I was surprised how much oil this small engine holds, my van had 30k miles when i got it, i immediately switched it to amsoil and wix filters, im also running amsoil all in 1 fuel treatment
Are you happy with the amsoil? I am planning on changing the oil soon in the new van and am on the fence about sticking with the mercedes recommended oil
@@ramblingambition 100% , other than improved protection, it also extends the service intervals, I'll change it every 15k miles now, which is 5k under amsoils guarantee of 20k miles.. and the fuel additive makes a noticeable improvement on the smoothness of the engine, and I think I've even gained a small amount in MPG, im waiting for an order now, so I can change the differential fluid and transmission/ transfer case fluids, pricing isn't much more if you're willing to wait a few days for shipping, well worth it imo
Thank you, I will bring the motor up to operating temp first before i change it to circulate it, but i will let it cool down to a temp that will not burn me when i change it
With full synthetic oil mercedes recommends 10k on these motors and they have been around since 2007 in the vans without issues, anyone can choose to change their oil on an earlier interval if they feel it is necessary
@@ramblingambition Mercedes "recommends" is the key word, it's just recommendation. I have 5 Mercedes Diesels out of which 2 are Sprinters different generations and the good rule of thumb( based on 2 decades of experience and talking to a lot of mechanics) is whatever manufacture recommends cut in half if you planning to keep it until the wheels fall off. But you are right, you can do whatever you wish, it was just friendly recommendation. Cheers.
Thanks for the tips.
Absolutely thanks for watching the video!

@Liimpy awesome thanks!
Hi, thanks for the vid, im only at 3:16, do you heat up your oil first?

Great info. 25 Nm is about 18.5 foot pounds though.
Thanks!
What if I do not have a torque wrench? Can I just snug it like in a normal vehicle change
You can, thats exactly what i did for years, but if you plan on doing work yourself, they are a great investment
Question; is the filter wrench/socket 84mm 14flute?
Yes thats correct, 84 mm with 14 faces to engage the cap
@@ramblingambition Oh shoot. You did mention it. Must have ff when you brought up the list at the beginning of your clip. Thanks for the reply
@ggdw6531 no worries! All good info and all good questions, happy to help
Good video, but I didn't get was it a 0W30 weight or what you used?
Thank you depending on climate you can use 0w30 or 5w30 i think most use 5w30 full synthetic with the mercedes spec 229.51 and .52
Great video. But man you must be 7 feet tall, comparing your height to the hood on that van!
Haha, Great Guess I am 6’10”
My dealer said 20 Thousand miles!
WOW
My goodness thats is not a recommendation I would follow!
20,000 miles is correct, but I personally change mine at 10,000 as done in video.
I would go 5k if you plan on having it forever
My mechanic says 7500
One of his clients went over 900,000 miles
@johnspoelder6630 thanks for the comment
Do yourself a favor if you care about longevity of this engine, oil change every 5K max!
