VAN LIFE as a SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER // Tour + Interview.

- Kendra lives in her 1994 volksvagon westfalia with a converted hightop. This video is a look into her life and why she decided vanlife is for her, and a tour of her Van home. Minimalism is something Kendra was always drawn too and when she found this van it felt right for her to just move into it and start traveling, she ended up living in squamish and tofino throughout the summer in her van. Her instagram bio says she is just an island chick doing her thing in a van named Penelope, and that sounds pretty accurate! So please enjoy this mini documentary which is a look into the life of solo female van dweller!

Home is home no matter how small. Warm and neat.
I agree tho I need space to hid the bodies
It blows my mind how her life is such a juxtaposition!!!! Simplicity, minimalism, pleasure, relaxation, quiet on her own time and a corporate job for work. I can’t even imagine. Haha good for her for making room for both lifestyles.
Thank Olivia! I've transitioned into remote work- makes living on the road easier :)
Kendra Stoner hey Kendra you're an inspiration, I love how you live you life good for you
i wish i was 30 years younger...i live in a 20' travel trailer (full time rv park) pulled with a truck and camperized canopy (for camping) ...nearly 70 now with health issues restricts my ability to go off grid so i enjoy these vids in the mean time...thanks
Thanks for sharing, wish you the best with your health issues!
I'll live it up for you Billy
I know what you mean. For myself, I wish I'd have found a partner willing to do something like this. I would totally do this.
Thanks for reminding that I should not postpone my dreams but pursue them.
@J H sure you should...health is important, i went and had a heart attack and while in hospital they found out my kidneys aren't working right so i gotta stick around (i still go out for one or two months at a time) in case something happens ...if your health is good, go for it !!! i am still going out in my 'canopy/camper' in between visits to the doctor.
i agree, possessions and "stuff" imprisons you. there is no freedom to roam if your constantly worrying about the stuff you've left behind at home.
You know it Brian!
My stuff Is all thrift store treasures. I don't worry about it when I travel
@@enigma9971 you've cracked it!
I think everyone who is living in a van or vehicle is so smart. And they all seem so much happier with less, like my Native People. LESS stressful life it seems. Thank You for sharing your vids. I have hit the like and SUBSCRIBED.
Mono Nation - Smarter??? Lol
What you commented, friend, reminds me of something I read, I think in one of my church history books, that it was recorded one Indian commenting, White man builds his home like he will live forever.
I love your rig. I see a lot more females on the road van dwelling than males. That’s so empowering. Be safe out on the road
Trust NO one.
Thank you Rebecca, it truly has been an incredible experience.
ha...
so empowered
@Rebecca Swilling, what do you think that allot of those dudes in those 18 wheelers are doing?
Allot of the guys driving those 18 wheelers are basically homeless living in a truck, only they can’t really go do whatever they want whenever they want because:
1: stereotyping - no body wants to see a big truck anywhere near them even when bobtailing and allot of folks think that truckers are not exactly people.
2: it is primarily a job, as of late over-regulated and grossly underpaid, and you go where the (very cheap) freight takes you, not where you’d like to go. (stop trucking for 3 days and the world, your market places and gas stations, would go post apocalyptic. yeah, food and toiletries don’t just miraculously appear on store shelves, and the fuel for your cars and RVs it’s not just springing from under the ground underneath the gas stations )
3: no access on allot of roads because of weight and size limitations and no access to camping sites because of the fact that it’s considered a “commercial vehicle” even when not engaged in commercial activities, and also this classification makes you a big target for cops and the DoT everywhere you go. (they look at you as a cash cow for some reason)
So yea, there are allot of dudes living life on wheels completely solo 24/7/365 and getting old looking at the world through a darn windshield at 70 Mi/h, and also allot of nasty truck stop parking lots at 0 Mi/h.
My dream is to be able one day to get the F off the land and away from people and go bob on the great saltwater deserts on a sailing catamaran. However savage the oceans are, I think that they’re allot more welcoming than the world full of greed and scavengers !
I have seen a few van life videos by now but I liked your approach to van life the best. You haven't tried to turn your van into a designer home. It is the way it should be. Your happiness is very clear and reflects in the way you talk unlike the psycho babble of some van lifers. Keep it up and be safe.
I love that she exists...❤️
I saw a hack you might consider doing.....placing a size 12-13mens boots outside to give the impression you aren't alone. And add a chair also. It may deter crazy people...Just saying........
D Winslow I did that outside my cabin. And a very large dog dish.
I'm not sure where you're from but Van life for me has been a breeze. Only scary part is running into wild life when I'm hiking around my van. Thanks for the tip!
Kendra Stoner I’m glad it has been a breeze. Western WA can be interesting- everyone I know has had their vehicles stolen at least once. One never got recovered. I consider myself lucky that only three of my vehicles had windows broken to steal camping equipment and cameras. Compared to Seattle and its suburbs , New York was safe😆.. And theft at trailhead parking lots is a big problem. Which reminds me- I have to glue covers over the screws on the license plates to discourage theft.
D Winslow just get a gun for double protection a pair or boots won't stop anyone
I agree with getting a gun. But I need to learn how to use one first. I would like one for camping as well as hiking. But you are right, shoes may deter the guy looking to harm the easy target traveling alone.
I feel like this is so much more legit. I’m grateful that your van-life story is so functional and simple and not so unattainably beautiful/made.
Thanks Devon!
IT is nice to see another way of surviving and living life. I am 53 have 4 adult kids and 2 grandkids living with us and 4 k per year in property tax. I love my kids so much but I am so tired of being a parent. We have a small trailer we pimped out for boondocking and that helps us through spring summer and fall. Winter is long. We used to go to Florida for 3 weeks but our border is closed so I applaud you for being independant and resourceful.
Her last name is STONER! What a LENGEND!!
HAHAH!
yep... just like the billions of weed addicts !!!
@@kendrastoner4435 are you still living in your van ?
She is a crack up ! That is a great set up and good to see a young person out doing her own thing .
Haha thank you Mikey!!
You are a boss! Actually your video thumbnail looked so cozy I had to click on it. You set it up extremely well--very functional. Shout out to smart girls who wear glasses! You go girl!!!
Kendra, you have such a bubbly personality! And a positive attitude which is needed for this sort of lifestyle. Good luck with all your adventures! Tiger.
Super envious of this lifestyle. I never really feel like I fit in anywhere and being able to drive away to whatever new area until it clicks sounds like a dream, but I know that would just be a source of neverending anxiety. Van Life probably isn't for me, but I'm definitely making notes for my future tiny home. Keep on keepin' on, Kendra!
Thank you for sharing your journey, your knowledge, and a little bit of you . . it's been a pleasure seeing such joy and enthusiasm for life, and the lifestyle.
Best of everything always to you!
I live in a van, my total monthly outgoings are: £25 for internet and £45 for insurance, obviously there are a few other expenses that crop up. Repairs, tyres etc but if your looking to save money, you’ll save a ton! And it’s just so easy, it’s nice to be able to go to new places and just leave when you get fed up, there’s literally nothing hard about it for me.
Love your van and personality!! Smiles peace love and light to you 🙏🏾
Sense of freedom is the best feeling!
AMAZING set up . I've been watching a bunch of these videos today trying to get some inspiration , and its fascinating to see everyone's take on what they consider " essentials ". Minimalism is an art form . I hope to be stable enough to head across country in the coming year or so ** SIDE NOTE ** I can't even watch an informational video without stumbling upon rude comments made towards women. Gentleman, your mothers raised you better. Alright? Alright.
What a sweet girl. So genuine. I wish her well.
The van seems unique as the owner.
Both pretty cool in a different kind of way.
Thanks Robin! I think I'm pretty alright hahah!
@@kendrastoner4435
I think you are too. Let me know if you take up archeology. I will volunteer to be your living fossil.
Oh my goodness she is so adorable and funny!! I love her energy
This van is next level... amazing
Super decked out!
It's German built. They no joke when they make something. 😆
Thank you!!
Kendra Stoner Are there other vans exactly like this, or is it custom? I would love to have this model!!
Its good she dont have any propane bombs ....
Shes seems so happy and free.
Very well done, she is very smart, for sure. I'm tired of the stress of the city, going van life in 2020.
alf vasquez me too man. If we all did the government wouldn’t know what to do lmao wishing luck to u on your journey
Think me too 2020, found a real good deal on Craigslist it's awesome.
Your van fits you perfect...nice! Here's my story...I bought a Volkswagen van in 1973 in Phoenix Arizona and driving up the hill to Flagstaff (my home) it went 25 miles an hour, top speed on the last big long hill. Mind you in 100 miles it went from 2000 feet elevation to 7000 feet elevation. I pictured myself as a big lollipop like on the cartoons...sucker🍭. That said; an old girlfriend of mine put 15,000 miles on it that summer and toured all over the west. I spent $300 on a rebuilt engine but not a penny on hotels. That was a fun summer and my last VW Van. It was a lot easier to park overnight back in the 70s.
Did she mention fueling up at her parent's when she wants. That's always nice isn't it.
sweet so awesome and another great video Forrest! love it
I cant wait for vanlife. Whats meant to be will be, cool can cool girl!
I love this young lady's attitude. She is a sweet heart, and she is really pretty..😄😄
I Love Your Positive Outlook on Life! 😊
hahaha I absolutely love this video..love your attitude..it was really fun watching this..thank you
Thanks Tennille
This is one of the better one, and is relaxed! Also I liked that you tell me about how you started, and how you have went with too much and then realized what you needed. So I get that and I am sure I am going to learn that as I get on. Thank you!!
It is nice to have that van and park near the lake or on the beach.
I love her cardigan
irmawati febriani thank you!
A very unique dream catcher with all the feathers and the doily!
Thank you! I made it
So cool!
LOVE your van! Pretty much one of my dream scenarios! Don't get too much choice like that out here in Ontario.
Come to the west coast Cate! Hehehe
interesting what you just said "always on the run". I travelled for 6 years on this globe, just backsmacking and saw a lot of leeches trying to extend their stay and some running away from the sorrow they left behind. Also, saw some people that did settle down after all these years of backbackng and living freely, earning money and doing their thing. It is all good as long as you are free in your head.
I miss my Westie. Mine was a 74' and I loved it. The time was coming for repairs tho' and I could afford them but let me tell ya, the fellow that got, got an extremely good deal and now looking back, I could have fixed it. Makes me sad but life is good now I guess. No Westie but I do have a van, but not camperized. Love Kendra's attitude!!
Yeah the value of these westies seems to be consistently going up, are you planning on camperizing your current van sometime?
I would like to kinda make it for weekend warrior stuff. It's too small to fully camperize, well, maybe not too small, lots of been done but if I were to live full time in a van, it would definitely have to be bigger or at least have all the comforts of home.
So did you here from Chrome? He is thinking of a meet up at Phillips in November? His plans change a lot but it would be nice to see everyone again.
Yeah the mini van is a bit of a squeeze. I'll actually be building one out this November for my self if all goes well and hop back into van life (sorta you will see haha)
Haven't heard anything about another meetup with chrome, but I'll shoot him a message
Thank you!
I like her!
Living life on your own terms: You-Go-Girl !!!! 😎😉
She is so cool!
She reminds me of Elizabeth Lail, from “You”
Very engaging young lady and I love her approach to life 😊
Thank you!
Love this video. Very inspiring
....She's so right to have the mindset about "life" to look at it as an "incredible journey". It shows in her actions and comments. We can all learn so much from her versus being too 'plugged into' media bombardment of daily news. She's totally broken free from the 'treadmill' in my opinion.
@@jusayenso8186 That's a fact
@@fredoknowsbest ....Although she has a genuine magnetic personality and good looks too, she wouldn't sell out and be a bubble headed bleach blonde news anchor. "Time" and connecting dots is a great teacher of truth. Not one of the last 1,000 well known "stuffed suit" well known news anchors ever retired to this brutally humane lifestyle. Do the math. It tells the real "breaking news report" about teaching hampsters to stay on their hampster wheel.
Hehehehe..God forbid I go into detailed analysis of nepotism in their industry (percentages!) and much more. As much as I accomplished, I learn so much more (verification, mostly) from "peons" like her than all major media hosts. Hmmmm....obviously, tv ratings prove most people think otherwise...too funny!...but so sad too. Image rules the peons in society.
You're my kind of outdoor woman😁
I love your outlook on life. Please follow your your dreams! Go for it!!!!
This is a wonderful van!!
Cool German made van, and your free lifestyle is great. Enjoy it.
Thank you! So far I sure am!
I love the way you live especially the van too it's awesome. I'm on the island also in Victoria
the little fairy lady hi Willow!

Nice camper. My first camper was a VW bus. I then moved up to a VW camper. Today I have a Dodge 350 Road Track. I didn't realize propane would be a problem crossing the border. I'll have to remember that. Fortunately, I also have an alcohol stove so I can disconnect the propane, and leave it behind, if I head up to Canada.
Awesome Betty!
you shouldn't have a problem with the propane and the border...may have to turn it of but i doubt it...it has to be off on the ferry to the island...that's about it
Awesome way of living! Honestly inspires me so much I have always been so intrigued with living this type of lifestyle.
Did she say her last name was Stoner? Lol that's awesome? 👍🌲🔥💨
She's So Cute!!! Awesome Van by the way!!!
Sick rig sister !!!
You outdid yourself !!!
Now im going to make some coffee lol
Robert Holmes hahah enjoy!
Sounds great so long as you’re saving for your retirement.
True that!
Any amount of rent saved can go towards retirement
@@bfranco1519 I do.
I love it...I’m really wanting to do this myself. You are much lovelier than Uma Thurman but you do remind me of her...a bit! Thank you for sharing!
Yes, I was wondering why she looks so familiar 😆
Hahah! I get Uma Thurman so often. Thank you Michele
Kendra Stoner absolutely! Really, I enjoyed every minute of your video and usually, I have difficulty staying the entire time! Follow your bliss!
oh, neat ! she hung a fire-catcher above her stove ! 😋
I have the T5..not high top..my tdi is wonderful in terms of miles per gallon and speed..now in long term covered parking at the US air base in Germany. But, van life is great when in the sunshine...play safe..
Iced tea and plumbing two of my vices. I enjoy the share but I could never live this way. Thanks for sharing.
She's a very smart woman and beautiful . Living her dream and her life which is a adventure . Good 4 u
Really love the dream catcher directly above the stove.
What type of work do you do online? Remote. Yes van life is not all Rose's. When you are pooping in a bucket that part is never shown.!! Lol I think more important it can get lonely, hard to invite people, friends over! When it rains you are cooped up! For me a long weekend or week trip is the max in a van. That's what they were designed for.
Wow nice rig👍
Very neat, concise and organized! Some people's customized Vans and or RVs are like dumpsters on a good day.
Thank you! Honestly, that set up was pretty messy for what I'm used to haha!
I'm on the hunt for my van. I miss my house on wheels. You have a great attitude. ✌️
Hey Forrest Stevens!!! Kendra has a nice setup and what appears to be a nice personality to go along with it. STAY Warm and SAFE in your travels, Be careful out there and Thank you for sharing.
I think i have a pretty nice personality too. Hahaha! Thanks John!
Hey Kendra! You are quite welcome. Yes, I can tell (personality). I went looking for some more of your online presence after watching this but it looks like you do a UA-cam video once a year, so you're due real soon. LoL I try to prepare myself for the day if maybe I'll run into some of these VanLifers once I get out there in a year or so. I've never been north of the U.S (although I've been out of the country several times) but Canada is definitely gonna get ventured into. STAY SAFE and warm, be careful out there and Thank you for sharing.😊👍🏽
Awesomeness! Well feel free to reach out when you plan to take van life here
Will do Kendra .😊👍🏽
Dream Catcher Over Stove = NIGHTMARE!!! COOL VAN THOUGH👍
The same as for every other traveler and home-dweller. It ain’t no thang🙏🏻
Heck no!
Why can’t I seem to find a simplistic woman like this in my life. Im a down to earth guy that hates being around tons of people aka the city life and just wants to stay to myself and wondering if their is women out there like that. Now I see many like this in van and rv life and Im like.... IM IN LOVE LMAO. Was married for 16 years and I divorced her as it just wasn’t meant to be. My current woman is a extrovert and I was a extrovert during my teen and early 20’s but late in my 30’s now and Im full blown introvert now. I don’t like people in my house visiting and don’t like going out to crowded public places and the less people around the better for my anxiety issues. Its a very big challenge being with extroverts thats for sure. Wish I could just meet a woman like me that doesn’t have that need for contact with people 24/7. Just her and I living life to ourselves with minimal other human contact. Too many women of today that I’ve only been around through out my life that always has to have tons of guy friends and its like one guy is never enough to be around for them. I don’t have that need for other females being around or having tons of female friends. One Love is all I need. I was born in the wrong time I guess lol. People are way to social now. Its why infidelity is happening at a rampant pace. Divorce rates at a all time high. Its cause we have too much freedom to be around the opposite sex and the opposite sex is here to always mate. I’m also alpha male like lions in the wild, I don’t like other males around my female. So its good to minimize contact to prevent that. Anyways, I bought a 1980 30 foot Chevy southwind rv last year for $1,700 and was living in it for well over 4 months parking at walmart parking lots here and there, rv parks that were affordable. Im new to all this so its been a learning curve having such a huge rv to start out with. Done lots of work to it since buying it to. Sealing the whole roof, water damage inside that had to be repaired from water leaks from the roof and sides. That was not fun as I never did that stuff before and had no clue where to start but got it all done the best I could. Thank goodness the rv was owned by a Semi mechanic cause it has low miles at 66 thousand and runs like new when it cranked and warmed up. Its a beast to drive as its all over the place but runs fine. Stubborn to crank when cold but that tends to be all old chevys on cold starts. Its a 454 Big block so its a gas guzzler like no other but I love it. Its like a small sized trailer on wheels and can go anywhere I want with it. Its parked now as we got a house to rent and now stored the rv but I miss living in it as it saves money big time. Way cheaper than renting but having a full shower and constant power of a home does spoil ya. Being on mental disability from my anxiety, bipolar and social phobia issues makes it easier to live on the go in a rv or van life to. Definitely makes the money stretch further thats for sure. If it werent for my disabled woman that is also mentally on disability as well as we met at mental health group over 4 years ago, but if it werent for us going half and half on all bills I would be in that rv again thats for sure. SSI sure as hell is hard to rent a home and pay other bills just on income less than 800 a month. Cost of living is expensive on us thats for sure. Anyways power to ya guys that are currently out there living in rvs and vans. I love that life and miss it. I hate being stuck in one place. In a rv or van its go where ya want. No rent unless your at rv parks but you don’t have to be. Its free choice. Can’t have that much freedom with a renting contract or owning a home.
Did you say, denatured alcohol? What is that? Where do you store it? Or how do you buy it? I've never heard of it as you can tell. But anything getting away from something that could blow up I'm for!
Barbara Mowrey yes, denatured alcohol. It’s a type of fuel. You pour it into my stove pods and you can purchase it at some hardware stores.
Great little van
Thanks!
