  • Well, this is a crazy video. Jordan Rudess, legendary keyboardist and master musician dropped by my house for a unique AI Challenge. I showed him an AI Generated Image and had him improvise a piece of music. I then turned that song into a Music Video...with no budget!
    How did I accomplish it? By using AI, of course. Namely, the wonderful LTX Studio!
    Not only that, but I'll also deep dive into Jordan's thoughts on the past and current state of Music Videos, and how technology can be a useful tool for promoting your own music.
    And that's not all. Like Jordan says in the video, Dream Theater Music Videos are all about the performances-- so, I do have a special surprise waiting for you in this video as well!
    My thanks to ‪@LTX.Studio‬ for sponsoring this video!
    And of course, the masterful ‪@JordanRudessKeys‬ for stopping by!

      You most likely are not part of Discord. They were given keys out at random intervals. Got in on it a couple months ago. So far the verdict is it's "ok". I found some of the storyboarding and timing frustrating, and video output was lacking. Has potential though.

    You know, Tim! I was thinking about how do I want to bring up my child! I want them to develop their own music propensities and inclinations towards music styles! I hope Beyonce Renaissance era will be an inspiration! But I will be against them using generative AI tools! Because the Rennesainse is so good! And it was the last good original album written by humans! I think it was the last masterpiece of original song writing and the landmark she left with her album! She outdid herself! I am looking forward to her rock n roll tour and the album! But it will all be created in generative AI era - and we will never know who uses which tool to make songs

    • @TheoreticallyMedia
      @TheoreticallyMedia  11 днів тому

      Well, I’ll say that one thing musicians always have over AI generated material is: Live Performance. A musician at a piano, or with a guitar, or any other instrument, performing on a stage, street corner, bar, wedding, massive arena…that’s something we all connect with.
      I think GenAI is great for assisting in the studio, but ultimately, a musicians real connection with an audience happens through live performances.

    • @TheoreticallyMedia
      @TheoreticallyMedia  11 днів тому +1

      Well, he (and other musicians) can always play live. And Jordan leans in as well. He has a few apps he’s developed to help sketch musical ideas.
      And what he does (and granted, dude is a pro level genius) is he’ll then learn the output and perform it. Obviously, he still writes his own stuff as well, but these tools are really handy when you get stuck and need a quick idea. I did a video on Udio (a few videos ago) that goes into more detail about this.

Xmass 2023 as a novice Just working with ChatGPT, Runway and very basic editing in Davinci Resolve left my mouth open as to what could be achieved. The song ( basic xmas piece (no Ai music) reflected on the austerity in the UK, against the background of an ongoing conflict in Ukraine- ua-cam.com/video/9Wfq7j1d9LE/v-deo.html Now with options to work with UDIO ( the other musician in the room) will be interesting.

    Jordan's attitude is super cool about AI. But I have to be critical and say that the video was just scenes with music. It needed human intervention to edit the scenes to be a music video. The timing is all out, it felt sterile. I've done a few AI based music videos (feel free to contact me for unreleased videos), but they have all used AI to enhance, not replace creativity. I feel that's missing in the example. Sorry! Just my feelings.

    • @TheoreticallyMedia
      @TheoreticallyMedia  12 днів тому

      Eh, if you spend some time on the channel you'll see that I don't believe that at all. You CAN automate all this stuff, but I think if you do, you end up with something super bland. What we're talking about here is using the technology in creative ways, and always with an eye on keeping a human direction element to it-- so you can do more with smaller/lower budgets. Particularly important if you're not getting the Taylor Swift treatment.

    • @cesarpadilla6754
      @cesarpadilla6754 11 днів тому +2

      @@TheoreticallyMedia I'm sorry but that's just wishful thinking at best.
      Unfortunately the world we live in has not set incentives to regulate this. This "human direction element to it" you mention is absolutely meaningless. What matters is economic incentives. The "human direction element" you are talking about will come down to a handful of people, executives at whatever company ends up buying the others, gobbling all of the market value of the entertainment industry into AI.
      Entertainment equals attention. Nobody gives a damn about "human direction element". They care about bottom lines, and driving eyes to content. That content used to be made by humans, those humans are being replaced.
      That will collapse not only the direct jobs, it will ruin entire companies that supply goods and services to that industry (like camera manufacturers, etc).
      It is one thing to actually use tools like cameras, lenses, lighting, computers, software, to MOLD and craft a video, and quite another to have an ENTITY make it for you. People don't seem to be grasping what this actually means. This includes you.
      Getting back to incentives, there are then two things to keep in mind. The first is that as this becomes normalized, no one is looking for a "human touch" to anything, businesses are simply looking out for their bottom line. The system incentivizes everyone to cut costs and increase margins just to keep ahead of the competition, and there is no counter incentive to keep "humans" involved because by comparison to generated content, they are inefficient and costly.
      Which is why you have all these people excited about "doing what you couldn't do before with a lower budget". Except, this is NOT a cinema camera becoming accessible to more and more people. This is an AGENT, REPLACING HUMAN AGENTS, in the creative process.
      The second thing regarding incentives, is that no one is incentivized to keep any other human involved in any of the process. You are simply involved in prompting away because the technology hasn't yet gotten to a point where he can just upload a song to a neat little app and have it spit out a video without you in the middle. Don't like it the video? here's three other options. Why should he involve you next year when that app is available? Specially fi it's gonna cost him unnecessarily.
      You have to be willfully blind to not see the obvious trajectory. Because it would be very different if this was isolated to a specific economic activity during a longer timeframe. But it's not. Illustrators, 2D artists, VFX artists, writers, musicians, etc, etc, etc all being pushed out of the market simultaneously.
      Everyone is busy "adapting to survive", "learning to use the new tools", with their heads underground not looking at the bigger picture. There has never ever ever ever before in the history of civilization been a time where all creative activity was delegated to a non human agent.
      These are not tools. These are creative agents.
      So to answer my own question:
      Where this will inevitably lead, is that it will reduce all human creative endeavor to a pretty hobby in a world saturated by AI generated content...created not by humans...but by other AI.
      It starts with people deluding themselves into thinking this is a tool that allows them to do what they couldn't do before. And ends with no one being interested in your AI generated music, AI generated videos, AI generated movies, AI generated games, because the AI can generate individually tailored everything for anyone with a couple of swipes and a click.
      And the saddest part is that all the zombies excitedly playing with these models thinking they are "tools" are just training them faster and faster and faster to replace more and more and more people.

      @DutchRall 11 днів тому

      Live Nation decimated indie touring years ago. Clear Channel destroyed radio years ago. Spotify aka Napster in accordance with the Big 3 killed any chance at fair payment per stream years ago. Tower Records is gone. Alamo Drafthouse just died in DFW. Etc.
      The Industry has always been a very small group of agents and lawyers making deals to benefit their bottom line. They don’t care if the work requires skilled union craftsmen with mortgages in Irvine or a teenage tastemaker prompting Tim Cook’s latest acquisition.
      These new tools will win. Same as Pro Tools destroyed large recording studios, CineAlt came for film, and Linn Drum made toes tap.
      Adapt or die. And maybe adapt and die. But unless a major solar flare wipes out the grid, this is the new fire everyone in the West with currency to spend will be gathered round to hear stories.

    • @Complaints-Department
      @Complaints-Department 11 днів тому

      @@cesarpadilla6754I just don't think it will be as apocalyptic as you're expecting...
      I mean.. on the one hand.. perhaps it will be, but yeah as an artist I couldn't be more excited for the prospect of one day being able to truly create at the speed of thought.
      I think the oracular nature of this particular subject leads everyone to have crazy visions of what the future might possibly become, even me, and for the most part we only focus on the elements that we consider to be the most important or alarming, but it's an event horizon, it's a great filter, it's a slippery exponential slope pulling us up into the sky like some sort of f*cking UFO!
      Regardless, short of smashing all the screens and destroying all the internet towers I just don't see how our species is even capable of slamming the breaks on this accelerating momentum, I honestly think our species has just been along for the ride ever since we discovered fire...
      I think there's less distinction between science and religion back in our ancient past and I honestly think we're about to come full circle once again and return back to a state of mind that is more reflective of a cyclical nature of time and reality as understood by our ancestors.
      I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that humanity is very keenly (and I would say: accurately) anticipating with great sense of foreboding some potential future scenario where the human species is humbled by our own reflection, I think it would be better to be humbled as opposed to entranced, beguiled and drowned altogether but I don't think we will meet the same fate as Narcissus, I think if we are doomed, we're either doomed to a sudden and violent end or more likely we'll be doomed by the kindness employed to kill us softly, which we'll hardly notice... I mean.. look. What do you want from me? Logic? Reason? I'm only human. We're all doomed one way or another, that's inherent to our common condition... the question is: are death and taxes the only certain things in reality?

    This video is really great! Your channel has inspired me to create my own channel. To be honest, I think it’s less than you think. And to be clear, Jordan uses these tools for his solo work, not Dream Theater.
      That said, I know there is a pretty vocal Anti-AI crowd, but the vast majority of the general population either can’t tell, or don’t care.
      Phish (insert stoned hippie joke) recently played the Sphere in Las Vegas, and their visuals were done in Stable Diffusion. And what they were accomplishing there (real time art generation at a MASSIVE size) wouldn’t be possible without AI.
      It’s a tool. Some will use it well, some will use it badly. I do think that artists leaving IG or any other socials is a short sighted move. You’re really only robbing yourself of a potential audience for your work.
      …then again, I don’t use IG. So, there’s also that.
