  • I dear anyone to listen to this score and NOT be whistling the man theme for the rest of the day. What a beauty. This score, for an incredibly obscure 1969 film called "Picasso Summer" (so obscure I couldn't even find any artwork for it--hence Legrand's mug instead of a poster), was never released in the US tot he ebst of my understanding. But DAMN, what a score! It's available on his official "Summer of '42" album, which interestingly is comprised almost entirely of music from "Picasso Summer" instead of the former. A really superb achievement here. Enjoy. As usual, this is NOT my material, and is posted here strictly for the enjoyment of listeners.

    A joyful, energetic piece of music that caught my attention 50 years ago. Just wonderful!!!! It sounds like youthful exuberance, power, and triumph.

    The wonders of Michel Legrand his music I always thought came from the heavens above -:France export, I value more than Chanel that’s saying a lot since I live Chanel but Legrand will be remembered four million years from now , the genius , the brilliance of his music , well there are no words just that Legrand is , probably one of the greatest composers that ever lived. Legrand how you are missed.❤️

    Totall agree it's awesome. To me 2nd only to Cinema Paradiso. It's a good film. I have it on my dvr....crappy resolution. It's a wealthy guy and his wife all over Europe trying to meet Picasso. One scene actually animates Picasso's War & Peace mural...pretty gutsy.

    The movie Picasso Summer came from a short story by Ray Bradbury called In the Season of Calm Weather. Somewhat out of Bradbury's realm of science fiction, but rather a search for Picasso. The scene where the main character played by Albert Finney finds Picasso's drawings in sand on a beach, about to be washed away, is quite powerful.

    I first listened to it when I bought my "Summer Of'42" LP back in 1984. I used to play it on, lie down and just dream away thinking of wonderful landscapes. What an incredible power Legrand´s music has. I was able to meet him twice and thank for all the beauty he brought to this world.

    "The Picasso Summer" was one of the feature films that was shelved due to production problems after Warner Bros.-Seven Arts merged with Kinney Communications, and wasn't seen on television until "The C.B.S. Late Movie" in '72.

    I have all this music on the Summer of '42 soundtrack, vinyl, from 1972, which I still play on my turntable. Hands on, don't need internet to hear it. Great stuff, and no interruptions from internet connections, or lack thereof.

    Just a word on this "incredibly obscure" film. Picasso Summer was never released in the US due to issues with production, however it starred two of the biggest stars of the era (Albert Finney & Yvette Mimieux) and I personally think it's great!

    • @frankstelt
      @frankstelt 6 років тому +2

      The film ocassionally gets played, and I've seen it a few times, and it is as moving as the short story by Bradbury. Imagine seeing Picasso's work drawn in sand on a beach and being unable to get to your camera in time.

      Like you, I bought this album after seeing Summer of ‘42 in the summer of 1971. I would listen to it in the fall of 1971 each morning before going off to junior year in high school. I still have the orange covered record album with Jennifer O’Neill smelling flowers, although I have not listened to it in many years. Hearing this music again takes me back in time to those long ago years of my teens, when like Hermie, I pined for the love of an older woman, but unlike Hermie, my dream was never consummated.
