so, I'm a new player to FF14, have been in TERA for the past ~12 years, and began my journey in 14 as a Paladin (Gladiator). My only real question about mentality and comfort is this: If I'm doing 2-3 pack pulls because I'm new (when I full pull I sometimes die) How do I deal with people pulling ahead when I dont have any mitigation up after the first pack after a boss fight and my "teammates" pulling three extra packs that I'm not prepared to handle and know that I would die to? This happened to me multiple times already (have been playing for a week, currently lvl 60, about to finish ARR). It makes me feel like shit because I either do my job and die, meaning a partywipe, or I'm a dick who lets his party die before me (which I dont want since I'd die right after the healer and I run out of ressources or the healer pulls aggro after the impatient player dies) I've tried just stalling a little bit for cooldowns, or taking the dmg for them with like my one or two remaining mitigation skills (like rampart and reprisal, but I usually use at least one of them as soon as I stand still after pulling) but I just die if they bring all the mobs to me right now. I've already been trying to pace myself even more with when to use mitigation and how much to use, and which ones, but I still fail from time to time.
@@eredaane4656usually the consensus among the playerbase is that the tank sets the pace in dungeons, so if dps/healers start pulling ahead of you then they know what theyre doing and they know theyre being a dickhead whos just being impatient. If the party wipes because the pack got too big to handle then they should get the message that this was a result of them pulling more and thats usually enough to make them stop. In the case that they are still unaware, let them know in party chat and 99% of people are nice enough to comply.
You pretty much went over everything tank related and even taught me some things I didn't know yet (lol never thought kiting would be valuable). Good video, keep 'em coming!
@@AzuriteTV After this video I actually tried it in a roulette (oddly, in the exact same place in the same dungeon that you demonstrated), it was awesome being able to pull everything and not be stuck with enemies I thought were immobile. Aside from that, stutter-stepping is something I really want to practice, when the boss is doing their best ley-lines impression and not moving it's so frustrating.
Something frequently forgotten in guides is to group mobs around you. I'm seeing so many new tanks just letting mobs gather all around him, and that often means some DPS AOEs won't be able to hit everything. This is really bad. But more and more tanks are doing this. It's not that the DPS aren't performing, it that you are preventing the DPS from doing their job properly. So always group mobs together. Don't just run into the center of a mob pack and stand there.
It's hard to cover everything but you're definitely right about this. I've actually spoken to Az about that after he uploaded and I'm sure he'll pin your comment.
Outstanding guide, I have read and watched many videos regarding tanking and as a general tanking guide this is superb for both beginners and vets. I really appreciate the time you put into this guide. Great job Azurite.
Tanking seems simple at first but there’s so much nuance I didn’t expect. I’ve been tanking for 6 months now and I still feel like a complete beginner!
I can't believe I forgot about the most basic, obvious, and best use of Arm's Length. I usually combo Reprisal with Arm's Length for 10% mitigation and the slow on large pulls. I constantly forget about the anti-knocback and feel like an idiot when I'm blown off the edge. For some reason it took watching Titan being the hammer down for it to sink in.
Good on you for using it for mitigation, I notice a lot of tanks don't realise how powerful it is as a tank cd. Also glad my sacrifice to Titan wasn't in vain :D
@@AzuriteTV Not in vain at all! I get so tired of spinning the camera around looking for the wall to blow back into when it's available. This definitely saves that headache. I just started using both the 10% damage reduction and slow from two abilities in big pulls because it seemed to just make sense. Slow them down, take less damage, and let the DPS finish the job.
As a new player and someone who wants to tank as a main, this is a great guide. One thing I'd like to mention is that with the influx of new players, it's easy to be overwhelmed in some content when other people in the party are more familiar with the instance. You mentioned it earlier, but it's important to speak up and communicate. Thanks for the video.
As a veteran player myself I just want to get content done as quick as possible and kind of assume that everyone in the party wants to do the same and therefore I got the (bad) habbit of pulling ahead as a dps or healer if the tank isn't doing w2w. As a console player I rarely communicate in the chat because it's just painful if you don't have a keyboard attached but I definitely still read the chat. So when a new player says he's new I'm definitely slowing down a bit to make it less stressful for them. If I see they're handling it well I go back to my routine though and pull in an extra pack to make it a bit quicker. It's not meant in a toxic way I just do it so everyone can save some time.
I just got level 50 dark knight and I only played paladin before and I wanted to watch new tips and guides on tanking because I had a hard time tanking from PLD to DRK and then I found this channel and I love the way you describe and talks about tanking, your videos really help a lot, thank you very much.
as a healer main I loved this video. why? it’s good for my job to better understand your class. I don’t play tank but I can tell the difference between a good and a not so good tank. I liked how you encouraged ppl to find their comfort zone with pulling. I love when there’s a silent communication between tank and healer with how big a pull can be by simply going forward (not rushing) and see if the other will follow. having tanks with such a respectful way to communicate is wonderful and makes your healer feel comfortable. there’s nothing worse than to rush after your tank who’s half dead upon arrival and stress out to keep everyone alive.
I'm glad you could enjoy the video even as a healer main! I didn't really think about the silent communication between tank and healers but when you mention it I often catch myself doing this as a healer, running ahead and trying to use my characters body language to pull more xD and if the tank decides to not then I'll stop with them and AoE the pack they have chosen to pull :)
@@AzuriteTV exactly! I’m doing the same and try to stay beside the tank. when this silent communication works it goes smoothly for the whole group. usually those tanks are those who I personally call “shield and forget”. such tanks manage their cds so excellent that a (actually powerful) shield like Haima lasts a fairly large mob group and almost no additional healing is necessary. what helped me to play my class hopefully better was your explanation of the cds and how they work. I found the explanation about the tank busters helpful, because I now understand better your cds. I’m maining sage and used to shield them last second before a tank buster. I try to switch that now and shield them earlier, so they don’t need to waste their precious cd.
The level 90 fight in the final Endwalker tank role quest requires the use of Interject to interrupt the boss's ultimate attack, which will wipe you if it gets cast. It's a long cast by the boss - it flashes, indicates it's interruptible by Interject - so, unless you have wasted using it recently, you have plenty of time to interrupt it. A tank's Low Blow and a paladin's Shield Bash will NOT stun or stop the cast. I learned that the hard way. Please learn from my mistake on a simple but often overlooked mechanic. Otherwise, the fight is easy. I'm a DPS main, so tanking is not what I usually do. But I have been tanking more in Endwalker than in A Realm Reborn and any other expansion.
Please keep in mind that arm's length does not work against magical abilities/autos for applying the slow Also with stutter stepping, don't move back in. Stop in place just before your gcd comes back, hit it and continue moving. If you move back in for your gcd you take longer to position the boss which means your melee dps hate you.
This depends heavily on the fights. You want to use stutter stepping to not miss a GCD so moving back to the boss is required to not miss the GCD otherwise it would make stutter stepping redundant. If you need to move a boss quick to a different position you can't use stutter stepping and need to make use of your ranged skills if possible in your rotation or just live with the missed GCD.
Very informative guide on tanking. I am currently practicing GNB and this lovely video of yours has improved my confidence. Happy to become a new subscriber!
Great video! Love the mention of consideration for other classes and the mention of limit break. I remember being taken off-guard during The Soul of the Creator and needing to Tank LB, but was happy to use it. Looking forward to level more of my tanks. :)
As someone who decided to pick up the role as a main one ( due to my fc static not ever having tanks lol) I am glad to know that as a Tank I am not special lmao
Haha, it is a thankless role and appreciated. its more about just not having an ego just for playing tank. Equal responsibility but tanks are definitely in more shortage then say DPS
What a great guide, you went over a lot of things I was interested in. Thank you for this! I am trying to be a better tank playing as a warrior, so this will help out a lot.
Huh, didn't realize the gap closer pull could be annoying for others. It's one of my favourite things as DRK because it has a cool animation. I guess I'll use my ranged skill from now on. Unless I'm with my friends. This and your sage vid were very insightful, if I see you in my roulettes I'll give you a fistbump.
Kitting mobs in dungeons is an exemple i dont see often mentionned when its so valuable to mitigate damage. Great guide for all people willing to get better. Really usefull to understand this mindset, even if you are not tank.
Hopefully many people will see this guide and understand how neccesary reprisal is while doing end game content. Mostly all of the tanks I've been tanking with on this last tier didn't even had the action on the hotbar or asked about what was it when I told them to please use it on raidwides, since most of raidwides are not too punishing others can get the whole party killed without a proper mitigation.
It is so important! especially with the current savage tier. Just from doing the first floor there is already 2 types of raid wides, 1 which hits like kittens and the other one which hits the group like a truck, so it is super important for sure
@@AzuriteTV Yeah, and on the meanwhile of those there are some of them that don't hit too much but still u make healers life easier. P2 haves a deadly raidwide tho, no mitigations and everyone's dead haha. But this is the first raid tier I had this problem tho, telling someone to reprisal this and that it's like talking to a wall lol
In that situation, where everything has gone south, yeah I guess kiting is viable - but any tank should have a measure of his team and adjust accordingly. Sometimes its just flat out more advantageous to not pull wall to wall. Still, very good guide and a fantastic start into tanking with a very positive mindset behind it - keep it up! Could make a tips and tricks videos for key instances, like the mech in Castrum stun% or using a heal to steal pull aggro from ranged spawns, or positioning ranged mobs with melee, although come to think of it the newer dungeons all tend to bunch up nicely.
I definitely agree to an extent, sometimes it's hard to make that judgement call though. For example the last pull on the tower of zot can hurt a lot if the mobs don't die in a timely manner. I was running a Zot with a friend a few weeks back when leveling my tanks and he was on healer, we both ran out of cooldowns and the damage stated to really pick up on me, so I began kitting and due to that I lived, I do agree though, I should of known my team was on the lower end of the DPS but I just didn't make the right judgement call there. Just as an example :)
Again very well done guide, I appreciate the fact that you take your time to go over everything some might not think worth mentioning bc obvious, very new player friendly, gj
hey azurite, ive been a tank main since arr too.. although this expansion i may have gone the way of the reaper.. xD but im a tank at heart!.. anyways just wanted to say good job on the vid... you can never know everything and i always enjoy a good tank guide! have a good day! ^^
I didn't realise how BIG it is now lmao. When I did my voice over I was under the impression it was the previous size, but when I got my example footage I was just like... wtf xD
Tank who doesn't feel comfortable with wall to wall here... and (apart from congratulate you for you great video) must say I'm grateful you mentioned THAT. I always ask at the beginning of a duty if someone has problem with simple pulls cause I'm not comfortable with wall to wall and just want a chill run. Normally people is nice and doesn't mind but there is sometimes that duty when you met "the triggered angry guy" who just... insults you for that, pulls everything provoking wipes, "Rescue"s you in the middle of a pull to force you to move (which I find it pretty rude) etc. I always try to be nice, explain, ask with good manners, etc, and it's so frustrating to be insulted without having done nothing wrong. I love to tank but this kind of people makes you feel really bad and ruins your mood/fun in dutys :( if not the duty itself. So thanks to all those understanding and nice players out there. You are awesome
That sucks to hear :( I hope those experiences are a minority and not the majority. Also you are very much welcome, I'm glad this guide has proven some insight to you :)
i learned that W2W in ARR dungeons is not a good idea when we wiped 2 times because of it ahahahha, but in all other dungeons i always go w2w even if im new to tank, i just find its a waste of time not doing w2w , i only have problem with moving bosses kinda and sometime i screw up cooldowns still i learned a lot from the video thanks. PS im guilt of using gap closer angaist bosses at the start , sorry meele dps in my team XD
Its all a learning process, the fact your doing wall to wall despite being new means your pushing the boundaries! Keep at it and just remember your CD rotation. Also at least you know now not to do gap closer pulls xD
I've run all classes to max to be versatile for my raid group and I've found I love tanking everything but dungeons. It's the only time I have tank anxiety. If you die it's almost always your fault some will think but you only can hold out on a cowabunga pull for so long. If heals fail or dps takes to long it can't be helped
This is where I've found kitting to come in clutch, I've had a few dungeon pulls last longer then they need to but I've managed to always keep myself alive through the art of kitting, another thing you can do is to pop a hp restore potion, these have come in clutch for me too many times to count as well
I did agree about the wanting to pace yourself. If someone challenges you to pull more there is No reason to NOT challenge yourself to pull more as well. The only way to get better is to make an attempt. Your party will learn to follow your pace once they wipe a few times 😭
I normally main healer and I've been wanting to tank more and find a "main" for every role, but combining tank anxiety and having to trust someone else to heal has been killing me. 😜 Your videos are very helpful and well put together. 👍 would you say any tanks are "easier" than the others? Or do you have a favorite for any particular reason?
Yeah I do have suggestions actually! I would say the easiest tank to play is by far Warrior, its simple and has the best mitigation tools in the game, so I honestly highly recommended it. Its also extremely fun! :D
@@AzuriteTV loving the game a unhealthy amount! the only thing im struggling with is keeping my rotation as a paladin going whilst also doing mechanics... not sure if that's a video idea for you or whether it's just a matter of time and effort on my part
@@RsTwins100 Check my channel! I have 2 videos with Paladin, one a general purpose guide and the other one actually going into how to recover your rotation, I think you could benefit from them :)
Hey very good video, I learned a lot :D I'd appreciate one thing (cause i heard so much different opinions about it): what is the best way to start a fight as offtank? Some ppl say, turn tank stance on at about 30 sec into the fight, I also heard Taunt + Shirk at the start but i couldn't figure out a good solution for myself. The "tank stance after 30 sec" haunts me, cause what if there is a 2 highest enmity ppl tankbuster like 20 sec into the fight? Anyways, have a nice day tho o/
Hey! to answer your question, this might vary by job (GNB lol) but usually what I do is turn on tank stance after my initial burst in the opener, which varies between 6-8 GCDs, this served me well in a fight like e12s where there is a 2nd in aggro tank buster relatively soon into the fight
@@AzuriteTV thanks man, awesome, that you replied so quickly :D so as GNB (it's currently the only tank I play) you'd suggest to maybe wait a bit longer with turning tank stance on I guess? Might be that this tripped me over a few times, cause i did it mostly during the second half of my No Mercy Window 😅
@@rippin93 Oh tbh its more like, how early can you fit in your tank stance without triple weaving or clipping your GCD, I dont play GNB like that so I cant fully remember the opener, I just know its busy, same with DRK. So basically you would turn tank stance on whenever your no longer busy with so many oGCDs if that makes sense :)
@@AzuriteTV Yeah that makes total sense^^ well in current openers it's about 10 to 15 sec into it, i will definitely try this the next time, I'm offtank :D Thanks again and have a nice day o/
I also want to add that it's fight dependent and that you kind of answered it yourself. In most cases it's enough to turn on tank stance after your burst to guarantee you're number two in aggro without stealing aggro. If there is a mechanic that requires to be number 2 very early just turn it on pre-pull and weave a shirk on the mt in between, no need to provoke prior here. Also for consistency and to not rotate the boss unnecessary you can stack with the mt untill you shirked.
I’m a healer main and I do play differently based on if y’all new tanks TELL ME you’re new. Bc if you’re new I can baby you and deal more dps no problem and that’s lovely. If you’re not new and I’m decked out in the newest ex gear please I beg of you pull more just make sure you use your mitigation well please
i have been a tank main since 3 months into heavensward and the one thing that annoys me is when i have tank stance on, enter a dungeon, and then it is sometimes turned off. never really understood why. Doesn't happen all the time.
My characters does turn but it's barely noticeable. My suggestion would be to check character options and change your controls from standard to legacy, I think that is what is giving me the illusion of not turning
@@AzuriteTV well its not "illusion" I did figure it out in the end and its combination of legacy movement and auto facing target that allows to be facing away from target and still use abilities :) anyway thank you for help
If you’re a tank and your not in “Earthly Star,” then you’re willfully choosing not to be in the AoE. Earthly Star is a huge AoE, and you would have to _willfully_ choose to not be in the AoE!!!
Most gear is viable for all tanks, as all tanks want as much crit as possible, the only thing that is different is skill speed thresholds. If we aim for 766+ skill speed, this will help DRK which is the most important threshold and it wont negatively effect the other tanks either. Also if you want your WAR to be more viable then meld Det over DH. Hope this helps! :)
I'm a beginner, and I have a tip for people making videos for beginners: Don't call abilities "CDs". It's confusing on multiple levels. Even if beginners realize that "CD" stands for "cooldown", it still makes no sense calling an ability a cooldown. And even if viewers then make the connection CD > cooldown > ability on a cooldown, it still doesn't make sense, because every ability is on a cooldown. If you really need to abbreviate, at least use GCD for abilities on the global cooldown and OGCD for abilities off the global cooldown (meaning on their own cooldown). (Also, but that's personal, abuse of language like that triggers my OCD - this time it has nothing to do with cooldown. It's almost as bad as the random shuffling of "they're", "their" and "there") Oh, but also: Thanks for the helpful guide!
I usually play WHM and RDM and never had an issue with tanks using gap closers to pull. And in hard content you use a countdown anyway right? It doesnt seem that bad. Plus every melee dps has a closer as well i thought
In regards to tanking especially in dungeon content, can you be Critcally hit if you are properly facing the mobs. Or is this a sign of bad positioning. I topically struggle pulling wall to wall on some trash mobs.
@Cav's Fighting Room Nah its not that hard. There are 2 versions, normal mode and savage mode, normal is pretty easy while savage is the hard version. I have guides on the normal mode on my channel if you like to be prepared, its an option but not needed! also a PLD guide if that's something you're interested in too :)
Hey, I do apologise if this spoils the game for you but this is spoiler free to my standards of spoilers, the dungeons shown have absolutely nothing to do with the story and are just the post game dungeons with their own little side stories
I just can't mitigate at the right time I'm a dumb. Gonna hit 50 soon and I'm still a dumb 💀. Gonna try to kite in circles on Stone Vigil and other pre- 50 dungeons 😅.
I have DPS anxiety so I play tanks.... I feel DPS class always boring (WoW or FFXIV my main class was tanks) In wow I liked heal class (paladin and druids )too but in FFXIV heal (WM) is boring.
Tanking is easy in 14....the problem is...the DPSs ,when you're doing pulls, specially at lvl 80-90 ,you know your limits, but here comes the dumb dps pulling more and more putting a lot of stress on tanks and healers... And Because of that behavior, I started implementing "you pull it , you kill it".
23:20 I’m pretty sure I know why Square doesn’t do it. But, it would be great if Nascent Flash and BW didn’t share a recast timer. Since all the other tank jobs have 2 party mitigation: DRK: Oblation, TBN PLD: Cover, Intervention GNB: HoC, Aurora But WAR just has one!!! One!!! And that is shared with BW. If WARs’ Nascent Flash didn’t share a recast with BW; WAR would become more OP, but it be nice if WAR had two party mitigation or didn’t share recast timer with WARs best self-mitigation.
@@AzuriteTV huzzah! \o/ it's funny every time I'm playing with my wife I ask "have you extracted recently?" And after a few seconds of silence I hear the extraction sounds from the other room repeatedly 🤣
I kinda disagree with the pulling smaller if your new etc. imo it’s especially bad because you are developing bad habits and are more likely to not improve or grow if you stay in a comfort zone. Rarely anyone will get mad if you wipe by accident and you might learn a few things from a wipe.
First you said every role has its purpose... sure but second you say yeah bad apples (bad or evil players) deal with it... this shouldn't be the STANDARD to just shrug it off. Some DPS even do it on PURPOSE without any penalties. Even when you report that behavior it's always just "blacklist them after the duty" NO then the whole damage is done and infected. Infected by what? Oh I don't know... take a sprout tank Who is REALY knew to the game... who gets bullied... who gets no purpose cause why should he tank when the dds can do it too (and YES most of all ARR Dungeons are so easy that especially in the beginning 30 levels that you DONT NEED A TANK)... THIS Sprout will delete the game again and is gone for good. Let's have a really bad luck year or two where all the new players vanish not even coming to HW. The game will DIE cause every game... every MMO lives from new players. And when no players come then we start having trouble with ARR Dungeons... then HW... then StB and then most players who played like years like you will say... it's not worth it anymore... games dead or anything like that. What we need is an Iron Fist against players who jump out of their role without any reason! DDs should only be allowed to pull Mobs if no tank is there and it's decided by everyone... or tank at all only if the REAL Tank died of Human Error like Not enough healing or way to massive damage cause of too many vulstacks or stood in way too many aoes or something like that. That's at least my opinion of this topic. I saw other games die by the SAME problems we have now in FF14. And I wish that this game doesn't follow these others!
I'm a drk main I don't give two fucks if my healer has to struggle to keep me alive, that's his fucking job, and just remember if anything goes wrong at all, blame the healer, and remember it's just a game so who cares, tanking isn't hard at all, easiest role in the game
You lost me at "tanks have an equal responsibility to everyone else". This is something that DPS mains say when they occasionally tank. Tank mains know that they are at the top of the pecking order. Always.
This bro is such a nice guy. Telling you to take the aggro off the dickweed dps that's trying to force pulls. Nah bruh.. "you yank it, you tank it". If I see a dps or healer run behind me to pull a bigger pack, I turn off my aggro buff, shirk his ass and walk away. After the dust settles and everyone finishes reviving I explain why it's not a good idea to be a douchebag, and explain that id likely pull more if the dps could actually burn it all down before I ran out of mitigation. Then leave the dungeon. ✌️👌
@@AzuriteTV dps means damage per second right? You do damage per second, you are not damge per second. They are damage dealer that do damage per second. Even as tank you are doing dps so it's wierd
@@Blackhek-BK when you put it like that, it does sound funny but it's a widely accepted term among the FF community and the devs themselves call it that so it is what it is.
This was more helpful than usual tank guides as they don’t explain what terms are or how to do them. Thanks.
Really great video, thanks a bunch! I definitely learnt a few things to apply to my Tanking improvement journey!
Welcome! I'm really glad to hear you can take some things away from the video :)
I just got level 50 dark knight and I only played paladin before and I wanted to watch new tips and guides on tanking because I had a hard time tanking from PLD to DRK and then I found this channel and I love the way you describe and talks about tanking, your videos really help a lot, thank you very much.
You're very much welcome! I've been tanking for a really long time so I'm really glad my tips and advice can help you out as a new tank :)
Pretty new to MMOs and tanking, so the explanation of spacing out mitigation cds through a dungeon is huge help
Glad to be of help and I hope you have fun in your MMO and tanking journey! :D
as a healer main I loved this video. why? it’s good for my job to better understand your class.
Please keep in mind that arm's length does not work against magical abilities/autos for applying the slow
Also with stutter stepping, don't move back in.
Tanking is really fun this expansion, so I'm excited for you!
Glad you found the video and it was helpful to you, I know you'll do well :)
Lots of great info, thanks. I’m running a pally but I’ve been away from the game for awhile. This is a really great primer to refresh abilities!
Thank you so much for this video! I don't even main tank, but knowing these things helps a lot to round out one's knowledge of the game as a whole.
thank you for this. I main tanked mostly in ESO and just started FF14 and started as a warrior. tanking is a bit different but this helped a lot.
Thank you for thie, as a beginner tank, this is really helpful!
As a healer, I would prefer to have a new tank doing small pulls than a 'veteran' doing wall to wall pulls and not using any cooldowns.
hey azurite, ive been a tank main since arr too.. although this expansion i may have gone the way of the reaper.. xD but im a tank at heart!.. anyways just wanted to say good job on the vid... you can never know everything and i always enjoy a good tank guide! have a good day! ^^
13:00 as Astrologian player, I've seen tanks wander out of my Earthly Star, and I'm baffled. It's SO big now.
I didn't realise how BIG it is now lmao. When I did my voice over I was under the impression it was the previous size, but when I got my example footage I was just like... wtf xD
@@AzuriteTV I think it can cover almost all of the Limsa Aetheryte Plaza now, haha!
Thanks i just started learning tanking and this was definitely useful. Also really liked the comments on mentality!
You're welcome! :) glad you liked the mentality part, thought that was a really important point which I see a lot of tanks just don't get
Thanks for keeping me humble.
Welcome :>
Leveling a warrior as my second class, at level 40+and my tanking looks like trolling or being extremely drunk while falling asleep. I need this.
Really impressed with the quality of your content and the occasional jokes. You deserve all future success bud :)
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you like the content and I appreciate your kind words, it really motivates me to keep on pushing :)
i learned that W2W in ARR dungeons is not a good idea when we wiped 2 times because of it ahahahha, but in all other dungeons i always go w2w even if im new to tank, i just find its a waste of time not doing w2w , i only have problem with moving bosses kinda and sometime i screw up cooldowns still i learned a lot from the video thanks.
PS
im guilt of using gap closer angaist bosses at the start , sorry meele dps in my team XD
Its all a learning process, the fact your doing wall to wall despite being new means your pushing the boundaries! Keep at it and just remember your CD rotation. Also at least you know now not to do gap closer pulls xD
@@AzuriteTV lol poor DPS xD in my team kek, its pretty nice when peeps tell you good tanking lol
obligatory "well done" coment for the almighty algorythm. You do deserve more subs!
Bless you, I appreciate this :)
I didn't realize how much I missed the old Overpower until seeing it in this vid.
What a prime example of a good tank swap. Props to the other tank :D
Only took us several takes...
Not alot I did not know but still good guide for the new players. Your gear fully being spirit bonded hurts my greedy soul tho lol.
Oh gosh, I got to make sure to extract some of it xD
I've run all classes to max to be versatile for my raid group and I've found I love tanking everything but dungeons. It's the only time I have tank anxiety. If you die it's almost always your fault some will think but you only can hold out on a cowabunga pull for so long. If heals fail or dps takes to long it can't be helped
This is where I've found kitting to come in clutch, I've had a few dungeon pulls last longer then they need to but I've managed to always keep myself alive through the art of kitting, another thing you can do is to pop a hp restore potion, these have come in clutch for me too many times to count as well
Thanks for the tips, a great refresher!
Welcome! glad they helped in some way :)
Also you're almost a healer yourself as WAR so you'll feel home soon.
keep up the good work, love the content as a fairly new player and PLD main :)
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words, I hope you enjoy the game as a new player! :)
Hey very good video, I learned a lot :D
I'd appreciate one thing (cause i heard so much different opinions about it): what is the best way to start a fight as offtank?
@@AzuriteTV thanks man, awesome, that you replied so quickly :D
so as GNB (it's currently the only tank I play) you'd suggest to maybe wait a bit longer with turning tank stance on I guess? Might be that this tripped me over a few times, cause i did it mostly during the second half of my No Mercy Window 😅
@@rippin93 Oh tbh its more like, how early can you fit in your tank stance without triple weaving or clipping your GCD, I dont play GNB like that so I cant fully remember the opener, I just know its busy, same with DRK. So basically you would turn tank stance on whenever your no longer busy with so many oGCDs if that makes sense :)
@@AzuriteTV Yeah that makes total sense^^ well in current openers it's about 10 to 15 sec into it, i will definitely try this the next time, I'm offtank :D
Thanks again and have a nice day o/
I also want to add that it's fight dependent and that you kind of answered it yourself.
In most cases it's enough to turn on tank stance after your burst to guarantee you're number two in aggro without stealing aggro. If there is a mechanic that requires to be number 2 very early just turn it on pre-pull and weave a shirk on the mt in between, no need to provoke prior here. Also for consistency and to not rotate the boss unnecessary you can stack with the mt untill you shirked.
That boss at 15:00 mark is hilarious in randoms, seeing "Perfect Legends" fall always a laugh. :D
We sleepy bois in dungeons xD
I’m a healer main and I do play differently based on if y’all new tanks TELL ME you’re new. Bc if you’re new I can baby you and deal more dps no problem and that’s lovely. If you’re not new and I’m decked out in the newest ex gear please I beg of you pull more just make sure you use your mitigation well please
Definitely a good idea to state your new as a tank, allows us to mentally prep as healers, and not be thrown off by certain things :D
Incredible work as always.
Thank you :>
Me, a purple parsing omni 90 tank main: "maybe I'm forgetting something, imma watch this video real quick"
For pld, would this mean starting boss pulls with Holy Spirit? I wasn’t sure if that was more for countdowns specifically, or just in general.
This is more for countdowns honestly, unless your waiting on your party members to catch up, I would just pull with a shield lob :)
Awesome guide! Thanks buddy.
i have been a tank main since 3 months into heavensward and the one thing that annoys me is when i have tank stance on, enter a dungeon, and then it is sometimes turned off. never really understood why. Doesn't happen all the time.
It always happens when you get (item) level synced. So if your (item) level is higher than allowed for the dungeon all your buffs/stances get removed.
A noob question how do you use "Shield Lob" on target that is behind you without turning to face him? it happens around 8:48
Yeah as I was recording this I had no idea, then I saw it when getting example footage and was taken back by how big they have made it xD
Hi, is there a set that fits every tank in savage content if i like playing all 4 of them for variety?
It's almost as bad as the random shuffling of "they're", "their" and "there")
Oh, but also: Thanks for the helpful guide!
What armor set are they wearing at the beginning?
On 11:00 How do you move diagonally backwards with legacy controls? When I do it I just start backpeddle
I usually play WHM and RDM and never had an issue with tanks using gap closers to pull. And in hard content you use a countdown anyway right? It doesnt seem that bad. Plus every melee dps has a closer as well i thought
I have one question why don’t you have raw intuition slotted is it not worth using?
The reason is because Bloodwhetting is the upgraded version of Raw Intuition, so it replaces it :)
@@AzuriteTV ahh I noticed once I leveled up 😂 was a silly question
In regards to tanking especially in dungeon content, can you be Critcally hit if you are properly facing the mobs. Or is this a sign of bad positioning. I topically struggle pulling wall to wall on some trash mobs.
Critical hits occure by chance. It's sometimes just bad luck.
What armor are you wearing?
Limbo armor of fending, its from the newest raid :)
@@AzuriteTV my paladin just hit 90, is that raid hard?
@Cav's Fighting Room Nah its not that hard. There are 2 versions, normal mode and savage mode, normal is pretty easy while savage is the hard version. I have guides on the normal mode on my channel if you like to be prepared, its an option but not needed! also a PLD guide if that's something you're interested in too :)
That was not a but. It was a tale.
Uhh, do you mind putting a Spoiler Warning? I'm not at Endwalker yet and I want to watch your Tank Guide xD
Hey, I do apologise if this spoils the game for you but this is spoiler free to my standards of spoilers, the dungeons shown have absolutely nothing to do with the story and are just the post game dungeons with their own little side stories
@@AzuriteTV oh if it doesn't matter to the story then it's ok :D
I gave up tanking after coils and level cap was lifted.
I just can't mitigate at the right time I'm a dumb. Gonna hit 50 soon and I'm still a dumb 💀. Gonna try to kite in circles on Stone Vigil and other pre- 50 dungeons 😅.
Use Flash !!
I have DPS anxiety so I play tanks.... I feel DPS class always boring (WoW or FFXIV my main class was tanks)
In wow I liked heal class (paladin and druids )too but in FFXIV heal (WM) is boring.
Since all the other tank jobs have 2 party mitigation:
DRK: Oblation, TBN
PLD: Cover, Intervention
GNB: HoC, Aurora
But WAR just has one!!! One!!! And that is shared with BW.
If WARs’ Nascent Flash didn’t share a recast with BW; WAR would become more OP, but it be nice if WAR had two party mitigation or didn’t share recast timer with WARs best self-mitigation.
If you not have damage - you off tank. Thats how it work.
Only just now discovered your videos, super helpful
BUTT
Pls extract that materia 😭
I did! I swear xD
@@AzuriteTV huzzah! \o/ it's funny every time I'm playing with my wife I ask "have you extracted recently?" And after a few seconds of silence I hear the extraction sounds from the other room repeatedly 🤣
My mitigation is having a lot of health
Tanks do have a higher purpose though…last time I checked a Warrior can solo a lot of content…
I kinda disagree with the pulling smaller if your new etc. imo it’s especially bad because you are developing bad habits and are more likely to not improve or grow if you stay in a comfort zone. Rarely anyone will get mad if you wipe by accident and you might learn a few things from a wipe.
Sometimes healers can just overheal me especially when I got heals myself it can be annoying cause there ain’t a lot of tank busters in dungeons.
Your mentality is wrong, thats a common knowledge that as a tank Im the most important and as a warrior I dont really need dps's or healers xD.
LOL, you're not wrong there, WAR is all 3 roles xD
"If they pull ahead, then they die." - The Healer
"I pop sprint and support my tank." - The Other Healer
CRAWLING IN MY SKIN... THESE WOUNDS THEY WILL NOT HEAL
"you're not going to be doing as much as a DPS".
Hold my beer while I do double the dps of anyone in my roulette party as a dark Knight...
✌️👌
Don't play ff14 it's all buggy
Stopped after 1:30 Just calling a DD, DPS sounds stupid already
Why does it sound stupid? Can I pick your brains? They are called DPS in the game but I'd love to hear your reasoning to why it sounds stupid :)
You can do what you want of course but stopping the video just because I say a widely used term and putting the effort to comment is a bit silly in of itself no?
