- You know, I'm beginning to wonder if the Borg are really as serious a threat as we've been led to believe.

Today's Thought Experiment: The episode doesn't give us a reason why we didn't strip the Borg ship clean, so I want you to make one up for me. Just to put in the report so we don't look bloody incompetent.
The D6 caught space flu and with the amount of bollocks we’ve done to voyager so far we didn’t want to risk catching anything
Sensitive gel packs don't vibe with too much borg stuff 🧐
The space rozzers were on the way.
I always assumed the reason Janeway didn't order that cube striped clean was because of the virus. Any component brought on-board had the potential to infect anyone with imbedded electronics like Seven, Kim and the Borg children - who knows who else might have been affected. better to leave it alone.
I think it was just too scuffed and messed up to really be of any use. Maybe they got some spare parts for repairs out of it, but any usable tech was just to busted to make it worthwile
I recently watched this episode, and it drove me crazy that the infant is not seen from or mentioned again in the episode or the series. It just disappeared just like Ensign Kim’s character arc.
Well, the baby at least had a brief life, Harry never had a life at all. We know by now Janeway has no problem with murder or genocide as long as she's comfortable she's not breaking any Starfleet rules.
I want there to be a band called "Janeway and the Borgettes"
I think they mention the 2 ships because there are fresh kids in the chambers. Basically to explain the baby and Echeb's brand new assimilation.
This episode bothered me more than any other. Not only does Voyager get handed an intact borg cube with all the tech they need to get home and just ignores it. Members of the crew repeatedly suggest the murder of children just because they’re Borg. A Borg cube is big enough for Voyager to park inside of and the entire crew deploy to repair, secure, and use the cube to get home. But they don’t.
Hmmmm, never thought about that. I guess because reasons.
@@pedrocortez3485plot yet again
Fix the cube itself? I think the Borg would notice that.. Also, same reason as all the other shortcuts failing. They want 7 seasons. :)
@@nisselarson3227but they didn’t even try… the writers could have at least have had the crew acknowledge the fact they had a mostly functional borg cube and trans warp conduit to use…
Listening away, half asleep... "suddenly a bord d6 appears"
My addled brain instantly imagined borgified klingons in a modified borged out D6 cruiser...
... seeing a cube, and knowing fully that no such fevered an imagining existed, and suddenly becoming very disappointed that it doesn't.
That "elder" brat/murderer... This kid deserve the worst... The Agony Booth? Yes, full duration? Oh YES.
Voyager was dark, this is the third baby that they told to go fk off and die.
Ensign Wildman's baby died in the "main" voyager timeline, Seska's baby was blown to bits with her and now this premature borg baby.
Even a dark and twisted show like The Boys saved Madeline Stillwell's baby after his she got laser eye surgery from Homelander 😆
Janeway and maternal are two words that don't belong in the same universe. If murderizing a baby Borg is what it takes she will replicate a special knife just for the occasion.
She'd eat it on rye with mustard if it brought the ship to earth (but she won't ask Q for help or accept his offer to send them home.)
Borgulon Deaditis Scan 406a made my brew come through my nose lmfao
I see a bright future for Ramrod. I wonder of he can see it too.
A future so bright, he's gonna need to wear shade.
Ramrod more like pullcord amirite
One thing I like about this episode is that it set up *Child's Pay* with the virus infecting the Borg cube. The same way *Unity* sets up *Scorpion*
You really brought out a lot from this episode, the interactions and negotiations. Makes me want to re-subscribe and watch it again. I'm curious about how much of a difference having Seven deal with them makes. Logic would say not much difference, given they know the story, the Borg side of it anyway. Humans recaptured a drone of their own species, took out some implants, now she is part of their crew. The Borg are so contemptuous of everything not currently under their own systems of control, or un-standard in any way. Thinking about it, it does make some sense, as their hyper-optimized systems probably don't tolerate oddballs at all. Which makes me now wonder how well Starfleet tolerates oddballs, and they do seem to be a lot better at it. While the Borg are ace at conquest, they are terrible at ordinary space exploration under a pinch. Here I was thinking they would be great in a variety of missions but they lack improvisation it seems. As for not loot crating the d6, I'd just put down fear of infected technology, science-y jargon, and how many of the crew do themselves have implants, because, its the future. Lame, sorry. Feeling ill.
There's a borg-infant in a maturation chamber in the first Borg episode. Riker concludes that they started applying implants shortly after birth. Who gave birth to 'em? uhhh..
did you notice the leader of the Borg kids is a member of the race from Blink of the Eye? I feel like that doesn't bode well for what became of that civilisation
actually, i'm more concerned of what that might mean to the galaxy if the collective is able to use that planet for technology and weapons development.
@@dellytancyl524
Good Heavens, you are right about that one. There's an even bigger problem with that particular planet though.
The surface of the planet looks like it gets regularly illuminated by its system's star - but the number of photons reaching the time barrier shouldn't suffice for that purpose.
If I'm not mistaken, the measurable amount of sunlight reaching the surface should only be sufficient to provide rudimentary illumination, shouldn't it?
Other than that, there is every reason to believe that the civilization on that planet is either extinct or ascended to a higher plane of existence by the time this episode takes place, right?
Ah, Ramrod. The things that are going to happen to him...
He is going to have his character dissected
They kill a child and for real this time..... I must confess I did not expected that to happen.
Excellent work again. Thank you. For a TV Show that I never watched (Heck I didn't bother with Star TOS when it originally aired on TV, despite my schoolmates disappearing to go see it), I find myself fully engaged in the stories thanks to you. Nice one. Cheers.
I have to say I was never a fan of the Borg kids. The twin boys were only ever in the background and the other two had even less character development than Harry Kim. To me they were mostly McGuffins to make Seven care about the fuckery of the week later in the seasons. Which also rubbed me the wrong becuase I saw it as the writers falling into the trope of writing women characters in terms of their relationships; since they haven't hooked Seven up with anyone they went o the next cliche of female characters: motherhood.
Those are great names! Looking forward to many pun times in future 😏
“…tell them more about themselves in the morning.” In the American south to “tell someone about themselves” is an insult or threat of insult, so this had me rolling around d laughing. It’s an old insult. I hadn’t heard it in a while.
Good ol Ramrod, Mezoti, and Gin n' Tonic.
Be me, having played a lot of RPGs and other games as a young human.
Only just now understanding what he means by a "Borg D6"....
Ohh kids. Id on't have them, but my understanding is it's a real pain to get them to go to bed i f they don't want to.
Coincidentally, the two ships in the Cube WILL be relevant later in the series, though only in a round about way. You probably won’t even notice or remember them when they do though.
The only thing that can save Spacedog now is a time travelling Spacedog from the future sent back in time to stop ... oh, never mind.
Since Kim doesn't have a personality yet, does he count as a minor recurring character? Can he be renamed by admiral patreons? Entirely curious to know.
He's like the red shirt that is forever waiting to beam down to the planet and be killed, never fulfilling his true purpose. He should be nameless.
I'm pretty sure we never see the Borg Baby ever again. We see the other kids for a few more episodes and Icheb becomes a member of the cast, but the baby?
Poof, gone. What happened to it we never find out as far as I remember
They were looming for homes for the kids, this even pops back up later as one of the kids is sent back to the collective as part of a trap. We dont really need an awkward line of dialog about how the baby got sent home and all went well.
The senior crew had an informal BBQ.
Per TVTropes as I remember, they found the kids species and handed it over. Or Neelix served it with some Leora root.
@@DanteCorwyn Finger licking good!
Thank you for mentioning in the round-up about how women are always written as puddles of broody goo whenever there is a baby. As a Gen X woman who is childfree by choice, it's a constant source of annoyance that most women are written like this. Personally, I have never ever regretted my choice not to reproduce. Thank you for acknowledging we exist. ❤
Remember when they never talked about the borg baby ever again
Too late to change Space Dog. Woof. Regards the Borg cube, yep, I'd have that sucker strip mined or activate the virus and send the cube back. A minor point, Why would the borg bother recording the names of children who are just going in the maturation chambers. I could understand it if the records were on the alien ships or the kids had serial numbers that could be linked back to something.
As for the borg baby? Have you heard of veal? It's been a while since someone in the crew was eaten, I mean died. Fresh meat would be in short supply...
the Borg keep records of every ship they assimilate, we know this because when they captured the Hansens, they also appropriated the technology the Hansens were working on. The queen alluded to this in the Episcope "The Raven".
I always felt bad for first….i mean the borgette leader. He came out the chamber with half of the borg superiority and the other half of his original self, a kid, at least that’s my interpretation. And while he is a dick, I think it’s just him coping with something WAY beyond his control or comprehension. I can imagine to him one moment he’s a child with his species and then he wakes up half borg, so he’s lashing out to gain control of all of these emotions flooding through him. It’s like he’s in a constant state of anxiety, and when he starts dying seven comforts him when he says “we are Borg” the rewriting of his mind to Borg overtaking that of his original self, finding some semblance of peace in that last moment. He’s a tragic character that, his potential was limitless and what he could’ve achieved if given a chance like seven to regain his true self.
For me, it was also a case of him barely holding it together and trying to do what he thought was best for the others.
@@ptonpc oh great point, I do remember him saying he brought order. He did seem bad, just using force and possibly killing to protect him and his collective.
@@unansweredquestion768 On the bright side, meat was back on the menu of Voyager when he died. Finger Lickin Borg!
janeway, is the second best leader in ST, after Benjamin Sisko, who was not a captin untill season 3
Where does D6 come from? I am not aware of the Borg ships having that kind of classification.
It's a reference to a dice due to the shape, like the sphere is called the tactical testicle or battle bollock due to it being round.
I believe it's a Dungeons & Dragons reference. A D6 is a six sided die, a D12 a twelve sided.
Spoiler Alert! The ships in the Borg bay are foreshadowing a later episode. It's an easter egg to Egips backstory.
@2:22 hahaaaa!
