  • Kendra lives in her 1994 volksvagon westfalia with a converted hightop. This video is a look into her life and why she decided vanlife is for her, and a tour of her Van home. Minimalism is something Kendra was always drawn too and when she found this van it felt right for her to just move into it and start traveling, she ended up living in squamish and tofino throughout the summer in her van. Her instagram bio says she is just an island chick doing her thing in a van named Penelope, and that sounds pretty accurate! So please enjoy this mini documentary which is a look into the life of solo female van dweller!

@Rebecca Swilling, what do you think that allot of those dudes in those 18 wheelers are doing?
Allot of the guys driving those 18 wheelers are basically homeless living in a truck, only they can’t really go do whatever they want whenever they want because:
1: stereotyping - no body wants to see a big truck anywhere near them even when bobtailing and allot of folks think that truckers are not exactly people.
2: it is primarily a job, as of late over-regulated and grossly underpaid, and you go where the (very cheap) freight takes you, not where you’d like to go. (stop trucking for 3 days and the world, your market places and gas stations, would go post apocalyptic. yeah, food and toiletries don’t just miraculously appear on store shelves, and the fuel for your cars and RVs it’s not just springing from under the ground underneath the gas stations )
3: no access on allot of roads because of weight and size limitations and no access to camping sites because of the fact that it’s considered a “commercial vehicle” even when not engaged in commercial activities, and also this classification makes you a big target for cops and the DoT everywhere you go. (they look at you as a cash cow for some reason)
So yea, there are allot of dudes living life on wheels completely solo 24/7/365 and getting old looking at the world through a darn windshield at 70 Mi/h, and also allot of nasty truck stop parking lots at 0 Mi/h.
My dream is to be able one day to get the F off the land and away from people and go bob on the great saltwater deserts on a sailing catamaran. However savage the oceans are, I think that they’re allot more welcoming than the world full of greed and scavengers !

I have seen a few van life videos by now but I liked your approach to van life the best. You haven't tried to turn your van into a designer home. It is the way it should be. Your happiness is very clear and reflects in the way you talk unlike the psycho babble of some van lifers. Keep it up and be safe.

Kendra Stoner I’m glad it has been a breeze. Western WA can be interesting- everyone I know has had their vehicles stolen at least once. One never got recovered. I consider myself lucky that only three of my vehicles had windows broken to steal camping equipment and cameras. Compared to Seattle and its suburbs , New York was safe😆.. And theft at trailhead parking lots is a big problem. Which reminds me- I have to glue covers over the screws on the license plates to discourage theft.

I love my kids so much but I am so tired of being a parent. We have a small trailer we pimped out for boondocking and that helps us through spring summer and fall. Winter is long. We used to go to Florida for 3 weeks but our border is closed so I applaud you for being independant and resourceful.

Repairs, tyres etc but if your looking to save money, you’ll save a ton! And it’s just so easy, it’s nice to be able to go to new places and just leave when you get fed up, there’s literally nothing hard about it for me.

Your van fits you perfect...nice! Here's my story...I bought a Volkswagen van in 1973 in Phoenix Arizona and driving up the hill to Flagstaff (my home) it went 25 miles an hour, top speed on the last big long hill. Mind you in 100 miles it went from 2000 feet elevation to 7000 feet elevation. I pictured myself as a big lollipop like on the cartoons...sucker🍭. That said; an old girlfriend of mine put 15,000 miles on it that summer and toured all over the west. I spent $300 on a rebuilt engine but not a penny on hotels. That was a fun summer and my last VW Van. It was a lot easier to park overnight back in the 70s.

I travelled for 6 years on this globe, just backsmacking and saw a lot of leeches trying to extend their stay and some running away from the sorrow they left behind. What type of work do you do online? Remote. Yes van life is not all Rose's. When you are pooping in a bucket that part is never shown.!! Lol I think more important it can get lonely, hard to invite people, friends over! When it rains you are cooped up! For me a long weekend or week trip is the max in a van. That's what they were designed for.

Hey Kendra! You are quite welcome. Yes, I can tell (personality). I went looking for some more of your online presence after watching this but it looks like you do a UA-cam video once a year, so you're due real soon. LoL I try to prepare myself for the day if maybe I'll run into some of these VanLifers once I get out there in a year or so. I've never been north of the U.S (although I've been out of the country several times) but Canada is definitely gonna get ventured into. STAY SAFE and warm, be careful out there and Thank you for sharing.😊👍🏽

Why can’t I seem to find a simplistic woman like this in my life. Im a down to earth guy that hates being around tons of people aka the city life and just wants to stay to myself and wondering if their is women out there like that. Now I see many like this in van and rv life and Im like.... IM IN LOVE LMAO. Was married for 16 years and I divorced her as it just wasn’t meant to be. My current woman is a extrovert and I was a extrovert during my teen and early 20’s but late in my 30’s now and Im full blown introvert now. I don’t like people in my house visiting and don’t like going out to crowded public places and the less people around the better for my anxiety issues. Its a very big challenge being with extroverts thats for sure. Wish I could just meet a woman like me that doesn’t have that need for contact with people 24/7. Just her and I living life to ourselves with minimal other human contact. Too many women of today that I’ve only been around through out my life that always has to have tons of guy friends and its like one guy is never enough to be around for them. I don’t have that need for other females being around or having tons of female friends. One Love is all I need. I was born in the wrong time I guess lol. People are way to social now. Its why infidelity is happening at a rampant pace. Divorce rates at a all time high. Its cause we have too much freedom to be around the opposite sex and the opposite sex is here to always mate. I’m also alpha male like lions in the wild, I don’t like other males around my female. So its good to minimize contact to prevent that. Anyways, I bought a 1980 30 foot Chevy southwind rv last year for $1,700 and was living in it for well over 4 months parking at walmart parking lots here and there, rv parks that were affordable. Im new to all this so its been a learning curve having such a huge rv to start out with. Done lots of work to it since buying it to. Sealing the whole roof, water damage inside that had to be repaired from water leaks from the roof and sides. That was not fun as I never did that stuff before and had no clue where to start but got it all done the best I could. Thank goodness the rv was owned by a Semi mechanic cause it has low miles at 66 thousand and runs like new when it cranked and warmed up. Its a beast to drive as its all over the place but runs fine. Stubborn to crank when cold but that tends to be all old chevys on cold starts. Its a 454 Big block so its a gas guzzler like no other but I love it. Its like a small sized trailer on wheels and can go anywhere I want with it. Its parked now as we got a house to rent and now stored the rv but I miss living in it as it saves money big time. Way cheaper than renting but having a full shower and constant power of a home does spoil ya. Being on mental disability from my anxiety, bipolar and social phobia issues makes it easier to live on the go in a rv or van life to. Definitely makes the money stretch further thats for sure. If it werent for my disabled woman that is also mentally on disability as well as we met at mental health group over 4 years ago, but if it werent for us going half and half on all bills I would be in that rv again thats for sure. SSI sure as hell is hard to rent a home and pay other bills just on income less than 800 a month. Cost of living is expensive on us thats for sure. Anyways power to ya guys that are currently out there living in rvs and vans. I love that life and miss it. I hate being stuck in one place. In a rv or van its go where ya want. No rent unless your at rv parks but you don’t have to be. Its free choice. Can’t have that much freedom with a renting contract or owning a home.

Did you say, denatured alcohol? What is that? Where do you store it? Or how do you buy it? I've never heard of it as you can tell. But anything getting away from something that could blow up I'm for!

Barbara Mowrey yes, denatured alcohol. It’s a type of fuel. You pour it into my stove pods and you can purchase it at some hardware stores.
