I keep favorite patterns I've used over the years! I have a few that have been used for 10 to 15 years, they're basic, classic styles. Been going through toddler & baby patterns to use for my 3 year old & 5 month old great-granddaughters. You inspire to stretch our wings😊

Right before Christmas last year, I organized my closet, where I keep both my yarn and fabric stashes. I had 13 totes of fabric and 17 vacuum bags of yarn! I went through all of it and ended up donating 7-8 totes worth of fabric and 2-3 bags of yarn! I’m still working on slowly getting rid of more, but the fact that I work at Hobby Lobby doesn’t help! 😂
I've realized that even if I'm torn about tossing or letting something go, and I go ahead and let it go, in a few months I won't even remember I had it. Makes it easier to part with things.
Exactly! Especially if those are things/supplies that I have never used or dislike using, like transfer paper. I had a full roll of it, brand new for a few years. I gave it to my friend who uses it all the time and I haven't event thought about it except for bringing it up in this example.

I do agree. The more choices I have, the harder it is to make a decision. This is why I am using up my fabric stash sewing for Dress a Girl this year.
Thanks for the inspiration! I dream of having a sewing room some day, but for now my sewing supplies are scattered around the house wherever I can find space to tuck them away. Simplifying and consolidating will make it more practical for me to get any sewing done. It's the only way, really, since I have 3 little ones and sew in our main eating area!
A cluttered space creates a cluttered mind. The neater i keep my space, the clearer i think. Clutter creates chaos & most of us have enough of that in our lives without adding to it :)). If youre not using it, give it to someone who will!! Many women would love to sew, but cant afford fabric, notions. Help them out! Both of you will be blessed
I don’t have any of these issues. I’ve sewn on and off for a long time. I’m on a tight budget. I only have purchased what I needed not wanted, or know I need to use, not on a whim. The fabric I buy has an intended use at that time, I never buy in advance. Regarding Patterns, I only buy what I can alter into different clothing, so I use the patterns many times, including mixing and matching patterns.
I keep all fabric scraps to make something else out of in the future.
I have felt this way about my living space in general, and I am working hard to figure out what my life really needs at this point. I've been feeling really overwhelmed with too many choices about some kind of bed, an enclosed kitty litter box, some kind of lighting.... so many things. I'm taking time and reevaluating as I go along and see what each thing does here. I have just over 300sq feet now! Instead of almost 30 acres and 2 houses. This feels much better. For me.
I don't have a stash. I only buy what I am going to use for the project that I have chosen. This mostly applies to everything else in the project. I do have some some sewing tools that I use almost all the time.
As time goes by and we gain more experience in our sewing room, we can definitely identify what are the most needed and used notions and pieces that we need.
I have a little stash 😅, but I’m trying to use it all to make things. After that I think I will only buy what I need for the right project ( me thinks!) 😅.
I did have a few things that tossed, passed on and donated. Now when I want to buy something I really wait and see if I REALLY needed it. Because the more stuff I get….. the more space I will need to find to house it all! 😂😂
I do a purge at least once a year and it is freeing. It also means I have room to buy new fabric! And I take an inventory of my supplies and see what I need. I do enjoy your videos.❤
I keep two small spaces reserved in my sewing room, one is for Goodwill - anything I no longer intend to use goes there and when I leave my sewing room I take it with me and put it in the Goodwill box on the porch (we take it in when full. The other is where I put fabric I am no longer planning to use. I give it to my friend when we get together and any she doesn't want goes into her Goodwill box. It doesn't feel like a big project if your making these decisions on an ongoing basis.
I’m a brand new sewer so I don’t have this issue…yet. Still working on building up my supplies/collection! But I still watched to get future ideas and because I love your voice haha 😆
I declutter and put everything in totes and take it to the basement to store just in case I ever need it again. I don't mind buying fabrics and notions, but I sure do hate to part with any of it.
Lovely video, Alisa. I tend to have more choices than necessary. For me, it's a matter of convenience than anything else. I need to drive for over an hour to get to the proper fabric store or order online.
I do try to keep my supplies organised to make my life easier :)
Thankyou for the inspiration. I am going to declutter and donate a lot of my materials that are truly the thing that make me feel guilty cause i feel i have to make something with it but its not my taste of material i got it as a handover...bla bla bla...so here it go😂
Another thought provoking video (as usual😊). Thank you for inspiring me to create a different management plan for my fabric scrap stash and to maybe pass on some that I am not in love with, but kept just because it was free. That might help me make better project choices that I will be pleased to wear (even out of the house…😉)

If only people would stop gifting me supplies, I do have one rule, shop from stash, However you have inspired me to go through those suitcases under the bed today and be brutal, use, sell of donate. thank you

Decision fatigue is real. My fabric stash is enormous but most of it is not for normal wear, because I do historical re-enacting. I need to inventory what I have and make a plan, my needs have changed, both in my hobby and normal life.
I'd like to hear your opinion as to why you don't use commercial patterns? I'm curious, if there's a reason.
I just like drafting my own patterns, as you can see from numerous pattern drafting videos on my channel, and I think in most cases for me it is easier, faster and gives a better result. Also, I don't need to buy patterns, because I work from drafted pattern blocks, only expense is the tissue paper and my time :)

I organize my fabric by type: quilting cottons, fleece, knits, silky, denim, etc. After watching this video, I need to purge and bless someone else with my “treasures”.

Every piece of fabric I own has potential to be sewn into something useful which is why I will not part with it. I may have too many sewing machines though.

Everybody is different :) From my personal experience I know that I have purchased fabric years ago that no longer has any potential for me, so I pass it on to people who will use it and make use of it :)
And too much stuff creates clutter😂
I do a regular edit and organization in my sewing room and I try to focus on unfinished projects once a year. The past couple of years i have really cut down on fabric purchases, i only buy one quilt magazine and I decided to ask for items to replace very worn or regularly used, for gifts. For example, rotary blades, replacing bent straight pins, anew rotary mat and ruler, etc. I have been working hard to keep everything in order now and it just buy things I think I might use, but that I know will be used. I had to clean out an extremely overcrowded apartment for a relative last fall, and nothing gets you motivated the way a tight deadlines does. I had to move quickly and make fast decisions. I regularly deal with my house and sewing room, but this experience really put things in perspective. How much time do I really have to work on things and how much of this stuff can I realistically use? Because there's always going to be new stuff
