one of the best comments our paediatrician made was that most babies hate getting swaddled but love being swaddled. That was 100% true for us, swaddling was one of the best things for my little one. But she hated the process, pretty much as intensely as she loved the result.

So glad I could help. Look into online classes too. My hospital has switched to zoom childbirth edu classes. If you still feel like you are missing some info, online classes can be really useful!

If it helps at all, my childbirth classes made me feel more confident but I didn't use any of the tips/tricks I learned in the class.
I think your instincts just take over.

I’m so glad you mentioned it being normal to not have that instant attachment and love for your baby. I felt no connection when I was pregnant, tho I was very excited to finally be a mom. It took until her first yawn for me to actually feel a connection (not sure why). Now I’m absolutely obsessed with her since I’ve had a month of bonding so far 💚

Same here. Excited but feeling nothing for my first son. It took me 4 hours to feel the connection, after the labor I only saw him twice for a few seconds and then they brought him to me after 4 hours where I start to feel things. It's ok,at first we don't truly realise what is going on

Don't worry too much, I was in the same boat. I am 30 weeks now approx and, whilst I'm not excited, I do feel calm and accepting. Try not to worry or I think the stress will affect you getting 'into It. As my friend said, it's hard to be excited by something you don't know, so give yourself time :)

    • @amberskyesobers7288

@@aniya113 I didn't start to get attached until I started feeling him really kick and roll and punch. Being able to feel his actual feet and stuff. But we wanted a baby. It seems like there is a point for most mothers, who aren't narcissists and stuff, where they'll connect. I still feel somewhat disconnected because he's right there, but he feels so far away.

Your nurse is what can make or break your hospital experience, what your nurse is like makes a bigger difference then who your doctor is (baring complications you almost never even see your doctor until it is time to push) six hospital births and I have had good and bad nurses (clueless or indifferent may be a better word then bad) and your labor and delivery nurse, postpartum nurse make such a big difference. You sound like one of the best, knowledgeable and compassionate.

I tried swaddling with regular blankets for my newborn. He hates his arms swaddled and always manages to wiggle out of the even tightest wrap. Those halo sleep sacs saved my life. I can leave his arms out so he is more comfortable and I know he won’t wiggle out of the velcro maintaining a safe sleep environment in his basset.

My youngest child is 14 years old and it still hurts my heart that he had to go straight to the NICU immediately after birth so I missed out on skin to skin and the first big breastfeeding session. I was very nervous that he wasn't going to breastfeed well since we were several days delayed (and this was my 1st attempt at nursing a baby. I bottle fed my older child). But to my surprise, we had no issues. I ended up breastfeeding him until he was 2 years old then he weaned himself. 😪 I still had a ton of breast milk in the freezer so he drank it out of a cup until it was gone. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world!! 💖

Due in two weeks with my second. I can honestly say you are so right about that overwhelming love feeling not being there in the beginning for some. Everyone in the room was overjoyed and crying when I gave birth to my first except me. I was on what I call autopilot.she was born and felt like ok, my responsibility is officially here. The butterflies and warm fuzzy feeling didn’t come until months later for me.

Hello! I am not even a mom and not pregnant but I really enjoy videos like this, they are very informative and I think nurses are great, thank you for educating us :)

I absolutely love your videos and how honest you are! I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby and your advice has been very helpful and calming. I'm in transition of switching obgyn because the one I was seeing left me feeling so depressed. He pretty much fat shamed me for how much weight I've gained during my pregnancy. He spewed a lot of worst case scenarios at me including an unavailable C-section, me bleeding out, having my "vagina fall out later", and even having a brain dead baby. He told me I was a failure in my pregnancy which really just made me shut down. He reassured me I wouldn't be able to lose weight between now and my due date. His words just keep replaying in my head but I'm trying to be optimistic. I just hope my next obgyn is as helpful and informative as you are.

Thank you for your last message!!! I’m 28weeks and one of the people who never planned or wanted children, but here we are... My husband is super excited, while I really can’t get too many warm feelings (especially after 22 weeks of hyperemesis gravidarum). I really needed someone to say that! Thank you again!

I gave birth a couple days ago to #5 and had a natural birth despite needing pitocin. I didn't make a sound and my nurse was impressed how good I did. I love your videos so much, they helped me with my experience.

Thank you for telling new mommas it's ok to not immediately feel the overwhelming love that is often described. Sometimes, you have to get to know that little person face to face and fall in love with them. It's not always easy and hormones do not help sometimes.

Thank you for your videos Nurse Zabe! I had my baby in October and I remember being in early labor, in the bathtub to try and ease my back pain, listening to your video about what to pack in your hospital bag. Your videos helped keep me calm and feel prepared.

Your videos have been a God send! Your soothing and calming voice help me relax and fall a sleep at night. I suppose it helps my little Peanut as well so he may come out expecting to hear your voice once I deliver!(lol). I'm 31 weeks and unfortunately found out our little guy has a DORV with pulmonary atresia. I am already prepared knowing he will have to spend some time in the NICU but your videos have really helped comfort and prepare me for what to expect when we finally get to bring him home . Thank you so much for posting these videos. All of us new mama bears appreciate it !

I needed this, thank you so much! I just had my first child two months ago and I hear everyone speak of this magical moment when they place the baby on you, but boy that was not my experience. Of coarse I love him SO MUCH but I didn’t have that initial feeling and I have definitely felt guilty about it. I’m so thankful for your videos because they have helped me a ton!!! You rock!!!🥰👍🏼

As a PP nurse I LOVE this video, you answered the questions I get every single shift. I find that a lot of parents did research on babies but not the first 24 hours and that really throws them for a loop.

So happy I found your channel, I got no helpful information when I had my first son, I thought he had something wrong with his heart when he had blue-ish feet and hands, I was so terrified of birth that I didn't take any classes which I regret, I am currently 10.5 weeks pregnant and trying to get all the info I can this time around, because not knowing was the most stressful thing in the world, it made me feel like a really bad mother and the anxiety contributed to post natal depression, I wish I could have you for my midwife, you are so lovely,💖
