I've no complaints with this 'version' of the song. He's a Rose. He's entitled to give it his interpretation of it. Can anyone see Ian playing the solos in Waterfall etc??
@@paulcollis9363John wrote Tears, the only song Ian wrote on Second Coming was the dreadful Straight to the Man. Iirc, the vocal on Tears is the initial guide track because Brown refused to sing it more than once.
@Wh15ky Couldn't disagree more. I like John's voice. He's honest and doesn't use tricks to make himself better, not even on records... unlike "certain other people".
@Wh15ky Bob Dylan has been mentioned before when discussing John's voice. It can remind a bit of Dylan at times (comes out a bit nasal here and there), and perhaps the style of music helps giving that perception, but the tone isn't really that similar. Definitely more John Lennon in there. One thing has to be said though: he sings in tune.
@robbocop1 Ian Brown could blow hot and cold. On a good day he'd blow your mind, on a bad one he would make you want to run for cover. Many of the gigs from the Second Coming period sound like he could not be arsed... which probably was te case. Country Park, Leeds is a good one... and Atlanta is one of his best perforamances at that time IMO. He didn't miss a note.
@Wh15ky You're not alone in your perception. He has had a lot of stick for his vocals, unfairly IMO. His is a "marmite" kind of voice, so I accept that you and others might not like it. Unconfident is a fair judgement. He's not a singer, so he's not really coming across as confident, no. But that's what makes it endearing to me. Yes, honesty is referring to "tricks", but also to the fact that he's not trying to sell himself as a vocalist, by any means. He's what he is, like it or load it.
@Wh15ky oh, and I don't agree AT ALL with the Ringo Starr comaprison. If anything his voice has a John Lennonesque tone - something others have picked up, not just me.
@braddyboy82 I found him a little Tom Petty-ish. I also don't get comparisonsto Ian Brown (as some have brought forward here). Of course Ian Brown sings better (when he's arsed): he's a singer. If he went on stage strumming guitar to accompany his vocals and people started saying "Oh, dear! He can't play like Squire!" it would be unfair. He's not a guitarist, as much as John's not a singer.
A lot of comparisons have been made that he sounded like Bob Dylan. I disagree, I think that he sounds like the singer from Midnight Oil. I mean... RIGHT???!!!! It's so obvious!!
I have one that has been circulating fairly soon after the gig... in fact I have uploaded the whole thing on my channel. If yours is better, I'm interested. Play my tracks and see how they compare, if it's the same or yours is better quality.
I'd forgotten about this. I like it. The dude can play!
2nd coming albums been well underestimated, these tunes are simply 👌 magical from start till finish
Couldn't agree more, never understood why it got such hate when it was released.
An amazing version. Shame Jonh hasn't released more music this is really good.

I really like this - don't think I'd listened to this one before.

Your all that ever mattered and all that ever will. My fav lyric
@SquireRoses95 I love John. He can do no wrong in my eyes. I love his voice too. You just have to check my channel, to see that ;)
He wrote it, he can play it
@robbocop1 I guess the albums might be... they are on Amazon, I know that much.
Fun fact he actually sang on this track on the album
Luke Parry
Yeah backing vocals with Reni

@15Hamster neither could Ian Brown! :)))
i like this version more than the original. maybe the original bored me, kinda too poppy, i guess.

good job he had a fan base from the roses...
he cant sing.. bless him
He can't sing. His voice goes all over the place. Doesn't take anything away from his guitar though. He's not a singer, he's a guitarist
John Smith aye and Ian has the voice of the angel. They’re still both legends
Oh Jesus my ears.
My fave Roses song, and Squires killing it 😕
I've heard better versions on karaoke
He should have sung off key like Ian live then it would be more authentic 😂😅😂😂
this is hands down my favorite version of Tightrope despite Squire being full blown shithoused and slurring the words
