Swallow hole can't cope when river rises 2ft after rainstorm.

- At Sinc Gieldd on Mynydd Du a stream drops down into a limestone cave. In late summer it's just a trickle but after winter rains it swells into a full blown river and can rise several feet in a few hours. I camped on it's banks expecting a lot less rain than actually happened over night. I was a bit shocked at what I woke up to.

Jeeez that’s scary!! To be honest I never pitch that low down as you just never can tell!!!
So lucky, scary stuff!! Xx
Glad you’re keeping your channel name xx
Yes, a mistake I won't make again! So the wandering forester it is then. Thanks for watching, xx
lucky escape from the water, but if the snapped gopro thing is the only thing that did happen, then a great adventure. Looked great having a little tour around, see the waterfall, etc. loved it! Great adventure
When I woke up I could hear the sound of the river was different but wasn't expecting it to be so high. Pity the mist came down though, there's more out there to see. Thanks for watching. ATB
Cracking vlog very informative
Thank you. I like to add information on the places I go where I can. All the best, Roger
Limestone country is just brilliant. This reminded me a little of a miniature Malham Cove in reverse. There the river just seems to emerge from solid rock. 😎
You're right about Limestone with it's pavements, shakeholes, pot holes and so on. I might hike out there when it's been dry for a while to try to see the hole it goes into.
Nice to see you still in one piece Roger! 😱 I think my nerves would have been jangling all night 🤣 Snazzy new hat! Lovely area, reminds me a little of the North Pennines. Take care, Sue 👍
PS love the thumbnail
Actually I slept pretty well but woke up with a start when I looked out in the morning! ATB, Roger
What picturesque landscape on your welsh walk. We are hoping to do a few walks on Welsh borders during next break. I'v had problems with my GoPro accessories not always reliable so know the feeling.
It's the 2nd break on the mediamod, both from continued open/shut actions. The Beacons isn't just about the views from the northern escarpments as you see. Enjoy your walks next break. ATB, Roger
Roger well done for completing your unfinished business 👍As I said in your previous video I camped at sinc giedd back in 1993. And just for future reference you did have a lucky escape because where you pitched does flood. I'm of a certain age and I remember the song there's a hole in my bucket 😂. Glad you are keeping the channel name the same 👍 ATB 😉
I don't think I said it in the video but I found the river was already going back down when I woke up, so yeah, lucky! Exciting to see though. Thanks for watching, all the best, Roger
Wow atmosphere is great
Thanks for watching. The Welsh mountains can be a bit spooky when the clouds cover them. ATB, Roger
That was a close shave Rodger ⛺️mind made for an excellent and exciting film mate
What a wonder that Swollow hole is 👌🏻🏴
Cool to see the over flow dry and then wet 👍
Hope your doing okay
Best regards Simon
Thanks Simon, it was a bit of a surprise as I didn't think it had rained that much overnight. Still, all's well that ends well.😃
Who wants to be doing the mundane things of life when one can be out there! lol Awesome stuff!! Keep up the great wandering and adventuring!
I'm trying not to get too set in my ways for sure. Thanks for watching!
Nice one. I too am bored with this awful wet/windy weather. I’m sure you’re my long lost twin brother. You have all the character traits I do. I’ve pitched too late so often. If you need a piece of kit just go in all the lakes/dales summits. I’ve left something on every one 😂atb
Yeah, the weather is getting a bit much now! I've spent almost no time in the dales (so far - definitely on my list) but the Lakes we know really well, 118 Wainwrights and counting. I've lost most stuff on Dartmoor, probably just sinks in the bogs. ATB, Roger
You are fast becoming one of our favourite UA-camrs Roger! You have such a lovely relaxed manner and it’s a real pleasure to share your adventures. Brecon and Dartmoor are two places we love to walk and wild camp so it’s great to see the locations you choose as it gives us ideas for future trips. Look forward to lots more of your videos. Kind regards, Trudy & Pete
Thanks for the kind words. I still have a fair bit of the Beacon to go at, especially the western side. Dartmoor is relatively new to me but I'm really enjoying learning about it. All the best, Roger
Hi Roger, nice spot. That gully looks the stuff of nightmares. A giant plug hole. What tent are using? It looks new. Thanks
I'll try to get out there when the water is down a bit, I'm told if you get it right there can be a whirlpool. The tent is a Big Sky International Chinook 1P. I've been using it since December. Thanks for watching, Roger
Good to see sinc giedd. Maybe it is worth me trying to get there again after all… I found the shake holes spooky
From my primary school Welsh I’d guess the pronunciation is
Sink geee-yeth (soft th like in the)
Ah - my bad, I had it in my head it was spelt with only one d. Need to read the map properly! Thanks for watching, ATB, Roger
great video!
Glad you enjoyed it.
When I tried to walk there I went down into the gully by the river fairly early on and got a bit stuck and lost,,, do you just walk along the top edge the whole way down?
Yes. Coming along the track from Glyntawe, just before you hit the stream at SN 8135 1844 there's a small pond. Turn left just after that and there's an indistinct path basically parallel to the gully.
Nice video... What is the 'what3words' app location for where you camped?
If ya os map sinc giedd , satellite map, you can see the spot pretty well where the river stops suddenly
I don't know, haven't got what3words. It's near SN 810 178 on OS maps. Thanks for watching. Roger
Looking on the grid finder map, the what3words is ///cyclones.trade.removable
“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.” 🌃🌉🌛🌠
True, there weren't any stars on view on this one!😃
