How do you love rap when rap doesn’t love you back? From Rico Nasty’s harassment from toxic Carti fans, to Saucy Santana's unapologetically femme aesthetics in a queerphobic industry, to the assault case that put Megan Thee Stallion’s entire image on trial, each episode of Louder Than A Riot - the second season of our investigative hip-hop podcast - unpacks the unspoken rules of rap that hold the entire culture back. Tap in to our first episode at n.pr/louder-season-2.

You love rap the same way you love anything. It isn't based on logic, it is based on unconditional love. The kind of love that challenges you but forces you to grow. Play the jams, meditate or medicate, whichever you need. That is how God loves us.. That is what K.R.I.T. is sharing. He loves rap... and its time for you to share love too!

Jerome White but bro the MIGOS. DONT YOU REALIZE THEYRE THE BEST?!?!?!11111
In all honesty though there's an active push for trash rappers to be at the forefront. The music industry has always pushed gangsta rap and pill poppin trash to the front because most people don't have time to dig deeper or they don't care, so the dumber they can make the mass audience, the less work the 5 producers who make literally every song you'll ever hear on a top 40 chart, have to do. It's worked since the 90s and musics only gotten more and more substanceless.

ibieiniid No it's not it's a genre of music and a culture. Hip hop has been around for a long time it's not a trend. Saying low key is a trend. It's up there with On Fleek, Lit, and deadass for douchiest phrases I've ever heard. Only millennials who genuinely think the Migos are talented say stupid shit like that lol.

We only pray when times get hard instead of the good times because we feel like his job is done but even in the great times we should be thankful because what's given can easily taken away. The hard times makes you appreciate the good ones without the bad it makes you take things for granted and that's not what HE wants.

One of the things that I love about NPR is that it really gives artists a space to flex their skills, but also showcase the depth of their process. It also really helps break the stigma that hip-hop and rap isn't full of thought and emotion or driven by more than the mainstream may have you believe, because it often is.
