    I grew up 2 hours west of NOLA I was 14 that year. My dad never missed a Saints game unless it was on cable no access on the farm back then. We picked all games every week and he wrote every score of every game and division standings win percentage, he hated figuring out tie percentage. I moved to Atlanta September of 09. I flew down for the Superbowl to watch it with him. He passed in 11. I can just imagine his reactions for this game. The deflected pass Tice and Bobby caught. The penalty on Denver in the end zone, and getting the final scores and writing them down.
    Thanks for taking the time to post the game.

    Liked those uniforms that the Broncos used to wear before 1997 much better than what they've been wearing for the last 22 years

      Totally agree. I cannot stand navy blue.
      I wish the Eagles would go back to the true green instead of that crappy metallic, green ish blue crap they have now.

    Eric Martin: one of the best and most reliable receivers who is an unknown to many fans....even BACK THEN. Definitely one of the most reliable receivers in the NFL back then, an ol’ skool guy like Fred Biletnikoff and Charlie Joiner. Not the fastest, not the biggest, but one of the smartest and a precise route-runner. And don’t even let me get started on Mel Gray! One of the best return men EVER! And he did it well for a LOOOOONNNNGGG time!!

    The Saints had some super bowl caliber teams in the late 80s and early 90s. The 49ers were the only team stopping them from dominating the NFC. If it wasn't for some bad luck and perhaps a little more speed at the wide receiver position, they definitely would have won a super bowl during this era. The defense was unbelievably good. Hebert was underrated. The O line, running backs and tight ends were solid. Eric Martin was a great. They just needed maybe one more weapon at wide receiver.

    • @tonyarceneaux286
      @tonyarceneaux286 2 роки тому +1

      I say moderate offense for the Saints because they needed a second wide receiver to go with Eric Martin.

    The Dome patrol vs Elway and the Broncos. 27:37 look at those names, all four linebackers made the pro bowl in 1992.

    Saints fan perspective needed here :) This wasn't a playoff year for the Saints; lost three of the last four and lost a three-way tiebreaker in the division. But it was perhaps Mora's brightest-shining moment. The running game and special teams were still complementing the Dome Patrol defense. For 23 years, it was the largest margin of victory in team history, until a 55-point win over the Colts in 2011.

    • @blakfloyd
      @blakfloyd 6 років тому

      Still our largest shutout at least as far as I know. The 41-0 win over the Bucs a few years ago came close though. The 2011 Colts game was swell though. Might be the only time in NFL history that a team scored 30+ unanswered twice in the same game.

    Broncos should have known what kind of day they were going to have after the Saints first play from scrimmage. I still recall the emotional high I felt watching this game and the real hope I had that the Saints were going to break through and finally win that first playoff game. Unfortunately, I also remember the crushing 13-12 loss to the Giants the following Sunday night.

    • @johnmanier7968
      @johnmanier7968 5 років тому +1

      The Broncos were bad on the road in general, and far worse on artificial turf. In 1988, they were 2-6 away and 0-4 on fake grass. Somehow they managed to eke out a 16-13 OT win at San Francisco., which got rid of their Astroturf 9 years earlier.

    • @DIMP11
      @DIMP11 5 років тому +3

      @@johnmanier7968 They were better in 1989 on the Astroturf though. Actually went 3-0 until getting blitzed on the surface at this same Superdome to the 49ers in the Super Bowl. 1990 Bears were also similarly inept on Astroturf like the 1988 Broncos but still went 11-5 and won the NFC Central somehow.

    1988 Astroturf. FUGLY 55 points given up to the Colts on Halloween Night vs Dickerson. This disaster in New Orleans, giving up 42. 42 allowed at Seattle in a showdown game for 1st place late in the year, which was also the Steve Largent revenge hit on Mike Harden. And 39 allowed at Pittsburgh, even though the Steelers rolled out a total scrub Offense.
    Then look at their 3 road games on grass. A 16-13 win at Candlestick against the eventual champion Niners. Giving up only 215 yards at the Raiders in LA. Abd a 12-0 shutout win at San Diego.
    Think the Turf was a bad deal for Denver?
