Every time I hear it, I see her the night of our date in high school when I took her to see the movie. Yep, high school sweethearts. But we broke up in college. We just happened to run into each other three years later. God, I miss her so much. Don, it’s amazing isn’t how a song can generate such powerful emotions in a couple of saps like us. She took a bullet between the eyes in The Man With The Golden Gun and then came back from the dead to appear with a bigger part in Octopussy. For her, the Bond theme song You Only Live Twice seems to apply!!
Your right Adams was the only the leading Lady in two separate 007 films but Martine Beswick who played the Gypsy girl in From Russia with Love and Paula in Thunderball was also in two and the Asian girl who played Ling that set up Bond in You Only Live Twice was in that and Casino Royale (2005 ) as a gambler . Great theme and one of my favorites .
If you read a lot of "Bond theme's ranked best to worst", this is often placed at or near the bottom of the list. However, I think it is one of the best and actually when I think of Roger (who is my idol), I think of this tune.

This is one of the prettiest songs ever recorded. I think it's under-appreciated because it's associated with a movie titled "Octopussy'. It's not a bad film, it's James Bond...but come on. Really dumb name. lol
Rita Coolidge was not Barry's choice for the vocal. She was (is) a favorite of the Bond producer Miss Brocolli. As many as five or six different versions were recorded. The one chosen sounds slightly over produced, but it was the 80's and a loud drum mix was the popular sound at the time, which unfortunately dates the song. A bit too 'up' ie happy to be a great John Barry song.
