I understand that for some people the music scenes may seem too much, but that was literally the purpose of this movie, it was the last musical, the last movie, it was supposed to be big and extra lol
She wasn’t mad that he didn’t ask big enough. She was mad that he hadn’t asked at all. When it comes to things like prom, you can’t just assume that the person you’re dating is going to go with you. Tickets cost money, so do dresses, renting limos, etc. so it can be bad for the guys to assume their going and spring it on their girlfriends last minute because then the girls have to scramble to find dresses, shoes, make hair appointments, etc.
@@vampg8r I had a friend who missed out on prom because her bf just assumed they were going. She didn’t have a dress, shoes, anything. And he waited to long to grab tickets and they were sold out. That’s why it’s important to ask early and be on top of it
but...they're dating? Or it's assumed they're bf/gf, so it is assumed. I mean, Troy did the same thing with Gabriella, he just showed her the tickets. And he clearly knew she was going cause they're in the same friend group so he would have heard them all talking about it.
I feel like “Sharpay’s fabulous adventure” definitely makes up for her lack of character development in the high school musical trilogy. It’s even probably the reason why she got the solo movie.
Fun fact: Christopher Nolan loved what Kenny Ortega did with Troy's scene in Scream with the rotating sequence that he decided to put that into his film Inception.
I think you guys are overthinking it. It’s SUPPOSE to be over the top, it’s SUPPOSE to be a spectacle. They just had the money to actually execute the theatrics this time especially since it was the last hurrah. I will agree that the story wasn’t that strong but I will defend the musical numbers whole heartedly! They’re not necessarily suppose to be “grounded and realistic” that’s not necessarily what theater is!!
I mean just because it was “supposed” to be that way doesn’t mean that they have to like the movie because of it. I also didn’t care for this movie because it felt overproduced compared to the first two. It lost its charm. But I can see why HSM3 is a fan favorite amongst fans
At least they both have the same mindset about high school love... It would've been sad if one of them thought they'd be forever while the other doesn't have much hope for high school love to last long lmao
I get your point about the musical numbers but respectfully disagree. I don't think think they forgot the point and think they realised that it was the finale of a great and super loved franchise and went out with a bang. I think the bigger numbers were really just an attempt to give the viewer some nostalgia and leave all they could into a final movie. There's no doubt that a whole lot more care and effort went into it in every aspect and i genuinely think anymore development would've felt overdue and it's more just a movie to cry and say goodbye to the all the memories that both the cast and crew and audience had of the movie.
I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. My 8 year old self cried my butt off when I saw this in theaters. Hell, I still cry today whenever I watch it. 😂😭
They also need to remember that this was 13 years ago and back then the music numbers were the best thing about the movie. It made it iconic and memorable…🙌🏾‼️🗣
She’s annoyed that he didn’t ask her to prom at all. He just assumed what her choice was going to be. You need to actually ask your partner what they want to do.
Even now, whenever I’m going through a rough patch, I turn on any HSM movie and always end up with a smile. These films mean a lot to a generation of kids.
I think if you're looking for more development for Sharpy. Her spin-off movie Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure goes into way more development. And I think she shines in it
I could never find a english version, so I can only speak about my dubbed versions. Even so: For me Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure is one of my comfort movie. It's sappy, ridiculous(and they know it) and the good kind of bad. Sometimes I just want to watch a comedy about a disney-y antihero struggle and crank one stupied, selfish comment after another. IT'S FUN.
If I remember correctly Rocketman and Tiara were supposed to be the leads in a spinoff/sequel series, though I'm unsure whether it was going to be a TV series or another set of DCOMs. Plans obviously changed though, potentially because of backlash towards the rumours of that possibility. In the end that turned out to be a blessing though, since the actor who played Rocketman turned out to be a truly horrible guy - he was the lead in another DCOM called Geek Charming, where he met and started dating Sarah Hyland (most famous for playing Hayley in Modern Family). He was physically and emotionally abusive towards her during their relationship, to the point where she filed a restraining order against him in 2014, and he's basically (fortunately) been blacklisted from the entertainment industry ever since.
I once saw someone talking about how they loved Geek Charming, even tho it's hard to watch it after what happened between the actors...I didn't know what happened, but I decided to not look it up because I had a bad feeling.....I assumed it was something like this tho...
I don't know if the beat up truck is supposed to depict that they're poor, I think it might just be dad's way of saying "I'm not going to hand you everything, you gotta learn how to earn it" so he makes Troy pay for the truck and all the work he has to do to it.
1:55 As someone who played basketball my whole life this hits really hard. I love this scene. When I was playing my last high school game and the clock started to wind down and I realized it was my last few minutes in that uniform I had to choke back tears so I wouldn’t cry in the middle of the game. 16 minutes is not a long time when you’ve devoted your entire life to a sport and suddenly its about be taken from you. After playing for my coach and with my teammates for 10 years it was now over. They’re genuinely like family too me and now I would never get to play with my sisters again. Or play for my coaches who are like second fathers to me. The minute the buzzer went off me and all the rest of the seniors on the team immediately doubled over and started sobbing. We collapsed on the floor and hugged each other. So I think they did an amazing job in this movie of capturing how emotional your last game can be. Watching it is bringing back all of the memories and emotions from my last game and it’s straight up making me tear up a bit. I would do anything to go back and play with my teammates and coaches again.
I loved this film when it came out, but I watched it again just after I finished university and it DESTROYED me. I feel like it perfectly encapsulates the feelings of knowing you have to leave and the sadness of leaving your friends behind to do "bigger and better things".
@@araani8740 Me too! I saw right after leaving college and moving to another state! The reminder of being away from all my friends and having to start over.
I recommend The Cheetah Girls franchise for the next trilogy reaction 🐆💛. The Cheetah Girls was the first musical DCOM and FYI the third movie only features 3 of the 4 main stars. There was beef behind-the-scenes, but The Cheetah Girls: One World (the 3rd one) is still pretty good!
The second movie has the best songs because they take place outside of school during the summer. It's more fun and the choreography is amazing. The third movie is bigger but focuses more on the "musical" aspects of having a senior musical with the cast. This is also why a lot of the songs sound the same. There are much more reprises happening where they literally are using the same songs over again to continue the story so it's more cohesive sounding. The songs like Boys Are Back, Walk Away and Scream stand out because they are not grounded in the musical style the way the other songs are.
I have a theory that this movie is directly responsible for the one scene in Glee where the guidance counselor has to tell Rachel and Kurt that Juilliard doesn't have a musical theatre program.
I think the extravagant numbers and dream sequences are what makes this movie super impressive. While it is less grounded in reality, it is definitely very musical theater, background dancers and all. All the glitz and glam is a homage to Broadway and musical theater, and if you love that stuff, it's easy to see how the HSM movies became so popular and beloved. I also like how you noted that Zac and Vanessa leaning into the musical theater performance of it all was a stylistic choice, because that's all these movies are. If the problem of the first movie was just Troy likes to sing and wants to become a pop star or whatever, I think we would have totally different movies. It's that he likes doing musical theater specifically, that causes tension, so the musical theater aspects of all these movies will always be the most exciting part of it. All of this to say, Scream and I Want It All are my two favorite numbers in this movie lol Based off your reaction to this, I would actually LOVE to see your commentary on more non-Disney movie musicals: Hamilton, (although this is just a filmed version of the stage production) Grease, Hairspray, La La Land, Cabaret, Chicago, Cinderella (Brandy's version, obviously) etc. Idk, I think it would be an interesting direction for the channel!
Sam, at the start of "Scream": "See, I like this more because it's grounded." Me, knowing that CGI basketballs will be raining from the ceiling in approximately 2 seconds: ...😁👍
the 3rd one is still the best to me, something about seeing this in theaters with a much more serious tone and message really touched me. Transitioning from a DCOM to a cinematic movie, you have to amp up the stakes which HSM 3 does it to a tee. The MESSAGE: Many American teenagers are faced with the dilemma of pursuing their dream while also being pressured by their parents perception of their dream so I really appreciate the time dedicated to that in this storyline. The MUSIC: iconicc, certainly give the soundtrack a gander with headphones on (the soundtrack charted #2 on Billboard). Every single song could be played on the radio. The BUDGET: let's speak on it! You guys kept pointing out the bigger budget, mind you, their budget was only $11 million compared to the several movies that have over $100 million for their movies. Granted, that's a drastic difference from the other 2 films, but I think the funds were handled appropriately as once again, the bigger the platform, the more production and quality you integrate into your project. Btw this movie made $250 million in the box office. Legendary overall, thanks for the reaction ❤ (Also when you think about it, High School Musical 2 was technically not in high school nor was there a real musical taking place at East High)
I definitely agree with you as someone who's been a fan of the HSM movies, this one definitely had better quality than the others, especially for it to play in theaters. I remember being so happy but yet so emotional at the ending of the movie when they sung high school musical because it brought me back so many memories of me being excited as a kid when it premiered back in 06 and then to summer of my 5th grade year when the 2nd one came out in 07 and then seeing the commercials in 08 during 7th grade. HSM will always have a special place in my heart and in my memories.
It was always strange to me that Ryan & Sharpay we’re fighting so hard for a Juilliard scholarship? Like they’re both extremely wealthy so all they need to do is audition, which they will prob get in because they’re being considered for a scholarship
@@ot7biasedmashups I’m a fan of very old school musicals and the whole sequence reminds me of the surreal sights you’d be handed in a Busby Berkeley sequence, especially Ryan with all the girls at the end. Ortega knows his shit in my opinion.
agreed out of all the Ryan and sharpay singing scenes in the HSM trilogy including the deleted scene in HSM 2 when sharpay did humuhumunukunukuapua'a , I want it all was their best performance ever
Prom-posals are a huge thing here in the U.S. Even the way Chad ended up asking was incredibly small scale compared to how many ppl get asked to prom over here. She was being a little rude about it, but culturally, he was actually fucking up.
Ugh I hate that they’re critquing the film so hard that they’re missing all the theatrical references and influence on the movie. They picked up on mad max and footloose…but they went in so hard on “Want it All” and “Scream” when they are the best numbers. So well done. I love this movie.
I'mma be honest with you guys lol. I totally think your opinions are valid, but I think this movie is more made for people who love musicals a lot more than the two of you. Like as someone who works in theatre and loves a good musical, this one is visually amazing and the musical vibes are why I absolutely love it!
It’s actually a common thing for drama classes in America to do a “send off” to the seniors after they’re last show. I watched my friend’s last show in high school and they did the same thing… though, they didn’t wear their graduation gowns or caps when doing this haha; that’s just what they wanted to do in the movie I guess
the lowkey slander on HSM 3 from you guys was kinda painful bc it's personally my favourite out of the 3 while the 2nd was actually my least favourite, but i totally get how it could have been seen as a little "too much." i just love it all. I WANT IT ALL, lmao. but yeah, god, i love this film and i've memorized all the songs. probably a little close to my heart bc we actually performed the HSM 3 prom-themed songs during my actual senior prom! it was awesome. :' ) also, you guys should definitely check out Sharpay's fabulous adventure for some extensive Sharpay character development. i feel like you guys would enjoy it a lot!
I feel like it’s literally not your or any fan of the series fault that they chose to slander A MUSICAL (out of all genres of movies smh) of not being realistic. That’s kinda the whole point. This movie encapsulates perfectly the timing of graduating and prom and all that comes into your senior year, but you know in a HSM perspective. They went through with a very grown-up approach like if these characters weren’t 1/ from a Disney movie or 2/ teenagers. The scene of the understudy for example “oh they are disrespecting each other but they like each other” dude, they are just starting high school, they’re kids, of course they are inmature.
The extra characters were supposed to be the new main characters to continue the series, however, it didn't happen because fans didn't want it to be ruined. Sharpay's solo movie is where she gets her character development.
I appreciate all your opinions in the other two movies but I have to very strongly disagree in this one. I LOVE the third one, I like the other two a lot too but this one just give me a lot of feelings. Every time they get to the last song, the hsm one, I cry my eyes out. It’s now even a sad song but it’s just mean so much for me. Like, there’s not a single song I don’t like in this movie but that one? Thats one breaks me. Like when it started to sound in the video I was already tearing up lol
My thing with Gabriella and Taylor’s conversation is that while I’m all for a gap year between high school and college - most of her decision is being made off of wanting to be with Troy not necessarily wanting time off/to figure stuff out. She was choosing a guy over prioritizing herself/her life which is the only reason I’m for what Taylor was saying (though she definitely didn’t go about it the right way). I will say that gap years are great and even staying and taking classes at a local college to figure out what you want before going somewhere bigger is also super smart (and cheaper) BUT I’m not here for putting your dreams on the back burner for a dude (which is also why Troy encouraged her to go, since he didn’t want to be the reason she didn’t chase her dreams).
Actually, the whole "twins getting into the same college" thing is kinda a real thing here in the states. It's not a for-sure & every university has its own policy, but colleges like Stanford are known for being "sensitive" to twins - they would prefer to admit both instead of just one & reject the other. It's even a box on the application! If one twin is obviously not up to the standards then they won't, but considering Ryan & Sharpay are supposed to both be insanely talented, it wouldn't be a surprise for Juilliard to take them both if one wins the scholarship 🤷🏻♀️ idk how the scholarship money would work tho lol, might have to have mommy and daddy pay for one of their tuitions 😂😂
I'm not even the biggest HSM fan but this reaction was a bit hard to get through. Just felt like a whole lot of complaining. Hope you guys soon tackle a series that you enjoy a bit more. Perhaps Hunger Games or Divergent. Maybe the Maze Runner as well.
yeah I got the feeling that the movie budz arent big musical theater fans 😅 they absolutely don't have to like everything they watch but I agree, hopefully they can watch stuff they enjoy more
Exactly. I love these guys but the unnecessary nitpicking pissed me off the entire way through. They made complaints through the previous movies and they improve it here and they still complain like c’mon now 🤷🏽♀️
I'm only halfway through and wondering if you guys ever realise the songs are so musicalesque because it is literally the musical they are putting together for school :,D
The third one has a special place in my heart, not only because of the movie itself, but the memories associated with it. Like I remember being 13 seeing it premiere in cinemas with my best friends and having the tike of our lives
I love that they mentioned Vanessa’s voice and how much it has improved. She has done some amazing musical work since HSM and has one of my favorite voices to come out of Disney.
Love it when you guys point out that Ryan can talk and read and play the music and it’s believable. When asked in interviews pretty much all the former HSM stars agree that Lucas Grabeel is the best singer and musician of the group. There’s actually a very nice video where Ashley Tisdale and him do the slow version of what I’ve been looking for that he arranged. And in the HSM series he has a cameo song where he also gets to show off his voice a little more. The BTS for that episode is also very cute as all the new stars of the series gush over him.
I know this may seem like a "wow, the bar is really low" compliment but I've been a fan for awhile because I love how you both call out all the cases of ppl crossing lines in terms of sexual harrassment and assault and other abusive behaviours firmly drawing a line in the sand, which may seem like it should be basic decency but I've come across a fair few other channels reviewing the same movies kinda gloss over these things without acknowledging them, or just laugh about it like it's not a big deal. It's a very comforting vibe and I appreciate you two!
I can't believe that it's been 13 years since the movie was released. I remember feeling very emotional watching it in the cinema, since it was the end of a cheesy, feel good, guilty pleasure era! ♥️
I love the camp, musical theater-ness to this movie. Plus there are so many little callbacks to things they did in the previous two that it hits in all the right places for me! Side things: This is set in New Mexico in the early 2000s so Troy’s house isn’t unrealistic for a middle/upper middle class family. They have enough money to live comfortably, but they’re definitely not rich. College tuition in the US is killer. Also Troy giving a speech at graduation was probably because of a student vote. Some schools like mine have the senior class vote for who they want to give the speech.
I feel like to complete this journey you need to react to “Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure” its a movie about sharpays story and i personally think you would actually love it 😊
Actually FLIPPED is a very good enemies to lovers story, but you also get to choose in the end if you want the main characters to end upp together. And I have always find that very interesting! :)
There are good examples and FLIPPED is one of them it’s just very easy to end up being super toxic because the trope toes a fine line. A lot of people know where to start or want them to really hate each other and then just have them fall in love without really fixing the problems.
people always tease Taylor for having the umbrella but its because she's prepared! she totally checked the weather report and knows its going to rain. Its so Taylor and I saw it from the first viewing but noones ever pointed it out in one of these before Im so fucking happy.
I haven’t watched this movie in forever, and that scene with Troy and his dad with the Julliard situation just now brought me to tears! I love how rewatching old Disney movies hits different than when I watched it for the first time as a child.
They should totally do "Jump In" at some point for some choice acting from Corbin Bleu and a great storyline. One of the underrated ones for sure and I second everyone about Cheetah Girls!
scream was the ULTIMATE bisexual anthem for troy bolton; coming from a transmasc nonbinary person. and sharpay with the short wig and leotard, and gabriella in the maid dress were DEFINITELY a big part in my gay awakening. little me was OBSESSED
I’ve been waiting for this!!!! I saw it in theaters while the rest of my family watched Quarantine across the building. Truly an iconic moment in time for cinema fans 😂
I remember this was the first film I had ever seen in the cinema when the audience clapped. Once at the start when troye came on screen, and at the end. I will never forget that
Listen, opinions about HSM3 don’t matter if you weren’t a teenager in 2008 watching this at the movie theater, crying over the last number and thinking that was it, an era for us was ending.
@@bloodyhellmanns It’s a good movie, but it has room to squeeze some jokes in there. Especially when it comes to Haymitch who I think they will find funny lol
re: Ryan and Kelsey, as far as I'm aware, they DID want to make Ryan gay but Disney wouldn't let them so they shoved Ryan and Kelsey together as a sort of "beard" situation so actually that was, in fact, what they were doing!!
3 is my favourite the cinematography the soundtrack is so good way better than the first little bit better than the second and Scream is my favourite song zac kills it the revolving hallway is so pleasing to watch great reaction lads also walk away is Gabriellas best "solo"
You were correct in Berklee College of music being more open genre wise but it’s a college for music specifically whereas Juilliard is a performing arts school so it’s the prestigious acting and dance college in addition to music.
I don't really think their issue with everyone's negative response to Gabriellas idea to take a gap year is valid. Yes a gap year is good, but Stanford is a major deal and will not hold a spot because you wanted to find yourself. Also if she was going to apply to any other college after the gap the admissions people would be more difficult and look down on her for "not doing much" with the year unless she was working in a very prestigious internship or something.
I'm just clarifying a bit. Gabriella was the Valedictorian (1:09:47 you can see the medal). When I graduated HS we had 2 guys giving a speech. The Valedictorian and then that one guy that everyone in school knew and was kind of like "the clown", he was great, so I'm guessing that's why Troy was also asked to give a speech, but I would've loved to hear Gabriella's
The thing with the Juilliard thing is that it would be impossible for Troy have even gotten the consideration in the first place: Before that stage, an applicant has to have like 3 years studying a relevant class, you have to submit the standard entrance essay, and there's the in person audition. If we are to believe that Troy got to a consideration, assuming that the premiere musical arts and drama college of America didn't just throw their entire protocol for unknown unwilling superstar Troy Bolton, that means Danvers; * applied to Juilliard on his behalf (not allowed and potentially illegal) *forged and submitted his essay (also highly against the rules) *and either submitted footage of a past show in place of the audition or persuaded them to just not do it (??!!) All for Troy Bolton, who only took part in 2 extra curricular school musicals because he was somewhat bullied into it, and until the last half hour of the movie, had no interest in going
Taylor wasn't mad Chad didn't ask big enough. He just assumed they were going together cause they were dating. So she was being salty with him in the cafeteria because he's trying to ask now after the fact but then he surprised her by asking in front of everyone so she finally said yes.
I think for me personally the 3rd one was the best bc it fit so well. It came out in movie theaters when I was 17. And for a lot of kids who grew up with this they were around that age as well. So making it a tribute movie and going extra hard on all the stuff we already loved about the first two movies makes sense that way. But I agree we could've spent a bit more time on fleshing out the stories we've got instead of trying to make it as big as possible.
I'm very interested on your take on how some fans believe that Troy and Gabriella are the "real villains" while Sharpay is the true victim of the trilogy. Personally, I believe they're all just nuanced teenagers who had a lot of growing up to do during and after the series itself. :) PS: Check out Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure if you're interested about Sharpay's character development!
I can kind of see them being the villain in a way but she still acts like a villain in a way that isn’t really justified enough that she can’t be the protagonist either. It’s not black and white which I enjoy.
I can clarify that from the state they live in (New Mexico) and the look of their house, Troy’s family is just modern middle class. My small town in Texas is made up of mostly middle class working families. A lot of kids had “fixer-upper” cars in high school. But I can also say no one’s broke down like Troy’s. But it’s no surprise to me really. 😆😆
Oh y'all definitely caught the music all wrong! In HSM 3 they can definitely feel similar but that's just because most of them heavily lean into Broadway musicals. The producers didn't just lose themselves, it's just different from 1&2. It's totally understandable if y'all simply don't like that style but it's wrong to say that the producers didn't give it their all.
I was a part of the class of 2020 so I didn’t get a prom or a graduation or any of the fun end of senior year things. When I was walking out of the school on the last day I didn’t even know that I’d never come back. And worst i never got to say goodbye to anyone. So this movie hits kinda hard. It makes me a bit sad i never got to have those fun final memories with my friends. And even though its been a while since then and I’ve moved on, it still feel like i missed out on some big life moments and rite of passages.
I personally loved the musical aspect of the third one. I watched this in theatres as a kid and I just loved how ‘big’ the movie felt. I still couldn’t tell you which out of the three is my favorite though.

To me "I want it all" is the best song/performance in the entire series. It feels a bit like a broadway show.
I agree. When they were saying how it wasnt that good, I was like uhh guys…. I respect your opinion but what the hell are you talking about
Even now, whenever I’m going through a rough patch, I turn on any HSM movie and always end up with a smile. These films mean a lot to a generation of kids.
I think if you're looking for more development for Sharpy. Her spin-off movie
Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure goes into way more development. And I think she shines in it
Sharpay is a diva but she is hardworking and knows what she wants. She isn’t afraid to work to become a star. She is an inspiration.
Vouch I would love it if they reacted to that movie, we get so much development
Was just about to comment this! I hope they do a commentary on it, would be nice to see them see the development she gets. Sharpay redemption arc

He was physically and emotionally abusive towards her during their relationship, to the point where she filed a restraining order against him in 2014, and he's basically (fortunately) been blacklisted from the entertainment industry ever since.
oh wow! i saw him in geek charming and didn't realize that was him... and i had NO IDEA about the other stuff! yikes
thank you for bringing this up!! i love HSM3 but cringe so hard everytime he comes on screen bc all i see is an abuser
Ya it was supposed to be be a series with Ashley tisdale as a guest star and both coach bolton and mrs. Darbus returning.
Wait thats the Geek Charming dude?!
THIS
Exactly
Which is not uncommon for a lot of families.
they do acknowledge this tbf
Yes!! I was thinking this the whole time they were saying it!
51:43 “this was not a good use of the budget.” I would argue this is the BEST use of the budget!
I love this🤍🫶🏼
I loved this film when it came out, but I watched it again just after I finished university and it DESTROYED me. I feel like it perfectly encapsulates the feelings of knowing you have to leave and the sadness of leaving your friends behind to do "bigger and better things".
Same! I watched it last year after a really long time and found myself getting teary in so many scenes
@@araani8740 Me too! I saw right after leaving college and moving to another state! The reminder of being away from all my friends and having to start over.
SAMEEE I CRIED NEXT TO FRIEND AT THAT TIME AHHH
I recommend The Cheetah Girls franchise for the next trilogy reaction 🐆💛. The Cheetah Girls was the first musical DCOM and FYI the third movie only features 3 of the 4 main stars. There was beef behind-the-scenes, but The Cheetah Girls: One World (the 3rd one) is still pretty good!
The cheetah girls trilogy is on their list🙂
Cheetah Girls walked so High School Musical could run 🏃♂️🚶♂️
@@kirag9509 Yessssss please do the cheetah girl
please please please!! the 2nd Cheetah Girls might be my favorite DCOM ever and THE SONGS!!
High key third one is my fave one
Fun fact the pink lockers are still a thing to this day at the high school they shot this at.
I have a theory that this movie is directly responsible for the one scene in Glee where the guidance counselor has to tell Rachel and Kurt that Juilliard doesn't have a musical theatre program.
omg
high school musical is directly responsible for glee like period
All of this to say, Scream and I Want It All are my two favorite numbers in this movie lol
Based off your reaction to this, I would actually LOVE to see your commentary on more non-Disney movie musicals: Hamilton, (although this is just a filmed version of the stage production) Grease, Hairspray, La La Land, Cabaret, Chicago, Cinderella (Brandy's version, obviously) etc. Idk, I think it would be an interesting direction for the channel!
definitely the brandy version of Cinderella
I love that one
Sam, at the start of "Scream": "See, I like this more because it's grounded."
Me, knowing that CGI basketballs will be raining from the ceiling in approximately 2 seconds: ...😁👍
This is a really underrated comment
the 3rd one is still the best to me, something about seeing this in theaters with a much more serious tone and message really touched me. Legendary overall, thanks for the reaction ❤ (Also when you think about it, High School Musical 2 was technically not in high school nor was there a real musical taking place at East High)
factssss. I totally agree with this point.
I definitely agree with you
as someone who's been a fan of the HSM movies, this one definitely had better quality than the others, especially for it to play in theaters.
Yesss exactly!!!
taylor wasn't mad that chad didnt ask big enough, she was mad that he assumed she was going without asking her first at all
It was always strange to me that Ryan & Sharpay we’re fighting so hard for a Juilliard scholarship? Like they’re both extremely wealthy so all they need to do is audition, which they will prob get in because they’re being considered for a scholarship
Yea but they're ✨competitive✨
They dont want it because its free money. A scholarship is also a "look at me, im so good i won free money!"
Maybe they're parents weren't going to pay for it. Like "you're adults now"
I love how gaudily extravagant I Want It All is. Far and away the best number of the series in my opinion.
YES YES YES All the comments on here have such good taste
@@ot7biasedmashups I’m a fan of very old school musicals and the whole sequence reminds me of the surreal sights you’d be handed in a Busby Berkeley sequence, especially Ryan with all the girls at the end. Ortega knows his shit in my opinion.
agreed
out of all the Ryan and sharpay singing scenes in the HSM trilogy including the deleted scene in HSM 2 when sharpay did humuhumunukunukuapua'a , I want it all was their best performance ever
Prom-posals are a huge thing here in the U.S. Even the way Chad ended up asking was incredibly small scale compared to how many ppl get asked to prom over here. She was being a little rude about it, but culturally, he was actually fucking up.
Mhm exactly. He didn't even ask her at all at first. Biggest fuck up.
The most unrealistic part of this movie: Juliard scouting a HS basketball player that occasionally sings a little 😂
And with subpar vocals 🙃
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The second is my least favorite movie too!
@@TheSmartgirl101 Same
oh yeah, same
totally agree
Calling the last song for this unexpectedly huge trilogy High School Musical was honestly genius. Especially since HSM 3 could easily be a stage play.
“I Want It All” will forever be my Leo anthem
and this was the first time I had heard about Juilliard so when I was 18 I decided to go for it. funny how a movie can impact someone so much
I appreciate all your opinions in the other two movies but I have to very strongly disagree in this one.
I appreciate that Troy just continuously screams his troubles out...I feel that on a spiritual level
I still love every song in this movie. “Can I Have This Dance” will always speak to my high school self who never got to dance with her crush 🥲🤣
So beautiful
Even now, still can't dance with my crush. well, not that i had or have one. but still.
Im glad I wasn't the only one lol. Except my crush did not exist and I loved the dance.
i know most people prefer the 2nd but this will always be the best one in terms of literally everything - thanks for getting to it so fast!!
Yup. I agree.
Yeah... It kina hurt my high school self a bit.
yeah I got the feeling that the movie budz arent big musical theater fans 😅
they absolutely don't have to like everything they watch but I agree, hopefully they can watch stuff they enjoy more
Exactly. I love these guys but the unnecessary nitpicking pissed me off the entire way through. They made complaints through the previous movies and they improve it here and they still complain like c’mon now 🤷🏽♀️
fr
I'm only halfway through and wondering if you guys ever realise the songs are so musicalesque because it is literally the musical they are putting together for school :,D
I would like to see you do a commentary on "Hairspray"(2007) and "The Greatest Showman" (2017) just to get your take on Zach's singing developments.
"Gay Lesbian solidarity"
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY ZIP IT SAM :D
The third one has a special place in my heart, not only because of the movie itself, but the memories associated with it. Like I remember being 13 seeing it premiere in cinemas with my best friends and having the tike of our lives
Sharpay's locker is real. It is still at East High here in Utah as far as I know.
“I like this more cause it’s grounded” oh honey just wait until the floor moves lol
I love that they mentioned Vanessa’s voice and how much it has improved. She has done some amazing musical work since HSM and has one of my favorite voices to come out of Disney.
She has an amazing voice
“Ah, Chad’s beard.” 😂
YES! I love them for being vocal about this
I can't believe that it's been 13 years since the movie was released. I remember feeling very emotional watching it in the cinema, since it was the end of a cheesy, feel good, guilty pleasure era! ♥️
everytime he says “I like this more cause it’s grounded” I’m like DONT JINX YOURSELF cause literally two seconds later it will not be grounded hahahah
I feel like to complete this journey you need to react to “Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure” its a movie about sharpays story and i personally think you would actually love it 😊
OH, I REALLY HOPE THEY REACT TO IT! the fact that Venessa Hudgens's bf plays Sharpay's love interest?🤩
@@notmyhairyarmpits Sadly, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler broke up last year. :(
i really hope they do
Actually FLIPPED is a very good enemies to lovers story, but you also get to choose in the end if you want the main characters to end upp together. And I have always find that very interesting! :)
yesss, i loved it
There are good examples and FLIPPED is one of them it’s just very easy to end up being super toxic because the trope toes a fine line. A lot of people know where to start or want them to really hate each other and then just have them fall in love without really fixing the problems.
Them saying "none of the songs sound distinct from each other" should be a war crime.
Congrats on the sponsor guys! I’m happy to see there’s more and more people everyday who enjoys the Movie Budz!!
people always tease Taylor for having the umbrella but its because she's prepared! she totally checked the weather report and knows its going to rain. Its so Taylor and I saw it from the first viewing but noones ever pointed it out in one of these before Im so fucking happy.
I totally forgot, the guy in the credits who won the HSM contest is my old dance teacher’s brother, so crazy!
I haven’t watched this movie in forever, and that scene with Troy and his dad with the Julliard situation just now brought me to tears! I love how rewatching old Disney movies hits different than when I watched it for the first time as a child.
"We didnt need the backup dancers"
Bruh its a musical? what do you mean dont need the backup dancers
They have great chemistry. The way their hands touch and their eyes look at each other? Is fine, each to their own.
Gabriella did things to me in this movie that 12 year old me didn't understand yet xD
No it’s not lol
No one:
Literally no one:
Gabriella: TROOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I’ve been waiting for this!!!! I saw it in theaters while the rest of my family watched Quarantine across the building. Truly an iconic moment in time for cinema fans 😂
*scream starts playing*
“I like this more because it’s grounded”
Me: oh buddy...
I’m ready for y’all to do another big series. Like hunger games maybe.
unfortunately (?) hunger games is so good that they will no be able to make jokes about it.
@@bloodyhellmanns They did genuinly good movie but I think its better if they do romance or comedy

@@Jemini4228 agreed
re: Ryan and Kelsey, as far as I'm aware, they DID want to make Ryan gay but Disney wouldn't let them so they shoved Ryan and Kelsey together as a sort of "beard" situation so actually that was, in fact, what they were doing!!
3 is my favourite the cinematography the soundtrack is so good way better than the first little bit better than the second and Scream is my favourite song zac kills it the revolving hallway is so pleasing to watch great reaction lads also walk away is Gabriellas best "solo"
Taylor not being valedictorian always bothered me glad to see I’m not alone.
I love how you guys make fun of the right stuff and always give credit where credit is due. Not a trace of internalized misogyny and I feel safe here
You were correct in Berklee College of music being more open genre wise but it’s a college for music specifically whereas Juilliard is a performing arts school so it’s the prestigious acting and dance college in addition to music.
The other team just watching troy and gabriella scream at each other lmao 😭😭😭😭
I don't really think their issue with everyone's negative response to Gabriellas idea to take a gap year is valid. Yes a gap year is good, but Stanford is a major deal and will not hold a spot because you wanted to find yourself. Also if she was going to apply to any other college after the gap the admissions people would be more difficult and look down on her for "not doing much" with the year unless she was working in a very prestigious internship or something.
This is my favorite amongst the three movies because it's the most musical theater-y.
Fun fact! Troy’s song and performance where he was in the spinning room is actually a reference to Michael & Janet Jackson’s song “ Scream” 😋
I think they took this movie more seriously because by this time the series became a huge thing, like everyone was OBSESSED with the movies
This film had a budget of Budget 11 million USD and made 252.9 million USD at the box office that's insane for this film
The thing with the Juilliard thing is that it would be impossible for Troy have even gotten the consideration in the first place:
Before that stage, an applicant has to have like 3 years studying a relevant class, you have to submit the standard entrance essay, and there's the in person audition.
If we are to believe that Troy got to a consideration, assuming that the premiere musical arts and drama college of America didn't just throw their entire protocol for unknown unwilling superstar Troy Bolton, that means Danvers;
* applied to Juilliard on his behalf (not allowed and potentially illegal)
*forged and submitted his essay (also highly against the rules)
*and either submitted footage of a past show in place of the audition or persuaded them to just not do it (??!!)
All for Troy Bolton, who only took part in 2 extra curricular school musicals because he was somewhat bullied into it, and until the last half hour of the movie, had no interest in going
PS: Check out Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure if you're interested about Sharpay's character development!
I remember seeing that thread going viral on twitter, and actually getting shipped by Ashley Tisdale. so funny!
sharpay has a solo movie which shows more of her character development
please tell me i’m not the only one who still listens to scream unironically omg. shit goes HARD
I think the reason Sharpay had less of character development is because she has own spinoff movie. Which makes up for it entirely.
one of my favorite things is seeing chads dad in this lol he deserves parents too
I was a part of the class of 2020 so I didn’t get a prom or a graduation or any of the fun end of senior year things.
