Hot take. This game is not as bad as people make it out to be. It does look pretty dated by today's standards, but you can tell a lot of ambition went into the project. It actually kinda reminds me of Dark Souls in a weird way. It also does some unique things with the Castlevania formula that haven't been done ever again, like the slight puzzle elements. Maybe it would be better if it was out on the Playstation instead. Still tho. A modern remake of this game would be absolutely fantastic. Cuz this game has potential. Like a diamond in the rough.

Sotn, aria of sorrow, hod, Rondo of blood etc, willl always be my top favorites. But one cool thing is that the 64 games, use Vampires as a common opponent, instead of a boss battle in very few games. Unfortunately this still isn’t the game that the Devs intended.

So every weird and fantastic enemy in the fictional world of castlevania is acceptable, but a skeleton on a motorcycle not? For a game that takes place in the 19th century, a motorcycle it's not even farfetched since theHildebrand & Wolfmüller was invented in 1894. Look it up. Other then that, the game has enough problems.
I think having a bunch of skeletons on motorcycles isn't really the reason why people dislike these games. It's just a easy way to say "this game sucks". If it was a great classic, the motorcycle thing was taken for a grain of salt.
I don't think it's as bad as people say. Legacy of Darkness is the better version and isn't that much different then other action/horror games from that era that had the same issues with camera and controls. What I call a bad game is more like Superman 64, Daikatana and Carmageddon on N64. Castlevania 64/LOD has enough strong elements like story and good atmosphere. Sure the music isn't as iconic as SOTN or SC4 but it's a different kind of soundtrack. More ambience and atmospheric. These games are not one of my all time favorites for sure. My favorite castlevania is still Super Castlevania IV. But C64 isn't bad either. It's easy to step on the bandwagon and call something bad only because it has a bad rep. Tomb Raider had clunky controls but that's a classic game right there.
I played this years ago, before the twin towers fell I think… and watching this feels like yesterday but so long ago… it’s so strange and uncomfortable
Fun fact, the narrator is none other than Scott McCulloch, the original VA for Richter Belmont in SotN. Which means that Richter himself is narrating the events of C64. And if we’re going by dates, Richter would be 79 years old.
I remember playing this game, I was always so thrilled! Never seen a thing like that before in that time. Although I also remember turning off the N64 cause of that lightning at the beginning lol
1:43:16 all I could think to keep shouting during the giant zombie bull fight was ‘eat some meat, dammit!’ You sure do know how to keep the suspense going!! 👍🏻👍🏻😱
Just remake this in Switch/3DS/PSVita, repair the camera and whip controllers, replace the motorcycles with zombie horses, add more areas and bosses and Voilà! You've got one of the best Castlevania games of all time.
If you ever have the chance to play it, jump straight to the prequel "Legacy of Darkness". It has CV64's playable characters as unlockables to play through their story modes. Some level layouts have changed, though. Reinhardt's Duel Tower ha a save point and the pillars in Carrie's underground waterway are bigger, while the silent forest is different from the original. New bosses and levels were also added. So, if you havn't watched it, yet, go watch a playthrough for Cornell and Henry from Legacy of Darkness. ;)

I think having a bunch of skeletons on motorcycles isn't really the reason why people dislike these games. It's just a easy way to say "this game sucks". If it was a great classic, the motorcycle thing was taken for a grain of salt.
@@Stefandorf it just sucks I dont really know what but it just feels bad and looks bad and smells bad and tastes bad and sounds bad
This game is so scary,I love it so much ❤
I played this years ago, before the twin towers fell I think… and watching this feels like yesterday but so long ago… it’s so strange and uncomfortable
2:29:20 Carrie's like I have to fight that? FML
Best video game of all time, period.
yobaseen21 Right!
Yea!!!
Bloodlines and IV were better in my opinion
cant compare 2d games with 3d, its a totally different experiencie
Meh, its ok.
the vampire woman scared me to DEATH
Fun fact, the narrator is none other than Scott McCulloch, the original VA for Richter Belmont in SotN. Which means that Richter himself is narrating the events of C64. And if we’re going by dates, Richter would be 79 years old.
The skeletons have the same audio sample they use for Spinal in killer instinct lol
I remember playing this game, I was always so thrilled! Never seen a thing like that before in that time. Although I also remember turning off the N64 cause of that lightning at the beginning lol
I remember how scary it was playing as a kid. Sh*t got real at night 😂😂
Lol 🤣 👍
the closing theme of the necronomicon is so much more satisfying in this than in "legacy of darkness".
That vampire woman got me lmao! 51:45
You've got one of the best Castlevania games of all time.
lol yeah sure "of all time" lol
Or at least bring the original game to the Switch Online Service Expansion Pack
I remember I couldn't play this game as a kid cuz I was too scared. I wish Nintendo would re-release this for the Switch.
Switch released a collection, its not on it?
@@k-dogg9086 I have no clue, but I’m gonna check it out now.
@@JuniAku yes let us know too
@@k-dogg9086 it is not available on The Switch collection 🥲
@@JuniAku oh too bad!
This game takes place in 1852, but they have skeletons on motorcycles.😂😂. ah. the logic
HBNSR Reacts dracula has sciences you couldnt even fathom!
You sure it wasnt 1952? Cuz then it would
The Angry Video Game Nerd even pointed that out
Hence the term “fantasy sci-fi”.
It was a skeleton from the future
Bro the beginning especially with the closing of the book omg!!!
I loved this game! Definitely getting a 64 this year.
This game freaked the hell out of me as a kid. Everything about this game was pure nightmare fuel to me
I really missed this game, The best game of vampires ever! I wish I could play it again on the Nintendo Switch
get an emulater on your smart phone
This,Mario 64 , wave race and 1080 all remastered for switch. I wish
No way!!!! Haha!! This game is trash.
wow. look at that pasted-on moon. couldn't they have trimmed the black borders?
Underrated.
This game looks awesome. I missed out on this sort of stuff because I was a PS1 owner as a youngster.
So, if you havn't watched it, yet, go watch a playthrough for Cornell and Henry from Legacy of Darkness. ;)
@@Externica that sounds awesome! Didn't know they brought it back on Legacy!
This is one of my favorite Nintendo 64 games I absolutely LOVE it ❤
i would love this game on nintendo switch i would paly it all day
