What camera should I review next?
Fuji Xt3 please
hi Yc i'm Dery , and i need know, why all producer in moment of footage they take picture on the artist???
zcam E2 !
Canon R, why you buy the Canon R in this video? Love your músic videos! (I want to make música videos and travel content) Sony a7iii por Canon R?
Bro come to Vegas and review my Sony fs5 mkii even if you dont want to collab I’ll let you review it it’s amazing variable Nd filter great entry pro cinema camera at a good sub $5000 category
Dude this is how you build a community! 1. Provide amazing content 2. Involve your audience 3. Give back to the audience. Nailed it!
This is definatley my new favorite channel right now! Great work
/Kevin, Sweden
Thanks Kevin
Some of these issues are standard cinema issues that people just need to get used to. No ibis, power hungry, windowing when switching resolutions, huge file sizes.... all things I deal with on my RED. Just is what it is. Great review though. Let me know if you’re in Philly and I’ll get our RED in your hands.
Yeah definitely
it sucks
That’s what I’m saying. I don’t own one but it’s pretty obvious if you’re into film and all you know about rigging. Cinema cameras aren’t for consumers really but the Bmpcc4k is the feet in the water of cinema cameras
I shoot all my music videos w th enew black magic ua-cam.com/video/o0-jnHwGvvY/v-deo.html
@@YCImaging I just bought this camera is it good for beginners??
This camera is a BEAST. Love mine. Little note on the media. Don't be afraid to use 12:1 compression. The quality is incredible. I only use 3:1 for 120p or otherwise would only use it for green screen stuff. 12:1 and you can use SD cards for recording and it is amazing quality.
What do you think of prores proxy?
What format is easiest on an older machine for editing? I have a 2014 MBP 15" w/ 16GB RAM and would love to shoot and edit 12:1 BRAW
@@shrigg With Davinci resolve Studio you can edit 4k 60fps Braw on a 2011 Macbook pro. I have a 2015 Lenovo Y50 with a I7 4720hq 16gbram and gtx 960m and it handles 4kDCI 60fps Braw 3:1 like its 720p. The only time it struggle is with noise reduction and multicam. And Resolve studio come free withe camera.
It isn’t a cheap quality camera and isn’t made of plastic. It is actually made from a carbon fiber polycarbonate composite which ensures it is extremely strong and sturdy whilst also being incredibly lightweight. This really is an incredible camera for its affordable price, materials, best UI in industry, colour science, ergonomics, screen, ports, included FREE DaVinci Resolve Studio and Blackmagic RAW. Being a cinema camera, the pocket 4k will likely commonly sit in a cage so I don’t see the flip out screen as that big of a problem. In terms of the battery life, there is a new battery grip which offers over 2hrs of additional charge and you can record to SD cards in BRAW. The file size of the footage should be the smallest possible in the industry for RAW files by taking advantage of BRAW. The Wise PTS-256 is a really compact SSD which is great for this camera as well. Great coverage of this really innovative and popular camera. Glad you joined to the Blackmagic camera club 🎬🎥. Peace.
Yea I was gonna say lol its actually not plastic.
It's not a carbon fiber base. It's a polycarbonate (Plastic) with flakes of Carbon Fiber embedded throughout. This is not the same as a carbon fiber body. It's still plastic. This manufacturing technique can, at times, produce a stronger more flame resistant plastic. But it's still plastic and will resemble normal plastic in it's characteristics more than a carbon fiber.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this but, Blackmagic raw 12:1 compression is actually smaller in file size than the majority of the prores codecs, including prores hq
dam for real?
Era exatamente isso o que eu ia escrever. Os arquivos em RAW são menores. O workflow dela em RAW é melhor que qualquer outra câmera que já trabalhei.
I just want to say, i know i’m late but i copped this camera a month ago and holy hell! EVERY single thing this man said in this video is 110 %% accurate. I’m coming from a A6500 and it’s totally different! I’ve shot a couple NFL players, couple travel videos etc and they all have turned out super crispy. Thank you for being you my dude. *2 years late*
I think you absolutely nailed it. I somehow was able to get mine last year, but it isn’t my first camera of choice. There wasn’t anything I could put to words as to why, you did a masterful job. Love your channel, work and reviews! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
man, the light is so warm and picture is an example of a perfect brightness and exposure, super cool
This is the first presentation that I've seen which makes a very clear point that everything about the BMPCC4K must be taken in the context that it's a cinema camera and so shouldn't be compared to DSLRs/mirrorless cameras that can do video. Kudos for that. I wish more reviewers would do the same. Once that point is established, the BMPCC4K makes complete sense. I'm starting to do video and received mine in Oct 2018 with that fully in mind.
Always dope seeing your reviews. Makes me want to put that much more attention into everything I do visually. Just wanted to come through and show some love. Keep at it bro!
Soooo, I've watched all the big guys review this camera and you put them to shame by a large margin. You really used the camera like a person who would purchase the camera should use the camera. Everyone else just did a review of the features, a few with comparison images, but now -- after seeing your review -- I can clearly see what was missing: none of them gave me the feel as to what it would be like to really have to work with the BMPCC.
Well done.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen of this camera, and I’ve seen a lot of them. Great work!
Keep up the reviews u do a great thorough job, most ppl leave stuff out that they don’t think is important but it is
You and Ryan are killing it bro!
Was lucky enough to get one within a week of ordering. Im loving it so far but it is definitely a challenge coming from the more prosumer cameras out there. big plus is that it comes with resolve so you pretty much get all the tools you need to make your magic. im rigging mine out currently, i have a smallrig cage and im going to get a v mount battery to eliminate the battery issue.
About time brother, you're late! Join the BMPCC family....💪🏼💪🏾🎬🎥
Great review, thanks. I love the practical vantage point that you come at this review with. The insights on form factor and the menus for example, are harder to come by on UA-cam reviews than the technical specs and image quality that most reviews focus on. This helped me realise this is probably not the upgrade for me that I was thinking it was. I use a GH4 currently, and had decided that my next camera was either the BMPCC4k or the GH5S. Now I know I´ll stick with the GH5s...
Great review! Good to see this camera given the praise and criticism it deserves, though the raw options actually tend to be smaller than Prores HQ at 5:1 and higher compression levels
I like that you acknowledge the fact that this really is a cinema camera. People that don't come from a cine background will struggle to understand the real hype on this camera. This camera costs the same as the tripod people would use to support the cameras capable of this 5 years ago. It's a shame you weren't able to try the raw and use lenses that really make a difference with it. Great first look man. ✌️
what are some good cine lenses that work well with this camera?
@@chamindikawanduragala7582 best lens is still the Sigma 18-35 f.8 combined with a metabones 0.71x speedbooster (with the 0.64x you ll get some heavy vignetting in the corners) but if plan to go full nuts get Zeiss Otus primes with the 0.64x metabones that way you ll get a crazy sharp image but you can prepare yourself to sell your kindneys for it :D
@@d11media thanks for the info!
@@chamindikawanduragala7582 the beautiful thing about Cine lens's are that they are what give a film character. Each set of cinema lens's have there own characteristics that can completely change the look of a film. If you use Cooke Len's you'll get a beautiful warm tone with soft focal fall off toward the edges, whereas if you go with Zeiss CP.3's you'll get a colder look that is tack sharp and with a more definitive focal transition. Vintage lens all have different characteristics that change not just between lens types, but even individual Len's within a set.
There are lots of high end lens tests here on UA-cam that you can look up to learn the different look of each lens. Try searching 'cinema lens test'.
@@d11media what about the Sigma 35 compared to Sigma 18-35?
Well done on this review! As always amazing video!
This was a great review, and the self-awareness you used to also provide fair framing for your negatives was wise to include, & helpful. You outlined the distinction well between prosumer-ready run and gun type cameras vs a cinema camera. Thanks!
Really nice review. You told me more than most of the other camera reviewers posted. You made it very accessible. I want to invest in a BMPCC camera at one point. I like the idea of 4K, but seeing that they just put out a 6K that takes Canon lenses......interests me. Like your model of renting to review. Perhaps I should rent the 6K for a week, taking after your model, to try it out for myself. You've given me lots of new ideas. That's my biggest compliment to you, YCImaging, you opened my mind in an unexpected way. Thanks & keep filming.
I love your reviews because you're always humble and give honest opinions!
The z cam e2 is the new best kept secret. 4k @ 120fps, 10 bit 422 and they have a super 35 6k, and full frame 8K option coming out. I think it's worth checking out for your work flow.
been using lens rentals for a while definitely gonna use your promo next time
excellent review. been wanting to try one of these out since they came out and everything you listed on the negatives sides is the things I was concerned about, which I'm sure most are. good stuff.
Best review on this camera I've seen so far. Thanks for putting all of the positives and negatives in perspective.
Dude… AMAZING video. You did an awesome job being self aware of your own biases and how we all go into something with a different mind set.
I bought the BMPCC4K previous month. I love the camera. It has a few negatives, but the image quality makes up for it for me personally.
Beautiful footage! A talented shooter like yourself can make any modern camera produce good results but there is an organic feel to the Black Magic that the others don't get
Yooooooo I been WAITING FOR THIS ONE !!!!!!!
I love how honest you are about the "negatives." So often I see other reviewers bashing this camera because it doesn't have auto focus (continuous at least), good battery life, or IBIS. Like you said a thousand times, this is a cinema style camera, not an A7iii. You have to rig it up like a real cinema camera, and when you do, the quality is almost unmatched with the price point.
Yep and you can cage it, add 500GB Samsung drive and a pop it on a Moza Air 2 and power it from there, stablilsed, for ages for the same price as an A7iii
Cool vid. I was very close to buying this camera, but it was sold out. Was planning to use it for weddings, but I wound up changing my mind once I thought about all the rigging I would need for it. Wound up sticking with my JVC ls300 for now, and also bought a Sony nx80. Gotta be fast at weddings. Anyway great insights.
great video man, just found your channel, you have a fan!
This is a great video. Dude knows what's up. I need a rig and this is the direction I'll be going
this was so helpful man. thank you
Great style. Great review. Something fresh. Keep it up, sir!
This is the exact camera we use for our new videos and came to love the small size and quality !! Love the review :)
New subscriber! You know your stuff and explain simply. Nice channel!
I have to say I love the prices on that rental site. Most of them you look up the price it looks cheap but then the shipping and processing fees kill you. Here it’s pretty much straight up the price is what you see +25 bucks for shipping.
Awesome review as always. This is a big boy camera that definitely requires a specialized skill set to use, especially if you wanna fully utilized all the features and functions of this beast. Definitely will be picking this up in the distant future. Also, I'd love to see you review the Lumix S1 and see how it pairs up against your GH5.
Nice work, fair look at the P4K.
Great Video YC. Hey Curtis what’s your take on the built in mic and audio outputs on the P4K? Would u use the built in preamps or use an external recorder like the Tascam dr 60d II or zoom h5? P.S. I’m saving for the mixpre 3.
@@asidtone6465 This is my take on the audio I/O of the P4K: ua-cam.com/video/m6m4f_-mBDs/v-deo.html
Why am I watching this? I got it already.
yuc0n worth it?
money man money man yea thats you
To feel good about your purchase.
@Neil Mo Thanks!Canon DSLR's are indeed a little irrelevant in pro video shooting today)
haha I'm the same, I think because I watched so much bmpcc4k content BEFORE buying that UA-cam is just serving me a tonne of it still now haha.
Very intelligent BMPCC4K review bro! Not that none of them have been 😂, just appreciated the transparency about it, and I'm sure everyone here does. Tons of reviews out on this but no one came from this perspective. Keep it coming bro!!! 🎥💪🏾🙏🏾
homie knows his shit. Found this while looking for a camera to shoot interviews on. Great review brotha!
Rap videos look weird with the bmpc4k. Looks like a netflix show. Haha
I think he need to try more LUTs for this camera !
It's all about how you color your footage. Anyone using this camera must spend time understanding how RGB curves work. Its takes alot more than an applying an S Curve and contrast to get the best out of this camera. But he did a good job for a first try.
avalanwa that’s damn near every camera
it's the particular style he's using some of the stuff i've seen is mind blowing
BMPCC is close to film. It's more of a film camera. Their color science is not like a regular digital camera when you can just throw a LUT on. And besides, he used a filter called, PRO-MIST, that's why it looks dreamy.
i have a random question: i switched from the sony a6300 to the bmpcc4k. i've got the sigma 30mm and 16mm 1.4 and the 10-18mm sony lens (which is e-mount i guess). is there any adapter for the blackmagic, so i can use the e mount lenses on my blackmagic? would be amazing if you guys can help me out!
Yes Adapter IS there For blackmagic.. but its too late reply
I was actually in eed of the e mount adapter as well but could not see any so i had to sell my lens and go for the sigma 18-35mm
i had this camera for a month already and have my first music video for it tomorrow i got the extra accessories needed to run it smoothly cant wait
Great review, Chrys - keep doing what you're doing! Btw others have prob said it already, but you absolutely need to make sure firmware is updated and then shoot in Blackmagic RAW Q5 or 12:1 (I like Q5 personally.) It's life-changing because you get raw quality and flexibility at file sizes that are way, way smaller than ProRes HQ!! And if you aren't feeling Davinci for editing, just grab BRAW Studio for Premiere for $30.
A lot of great information. I don't think there are a lot of reviews that go into real world use scenarios. Thank you!
Something that surprised about this camera is the Blackmagic Raw takes up LESS memory space than prores.
Once the BMRAW update came out ..it blew my mind! It's crazy to me how little space it takes up and how great the quality and control over the image is. For MOST of my work.... I don't really need to go beyond 8:1 compression...AND it takes up less space than the Pro-Res equivalent!
@@ViziaFilms sure can! I was able to get up to 8:1 compression on the sandisk 95 mb/s card I had, with NO PROBLEM! It was great! I have also shot with a regular SSD in a portable enclosure, BM RAW and had no issues!
MiggyVision is the sd card adequate storage at that rate? Or are you going to be changing out a lot (which for me isn’t that big a deal)
@@kyneticfilms it depends on how big your SD card is and which compression you use. I have a 128GB card and in 12:1 BMRAW I get over an hour I believe
solid review! love the length!
You know your stuff. Great review!!
Wow, the clarity on that thing is crazy! Can you review one of the Nikon Z6 or 7 cameras?
I would love to see the Z6 with the atomos ninja v!
Best review I’ve seen for this camera
BY FAR my favorite footage and grading I've seen from this camera. I no longer have doubts. Thank you for sharing man.
Great video. It fits on the Moza Air 2 gimbal. I have it with the Tilta cage with external SSD and Sigma 18-35 on the Moza Air 2. Heavy, yes, but working.
I love the Metabone XL coupled with a 2.8 and faster. Coupled 4/3 crop (which is larger than Micro 4/3) will end you up with a 1.21 crop which come pretty damn close to a full frame which would have made a lot of your shots pop with crisp subjects and creamy bokeh. I also notice you didn’t use any ND filters which is a must in the conditions you were shooting in. Those shots would have completely popped with minimal clipped highlights. Also I only shoot in BMRAW due to the small file sizes. The quality of the compressed footage is incredible. Plus BRaw at 12:1 is smaller than Prores so I think you should definitely re-think the use of Prores when attempting to get the best images. Anyway, thanks for the review and I hope too see you using it more and I am excited to see what you come up with in the future.
Your work place is so different than mine! I''m jealous! :) Great video, thank you for making this! Truly grateful!
Having come from the BMPCC, the P4K is a major step up in every way. The pre-amps are good, the onboard mics are good, the image is RIDICULOUS.
I have never shot those other autofocusing stabilizing cameras, so I don't know what I'm missing... HAHA
love ur grades, nice colors and blooms
!
Thanks for the knowledge my dude, super helpful
You stay coming to Seattle! Great review by the way ✊🏾✊🏾
Thanks for the promo code, just rented Sigma lens. Didn’t know if I should buy them or not so this is a perfect opportunity to try them out. Videos great bro!
Great review, great footage.
great review, i love your honesty
Thanks for the lowdown on this camera. Always helpful.
Great review! Keep it up.
I totally and always appreciate your reviews bro. I think I can just close my eyes and buy stuff just from your reviews. Now I am thinking you can do a review on the Blackmagic Ursa mini 4k as Im really thinking of getting one in the near future. like 2020 all being well
Super helpful! Thank you for this
excellent review. appreciate your working pro honesty. much success to you.
Honest review bro. Thank you.
Dope video, very helpful resource!
Nice review man. Got my BMPCC4K on order!
7:04 Thanks for the shoutout lol Love your videos man incredibly informative always
😂🤣
Your comment about the rear touchscreen is right on the button. Blackmagic take note!
You can actually record 4K60p raw with the BMPCC4K with the Braw file. My 95Mb/s SD card can handle it at 8:1 and 12:1 without frame drop. Dope quality, can't make the difference between other compression ratio of raw.
IBIS on a cinema camera would be a pain. I enjoy the IBIS on ym GH5 for run and gun, but I would hate it on my BMPCC4K. Jumpy flares etc are just so bad.
Been waiting on this one......
Definitely review the Fuji X-T3!!!!!!
Top three things they should have changed: 1. Battery life, 2 Form factor (to go on a Ronin S) and 3. Flip screen. None of that would have substantially increased the cost but would have made it a perfect design. I'm sure theres an engineer at Black Magic who deserves a promotion for making the same recommendations but being overruled.
FIRST OFF..Dope Video!! SECONDLY, Who Produced that beat?? FIRRRREEEE
Some of your footage reminded me of Philip Bloom's work. Those who know, know that's a compliment.
Thats only because of that Brown Color Tint Grad Phillip applyz to everything he shoots. You choose your look in post.
EXAMPLE.

@@darrylsmith3102 I was talking about not only the look, but the composition. Shot of the sign. Shot of people walking in slow motion at a distance.
I'm glad you were able to get a chance to use the camera, and I am happy you made this video. Before the camera was actually released, I made a few videos on my youtube page trying to prepare many people for this very thing, but I feel it's probably best people heard it from someone like you. As I agree, many people who were originally looking at this camera are people who are use to DLSR and mirrorless cameras.
You said almost exactly what I said in my review of the camera, which is you need to prepare and accept the camera for what it is, a cinema camera. If you go in with the mindset of what a cinema camera needs, then there's no camera that can match it at it's price point.
I know you only rented it and I'm not sure if you feel you would add the camera to your arsenal, but if you do and you have questions, feel free to drop a line on my channel. Always enjoy helping people out with this camera.
its already released tho???
@@ianblackburn2645 it's been out since last year. I got mines in October
Great review!!
Best review I've seen! Thanks for this! - it's great to hear about the mindset as you approach this camera - expect a dslr and be disappointed. Noted.
I bought this and use it when I am on a tripod in a controlled setting, with AC power. I use my Gh5s for most things but for the $$$, this camera is the best value if it fits how you use it.
That’s a really good idea, I didn’t even use the AC power.
Great review. Thanks!
Hey bro, take us on one of shoots bro. That would be dope to see again
I got mine in 20`9. I ordred from a tiny camera store, and was on a 2 week waiting list when everyone I know ordered from larger camera stores and were on a 6 month list. For ME, the power issue was a NIGHTMARE. In 2022, I have more battery options than just the small canon batteries, and the big CORE bricks. So, all in all, I feel it is still a relavent camera for me, especially with the firmware updates too. If I had the cash, I would upgrade to a 6K Pro, or even a Ursa Mini Pro 12K.
Thanks mAte !
A very objective conclusion..!
So true ..
The GH Pana are still One top for music Vd bro
Hey bro, prores takes more space than raw options, so take a look at that;) keep the good work!
Thank you bro ur channel is really useful
Honestly I feel like for the types of video content you create this camera would be perfect for you, after putting the proper package together. Image quality is king after all.
I’ve been using this camera rigged for about 4 months and I love it. It’s very much for prosumers and professionals. I spent roughly an extra $2000 to make it function at its best.
@@ViziaFilms Unfortunately, I don't have a kit account. However, my rig is a collection of items that came from watching youtube videos about the BMPCC4k. I have a few luxury items but at the minimum, you need an SSD (I recommend at least 1TB), a cage to mount the SSD on, a battery solution (I use V-Mount), a V-Lock plate to attach the battery, and 15mm rods to attach the V-Lock plate.
For the price and quality, indie film makers are in the game like when Protools came out with the Digi 001. This camera is the best stepping stone to real film making. Yes you will have to learn to color grade and pick up other skills, but in the end you will be a better film maker. nice review!
Good review......I use lens rentals too. I'm close to the office in Memphis so I can pick it up or have them ship it to me in The Sip!
Good stuff 👍🏾
Like the vibe man.
I wonder if having the offset plate would have let you fit it on the ronin-m, and if the battery grip thats coming out would have helped a lot with the depressing battery life? But, thats like you said more rigging. I'm thinking that its going to be my next big investment regardless.
