Cody Turning I never understood the dislike for the second album, it's just as good as the first. Breaking Into Heaven is my most listened Roses tune of all-time and while it's definitely underrated, it did make it into the Best Of albums.
It just came out at an unfortunate time. The original stone rose craze has died down, and the album chose the worst years to hit the market: with parklife, definitely maybe and dog man star before it in 1994, and with the great escape, what's the story morning glory, different classes after it in 1995. Just unfortunate....
@@johnmccaughey2722 All four are great on this song. Brown, Squire, Mani and Reni. Mani's basslines are actually brilliant but they get overshadowed by Squire's guitars.
I am not sure Second Coming is hated? Fans love it - the songs Reni drums on Breaking into heaven, daybreak, tears, love spreads are classic and demonstrate how utterly incredible the roses could be. As a band they could hang with anyone I reckon. They truly are more than the sum of their parts. You have an incredible bass player, a best of generation guitar player and best of all time drummer - But when they play together they become truly special - and of course they wouldbnt be a zietgest crushing group without the immensely charismatic Monkey King. I think second coming gets a kicking in some corners because after the sheer splendour of the first record there was always bound to be some drop off - that record is timeless and caught the mood of the nation. It would have been brilliant if they had have kept going to see what they would have put out. And Reni is one of the greatest ever - I mean its totally subjective term but he is one of a kind in my book, You get lots of videos with people copying or breaking down parts by the likes of Bonham and Purdie - but very rarely do Reni videos actaully sound like the man - his style is so unique. Its not in the nature of Roses fans to compare musicians - its a waste of time - but I reckon that is why he isnt in these greatest drummers of all time lists - its rock and metal fans who get into all that he can play a million notes a minute bs....
Bout time a BLU RAY/CD was released from that 1995 tour. Lots of the shows were pro filmed and recorded, be great to hear and see them pristinely mixed and mastered. Thanks for uploading this its a great funky performance.
Leaving aside Ian's performance, the band was 100% tight and amazing. And what is this riffery that goes on and on and excites? Like Jimi Page and Hendrix blended into liquid. A band truly like no other.
I brought the album the week it was released and I played it daily for months. I was 15 I think. Loved it. Very different to there first and very different to turns into stone b sides. Record. But Loved the hard rock'n'roll guitar licks. Sick Record top ten for sure for me
I think at the time we were expecting album 2 to be closer to album 1. I remember being totally shocked when I first played love spreads despite the fact I was a Led Zep, Peter Green, Free, Sabbath, purple, Motorhead etc fan . Had Ten storey been the comeback single then the album would have got less initial hostility in the press etc. I love 2nd coming now and have done since putting aside the demands of my preconcieved expectations but intially it wasn't what I expected from The Stone Roses , yet had page and plant put it out in 94, I and millions of others would have loved it immediately and raved about it's greatness. There is perhaps a lesson there somewhere🙂
For a band that from two albums that might have sold a couple million copies the mark they left on music culture in the country is unreal to 20 years after they spit up to play 3 gigs to over 250000 in a weekend just forever legends
@lfcwhitman5 John Squire is jaw-dropping. You get the lot that's like "their 2nd was a travesty", and then you get the lot that's like "DAMN, Squire knew how to play, he just blamed it on the engineer for making them sound like Herman's Hermits on the first record." Look, they sat down, got stoned, watched 'Song Remains The Same' and realized, "We ARE the preeminent band of our generation, let's showcase it!!!" But it was a little before Oasis Paul Weller, and Ocean Colour scene peaked." Gods.
Second Coming is a fucking great album, but it is John's album. Nothing wrong with that, despite what the Roses fanatics tell you. They're all there doing their shit. Best songs, and i know it's not popular opinion are Straight to the Man and this tune, Daybreak. EPIC
It's always funny to me how John squire went from a soft indie guitarist kind of thing to this blitzing Jimmy page- hendrix style. Who spits out riffs just like any other guitarist. U saw it a little bit In the first album but now he just sends it.
Maddix wasn't that bad, just Reni was so good. He had such a loose funky feel that could play around the beat. Maddox was technically good but lacked the feel.
No one can replicate Reni, Maddox is like a session fill in and only had 4 weeks before the tour started in his defence. The songs are waaaay more rock with his playing. It’s too fast also…..
Have played this relentlessly but must admit that after hearing JS on guitar and Reni on drums, IB drags. Where's the articulation, enunciation, and punch? Mushmouth!
@wideheadofknowledge It hurs to say this but this gig wasn't long before the disasterous final gig at Reading. They were on their way down. My prior comments were aimed at 'others' who claimed to have heard them but weren't even old enough to have been at Blackpool, Spikeisland, and Glasgow Green. Their crystal balls don't work as well as they think they do.
second coming was really not recorded right. when you hear them playing the songs live you can't help but think it should have sounded better on the record than it did
@lfcwhitman5 You'll find that most of the 'richards' that continuously take shots at Ian Brown and John Squire have never heard them live, and those that did love Damon Alburn and his unholy Blur. Most of them were not even old enough to remember Then Stone Roses so pay them no mind.
I don't understand the hate towards their second album, its brilliant. I think this is one of their most underrated songs.

Totally agree. Second album is one of my all time favorites. So much scorching guitar and long dreamy songs. What more could you ask?
It just came out at an unfortunate time. This song is excellent especially the guitar solos
@@johnmccaughey2722

Squire was always amazing, and his guitar work in the second coming was fantastic. I love that album.
Second coming is one of the best album of all time
P.S. John Squire is god
Yes,I agree!!!!!
Squire is a magician on guitar. This song should be the definition of a wah wah pedal. Incredible.
You need to watch 70’s porn to hear what a Wah wah pedal can do
This is my favourite Stone Roses song and this version is fucking incredible. Squire is an absolute legend!
Stone roses at their best in my opinion, second coming is a great album.
One of my favourite guitar solos ever.
What a guitarist. Just unbelievabley good.
*Unbelievably

今聴いてもかっこよすぎる!
baddasss bass Mani love it.......
As always. Mani can't do a bad bass line :)
John Squire is incredible
俺の青春の曲。ジョンスクワイヤに憧れて何度も聴いた。
Amazing tune and what a great performance by Squire to play most of that widdly widdly stuff in the dark.
What a tune
Leaving aside Ian's performance, the band was 100% tight and amazing. And what is this riffery that goes on and on and excites? Like Jimi Page and Hendrix blended into liquid. A band truly like no other.
this is the video i've been looking for
fair play to john squire to realise that the public wanted guitar narcissism interspersed in their pop hedonism. well done, sir.

The guitar solo sounds like just breaking through all the things without any think🤣😂 I can feel the cocaine through it, awesome John!!!
I love this so much
Wow...................speachless...........thank you for the post
geez the audio is incredible how the hell did you do that!! who cares? just a great big cheers from the states for posting both tracks!

Gotta say I think the second coming is there best album

So cool. I love this song so much John is so fucking awesome.
people say squires the best guitarist of his generation, which is wrong he is the best guitarist there was or ever will be.
Better than Hendrix ?
@@johnharvey4448 its funny because I think his guitar style is heavily lifting from hednrix and page, but it still sounds badass

Ian’s voice on this 🤯🤯

what a play...specially John...Belgrade and Serbia are waiting for them
You're right - he's nearly a whole tone flat.
well said
come to Chile
Greatest album of all time.....better than anything the Smiths could have come up ith...its all about opinions
Funny joke
BEST SHIT IN THIS WORLD JOHN SQUIRE IS THE MAN
Missing Reni, of course. Brown a bit flat but he was constantly stoned back then. Worth it for Squire though.
@lfcwhitman5
They weren't a patch on The Smiths.
It doesn't really get much cooler than this does it?
@lfcwhitman5 Ians the swagger and the poet, and you know it.
One of Ian browns best singing live
Maddix as absolute muck, hopeless! What the fuck is he doing to this song?! Thank God Reni is back - he was/is the Roses

this is just before it went tits up,second coming is a fine album
No-one does instrumentals like the Stone Roses, intros, interludes, outros.
@lfcwhitman5 spot on, mate..
I see the bucket hat.....but the comments indicate it's not Reni?

Liam really inspired by ian brown from outfit to his movement in the stage
I was born five days later ..
lol, this session is a perfect example of why they broke up. squire's completely tearing it up while brown does some karaeoke
it's embarrasing really
The Seahorses were a steaming bag of shit though. Brown's solo career was brilliant

No Reni No Roses
Jules...I see a bucket hat, but it's Maddix? I'm confused lol.
I am actually keen on tightrope also.....

What did you make of that first Cockney Rejects album?
john is fucking genius!
Anyone know where this gig was??
Playing guittar like that....?
john fucking squire
this is not hendrix or page but this is squire!
There's fuck all out there like this anymore. Shame.
Squire with this Les Paul is a legend combination. Best performance ever. Ian should have perform better)))
Is this Reni on drums?
No
No is maddix, reni left the band
Morrissey and Marr are the best songwriters out of Manc-land.
