Side note, on some flutes(depending on the brand and pad grommet situation), you SHOULD NOT pop the plugs out with a pen/pencil!!! You’re better off piercing the plug with a pin/needle and pulling it out from the top. Have discussed this with a group of professional flute repair people, and it’s what they recommend.
I agree. The instruction that came with my new Miyazawa explicitly says to extract a plug with a pin outwards otherwise it will dislodge a special pad insert.
I see this after I’ve already done that 😅 is there any way to really tell if my technique is off or if the pads are messed up because I did it like that?
Hi there, Yes, the fingerings for the flute are the same for an open and closed hole flute. There are a couple of exceptions for the very top notes of the flute though. 😀
Thanks i'll try take my hole plugs out and just do it without them
Ok, good luck Sufy!

Hi Jane, I have a new Irish open hole flute(delrin) which has two holes in the foot joint, what are these for. I LOVE YOUR VIDEO LESSONS..

Oh interesting! I did not know that! THanks for letting me know. I'm going to have a chat to my flute repairer about it to learn more. Jane
