilling machine which is very cool. I will get it going and show you all. Take care Paul,,
My little watchmakers lathe has the original motor and I can say that a sewing machine would work perfectly. Oddly enough I purchased a sewing machine at a thrift store for 4 dollars. Simply because it was extremely well built, heavy duty and I was impressed with the quality. I did not recognize the maker however a viewer informed me it was a British company. 🇬🇧. Very old, very good.😁
Hello James, The sawing machine motors do seem to work well... I have picked up a few motors of various descriptions, all of which need some work - haha. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Cliff, Thanks for visiting and subscribing... I think I will have some fun once I get it up and running... once I had my vaccine jab I should get more stuff done... Thanks again for visiting and take care Paul,,
Well Paul, what to say? A man can have too many lathes you know! I think the Knackler's financial controller, went to a different college to Jon's Workshop's one...... I had a hard time making the Cap-ex justification for the Harrison! Thing of beauty! Can't wait to see 3mm cut in tool steel on it. Cheers, Jon

Hi Paul how these two missed your wonderful share here is beyond us but here we are like a year later. The cost is always in the tooling as the lathe bed head and tail stock seem easy enough the costs are insane for most all the rest. We love the lathe (really nice) and most of all wish we had that style of mounting leg great find sir. Great as well you have the box the wooden boxes are all of our thoughts right now in our own shop now that we know how to refurbish them. Oh come now make something with her. Lance & Patrick.
Hello Gentlemen, Thanks for visiting... Yes the IME lathe is really nice and I will get it going once I have finished the the Unimat SL lathe... That is a lovely looking machine and it would be great to see it in action. We have started to think about a smaller lathe as our Colchester Master is too big for some jobs. Thanks for sharing and take care

Cool lathe! Really lovely and in good condition. Would love to see it in action. Until I find a person willing to repair my original unimat motor - I bought a "standard sewing machine motor" from ebay - inexpensive, works great, small and compact. I suggest you consider such a motor for this lathe.
Hi Paul, I am very keen to to have tools that can be shared between machines so that I can reduce the quantity of tools and hopefully improve the quality. Thanks for watching. Paul,,
Thats a great little lathe. I havent heard of IME but its quality looks to be as good as any Boley lathe which run into hundreds of pounds. And as you said, youve got the benefit of the extra collets too
Hi Johnny, I think most people desire the Boley and lathes like the IME do get overlooked... I know nothing really about watch and clock making so don't actually know what's good or bad but the collets will help with the Unimat. Take care Paul,,
Hello George, Thank you for watching the video and taking the time to comment... The Unimat SL watchmaking spindles are quite expensive if you can find one. They use the standard 8mm WW collet, which again are quite expensive although readily available. Take care. Paul,,

What a great lil machine. What got you interested in mini lathes? Actually that might make for an interesting video in its self if it's a long enough story
Hi Craig, The main reason is limitation of space... The Unimat I had under estimated how small it was... The Myford I did get the long bed, which has given me slightly more capacity and should be fine to relearn how to turn on. The IME... It looked cool, it had the collets and was a good price. Hello Ronald, Many thanks for dropping by, its good to hear from another IME owner. My one uses ww 8mm collets... You can purchase a complete set of collets from Sherline for around £1,000 and there are some cheaper options from some of the offshore suppliers but I am not sure of there accuracy. I feel that maybe a fairly accurate offshore option would be the same as a 60 year old used collet. I guess it depends on your budget and the level of accuracy you need. Hopefully see you again. Take care. Paul,,
@@TheKnacklersWorkshop Thanks Paul, following your info, i also purchased the chuck adapter from RDG Tools and an Emco SL Lathe chuck which fits beautifully and allows me to work with larger stock. I would prefer to work with collets though so will look out for sherline ones. Thanks again
Beautiful example I must say, I've been looking at watchmakers lathes and the prices seem exorbitant. I did see one of these for just under 275 but very few collet's, which you seem to have a lot of, that's quite a bit of money in itself. Not sure if IME supplied a cross slide with it, that's the only thing that might be useful, that and a milling attachment.
Hello Chris, Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment... The IME is a nice looking lathe and as I mentioned in the video the purchase was really for the collets... I have not found a good source of WW 8mm collects at an reasonable price for the hobbyist. Take care. Paul,,
