There's an Olympic oval in my home state of Wisconsin in West Allis where I grew up. I ran there a few times. It's similar to the Utah Olympic oval but only has 2 running lanes that go all the way around. The front straight has a couple more as I recall. I haven't been there in a while as I live about 250 miles away now.
The ice makes it cool and just humid enough to be comfortable for indoor track meets. Other indoor facilities are so dry that you get a bit of a cough after a hard distance effort. I also enjoyed the speed skaters doing their laps at the same time. It creates an “elite” environment. That’s great that you were able to run at that Wisconsin facility. I’m grateful that the Utah organizers had the foresight to add four lanes all around and 6 lanes on the straightaway.
