    It was released in July 1973 as the first single from his album Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer. The song peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
    Reaching RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada, Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer, became his only number 1.

    I went to a Charlie Pride concert in Springfield, MA either in 1972 or 1973, Johnny Russel was the opening act he stole the show from Charlie. What an amazing talent Mr.Russell was

    I had a chance to interview Johnny for our Air Force Recruiting public service show -- Country Music Time in Nashville. Johnny invited my boss and I to the Opry that night and what a wonderful, wonderful man! What a talent!

    I'm pretty sure this was filmed at the old Cheyenne Saloon which was a part of Church Street Station in downtown Orlando, Florida.

      Stroh’s was a sponsor of this particular concert series.
      Johnny was known to switch out the beer name depending where he was playing owing to the specific geographic beverage of choice ie: ST Louis he would use Budweiser, in Milwaukee he would use Schlitz etc……the crowd loved it.
      Although many performers and entertainers have sold their soul,Johnny Russell was definitely not one of them.
