- Welcome to the first video of my Great Pottery Throw Down Challenge...
To celebrate the new series of the Great Pottery Throw Down I’ve challenged myself to do ‘the throw down’ which is set to the contestants on the show every week.
The show airs on a Sunday here in the UK so I’ll be doing the challenge the next day. I’ll film them during the day and upload them here to UA-cam every Monday. I’ll be sharing what I learned along the way as well as some pottery tips so make sure you subscribe to my channel. And drop this video a like.
You guys are very welcome to do the challenges with me. It might be cool to compare notes and have a little bit of competitive fun along the way. The point is to challenge ourselves and try new things and maybe inspire others at the same time.
I am filming the challenges in real time with little or no editing to the footage so you can see what really happened! (I’ll only trim the beginning and ends) I’m aiming for them all to be shot in one take.
Week one was The Milk Jug Challenge.
Which was to throw as many milk jugs as you can in 15 mins. They had to be consistent, in proportion and as neat as possible. They didn't tell us how much clay they used on the show so I guessed at 1lb (which is about 450grams)
Keith said he could throw 15 in 15 minutes!!
Let’s see how many I can throw in the same time. You’d have to watch to find out!
Here’s the link to the Pottery Club Tutorial, all about throwing consistently, I mentioned in the video: shorturl.at/TY389

Fab😊. What weight of clay did you use?
I mentioned the weight during the video at 3mins 12secs. They didn't tell us the weight in the show so I guessed: 1lb / 450grams of clay.
For sure zero in the bucket and tears from Keith. 👏
😂😂😂 Thank you!
This was fun and informative. Thank you! I don’t think Keith would have smashed any of them 😂 and I agree I think you’d have gone faster and your perfectionist would have chilled a bit if you had been live at the competition.
I was so nervous for you coming into that last throw.....great job! They look perfect👍👍
Ha ha! I was so close to getting 6! If my camera hadn't of stopped I might of made it 😂
I'm impressed. You did great! I probably wouldn't get past centering in the first 15 minutes. I'm being a bit dramatic, but even after 4 years, I still struggle on the wheel. I'm a much better hand builder, but I'm not giving up the wheel.
Aw thank you! Check out my other videos Pottery: Throwing on the Potter's Wheel The Basics: the 3 C's: centring, coning, cylinders - they might help.
Watch lots of videos of different potters throwing. That helped me. Keep practicing.
I have to ask do you have the "upgraded" SSX drive for the wheel? If so is it worth the added cost?
Excellent! Can you explain the 7:00 spout comment?
As described by Keith on the show 'For a jug to be a good pourer the lip should point towards 7 o'clock' (if you're pouring with your right hand that is 😉)
Thanks! Must have missed it !
Any time!

I do indeed, I made a video explaining how here: ua-cam.com/video/jq4oE0mfty4/v-deo.htmlsi=T57IpglhNmNubcMX
Wrong spouts! Which can run milk or water all over the table
Fliss has gone 😢 That’s my interest just lost
Oh no!! No spoilers please!!! 😉
