I took the front clip all the way off cuz I was already doing gusset kit. Measured all the way up to the corner of the plastic and drew a clean line all the way across. I used a DEWALT multitool with half moon blade to cut it out. Then the dremel sanding wheel to clean it up. I cut more than frank did and one shock shows scuff mark at full compression.
The one in this video is a super atv. Which broke when we jumped.. also the tinted one is very hard to see it of at night... I run the oem tinted windscreen
Once you accomplish the shock swap and torque down the top and bottom bolts, at the top mount when torqued down if you grab the reservoir, is it normal to wiggle back and forth? Even when tightened down? I notice the shock has a bushing in the top loop mount
They can be flipped. You must swap connections. And at the bottom of the shock. It needs to be rotated 180 degrees. Some have done it without any issues
I love your videos, Frank! I flipped my shocks on my 2021 Smart Shox with no problems. Like you say, you have to rotate the bottom 180 degrees so the wiring will be to the inside. I cut out the plastics to about 1/4-3/8" and could see they were hitting the decal a little bit after some jumps in Stoddard Valley. I have since trimmed it to about 1/8" and went a lot wider with the cut. If you just put the top shock bolt in and lift the bottom of the shock, you can see how wide you have to go. Going to Dumont this weekend and will see if it has enough clearance. Thanks for the videos. I have watched most of them! :)
I just swap my shocks but I keep on getting an smart shox light on my dash, When you said you must swap connectors does that mean I got to remove the sensor from the bottom of the shock and swap them ??? Thanks buddy for the quick reply you will do in about 5 mines lol
Yo G, is there a left and right for the shocks. I put ST springs on and noticed the rebound screw is on the front side. In your video they are on the back side. I did not flip the shocks, OEM position.
Rebound position doesnt really matter. U can literally take a screwdriver and rotat the lower shock eyelet 180 degrees. The shock body does matter and has a left and right. When u flips shocks around u have to swap shocks left to right
Didn’t work on my 2021 x3, unfortunately the top off the shock hit the back mount and scratch the Gesus out my new frame paint and shock aswell, and yes I also switched sides and same …👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 i was so happy to due it but it waste off time at the end
Watch you all the time l think your the best at what you do. When flipping the shocks will it without trimming the surround. Looks like there is enough room. I have a 2022 Can Am 4 door. Thank you
Had a 2021 in my posession yesterday.. after looking at it closely. Im sure it can be done but the wiring at the lower shock eyelet normally points inwards. If u flip the shock, i would assume u would have issues correctly reinstalling the wiring on the arm.... Im sure someone will try it soon but i have not and wouldn't recommend it currently
posssilby in the future, but basically the only added steps are disconnecting process. then disconnect shocks at chassis harness. when you swap shocks left to right you just have to rotate the lower shock eyelet 180 degrees. and thats it
Yes you can do it.. you must swap shocks side to side. As well as the shock connection to the body harness.. the lower shock eyelets must be rotated 180 degrees. It is also recommend to disconnect the battery when doing this on smartshox
Yes. But you must swap over connectors. As well as then the lower shock eyelets 180 degrees. Its recommended to do this with the battery negative cable disconnected
If u take a look at the shocks they are clocked at a 6 o clock position to the mounting location.. if u try to flip and install the shock on the same side it will not fit. They will hit towards the rear of the plastics👍
Wtf bro I have a 2021 can am x3 max that I bought new. I cannot get the upper front shocks broke loose for the life of me. I have a huge impact with over 1100 lbs of breaking force and even that won't get it loose. I have no idea why the factory would ever tighten these bolts this tight. Really frustrating. I've even got a breaker bar and a friend and we can get it loose. Watching you effortlessly remove yours is annoying. Lol
I used a utility blade heated up the blade cuts like butter plus put tape to mark where i wanted to cut and clean cut all the way around
Ive heard some guys do that.. sounds like the better method.. thanks for chiming in🤘👍

Same here. We trimmed it even more on his cuz of a scuff.
Looks like I’ll be having some fun during the weekend doing this
🤜🤛
Lol when you lowered it and said “ahhh you broke my shocks” had me DEAD ! 😂🤣🤣

Dose this work only with stock springs? Or can I do with with shock therapy springs?
Great video bro, going to do this on mine. Thanks for the step by step.
👍
If people ask, tell them you got the reservoirs from behind the radiator because it was heating them up quickly...
I dont think it makes much difference.but sounds smart😅

Can u do a how to on a smart shock version👍🏼
I have a 2021 maverick x rr can it be done to swap shocks
It has been done.. I have personally not done it
Frank, any update that you know of , regarding flipping the smart shox 2021 maverick?
They can be flipped. You must swap connections. And at the bottom of the shock. It needs to be rotated 180 degrees. Some have done it without any issues

@@CesarValles-nw5bp yea 100% same exact thing

Both my slash and udr have regular stock bodies
Xk se tiene k poner el del lado pasajero al lado del volante y el del volante al lado pasajero? Ni tengo x3 jaja pero nomas quiero saber 🙏🏻👍🏻
si para que el choque no golpee el chasis
Man I was going back in tyme to check out how to flip the shocks. Now that I see cutting needed I'm scurd!! Time to get a cutting tool!🥴
🙈 close ur eyes and cut
Do u have to do that on 2021 ds models?
You can do this on ds models. And i dont believe u need to cut the plastics no
Anyone done a smart shox model shock flip yet? Any issues with the wires?
Yes, I did it to my 2021. Put the top shock bolt in and rotate the bottom 180 degrees so the wire is on the inside.
I just did them this weekend and my Smart shox light is on now

Every x3 has been able to do this. Not sure what issue u had.. ur welcome to send pics to my IG account if u took any
Me and my boys looked like the 3 stooges 🤣🤣🤣🤣
its a lot easier with a hot razor blade. thats how i cut my plastics
I got to try that🤔 good idea 💡👍👍 😁

On a 72in machine u have to trim.. when the suspension fully compresses the shocks move outward and hit
Even if l don't do any jumping or rock crawling??
@@joecaracoglia8513 yea. Its going to hit 100% and break them worse

Thank you.l will trim out.
Will they hit on a 64?

posssilby in the future, but basically the only added steps are disconnecting process.
then disconnect shocks at chassis harness. when you swap shocks left to right you just have to rotate the lower shock eyelet 180 degrees. and thats it
Do you recommend disconnecting the battery ? Rotating the eyelet would it throw anything off ?
@@luislanderos686 yes disconnect battery. I've done it works perfect
Thank you I’ll give it a shot
Does the smart shox version (2021 Max RR) can flipped too or no ?
Yes it can be done aswell
Is the point of flipping the shocks just the looks? Can you break them flipping them
Strictly looks.. nothing changes. No they will not break from flipping
I love being able to see the shocks moving. I think my Shock Therapy limit straps were a better install with them flipped.
@@garyfrankovich3890 true.. looks cool
What about if you have smart shox ?
Yes you can do it.. you must swap shocks side to side. As well as the shock connection to the body harness.. the lower shock eyelets must be rotated 180 degrees. It is also recommend to disconnect the battery when doing this on smartshox

@@GLifeUTV awesome. Thanks again G
@@GLifeUTV one last question, so I’ll be able to just turn the entire eyelet 180 degrees when the shock is of the mount correct?
@@1ttcobra2003 the lower portion of the shock, shaft and eyelet will turn. Just stick a screwdriver in where the bolt is at and turn it 180
@@GLifeUTV 🙏🏼
Is this also required to trim for the 64 models also?
I dont beleive so no
Why switch what side the shocks are on? Why not just flip them around?
If u take a look at the shocks they are clocked at a 6 o clock position to the mounting location.. if u try to flip and install the shock on the same side it will not fit. They will hit towards the rear of the plastics👍
Have you flip smart shocks
I have not. But many have . Just disconnect them and turn the lower shock eyelet 180 degrees. Swap from left to right
Is that the 8 or 15” extension
Its the bigger 15"
Can smart shox flip too?
Yes, I did it to my 2021. Put the top shock bolt in and rotate the bottom 180 degrees so the wire is on the inside.

Are the shocks suppose to have a little play after this is done ?
