This song pretty much screams Vernon! The strong 2000’s pop punk Avril Lavigne vibe ❤the mv is beautiful, he sounds and looks amazing, and the message of the song is so powerful❤
This is exactly what I expected from Vernon. As someone who's been a Carat sine 2015/2016, Vernon's style has been so consistent yet maturing at the same time, and when I knew he was going to release a mixtape I was so excited. It matches the taste of music I grew up with. The only pity is that he didn't have the time to slot in a special music stage at MCountdown like Woozi and Hoshi previously. Tbh if Vernon ever releases an album someday of his own, I'll listen to it religiously. He did so well!
He surprised me with this I thought he was going hiphop. But he went punk rock and rebellious he looked soo freaking good and sounded good I love him and all of seventeen 👏🤟👍
i am so grateful to see vernon come alive in this music video. the song just screams his own colours, the visuals are so close to his persona and what he likes and i cannot believe we are witnessing every single one of them embracing their own artistic freedom in such a mesmerising and brilliant way.

I love Vernon and his way of thinking. Aside from him being my bias/favorite member in Seventeen, I think his outlook on life is something I have appreciated over time. His growth as a person and musician, it really shows in the attention to detail he puts in any form of music production. You can kind of tell his inspo from Avril Lavigne and other alt/rock artists too. It's amazing to see and I think this rock genre fits him super well :)

But I got emotional with this video because it is like a movie and it hits the contradictory nature of loneliness and depression on the nose [insert black eye joke here]. I am all about storytelling. 100% my thing and any music video that visually tells a story is immediately on my favorites list. I don't know that I would say I liked Black Eye more than Spider... but they're close. For sure.

This sort of thing was the moment back then: the 00s I-hate-the-world-and-in-constant-pain EMO sound after the crushing dominance of grunge of the 90s. It was so commercially available, that they used music like this for the soundtracks of teen romcoms. It is so evocative - especially for the older fans of popular commercial music who remember this type of music at its most pervasive.
As a dolly myself since Mansae era (2015) i have loved Vernon and his work for the longest time now… and i love every single song he puts out, Lotto / Bands Boy / Black Eye, i love Vernon’s versality as an artist and he’s showing us that he can do any type and genre of music from a very hardcore rap song/hiphop from a poppy song to pop punk song… he’s just a whole package and i already appreciated Black eye as it is but your commentary made me love and appreciate it even more if thats even possible… 🤍
