It's always nice to see things get fixed but to be honest I like seeing the videos, even when they are long, of when things don't go right. That's the reality of trying to fix and experimenting on things. Sometimes it's a real pain and these videos help keep me grounded in my expectations when I try to repair things.
I love watching these videos, I'm gutted you didn't get it going. Myself I wouldn't know where to start fixing something like that, I'm blown away by the fact that replacement foam pads are available for the head phones.
Another enjoyable video,success is over rated,I've found.Or heard,maybe.It's the journey, Steve,and what kind of shoes you got on.Chin up,buddy.You weren't electrocuted. That's a win.
Steve......just spent the last couple of hours watching a few of your vids (the women of the house are watching something emotional on the main tv so I'm banished to the study) Little did I know that on choosing this one as the last one....I too would be watching something emotional !!! I feel like setting up a crowdfunding page to pay for a group of us to get together and fix this damn thing!! I kept repeating bits and looking and looking I feel your pain brother.....
My ears pricked up at 12:34 when you referred to the isopropyl alcohol as 'IPA'. What a shame about the Walkman. I miss my old Sony Walkman headphones - they were boss.
You should see old Philips reel to reel players.it’s like black tar everywhere and it’s a sod to get off your hands, and it gets everywhere Great videos by the way Enjoying them all
I had a similar Sony Walkman back in the day. Spent 80 quid on it, which was a huge amount for me being on YTS at the time. Loved it but I managed to get sand in it and all the repair shops said "Don`t do Sony" or words to that effect. Don`t feel bad about not being able to fix something from Sony. Especially from 30 years ago.
Hi Enda, if i remember rightly I greased the teeth of the plastic gears and used the watch oil in the metal mechanical parts (spindles and motor). Hope that helps and hope you can fix whatever you're working on 👍
V-aLent E-ffort. That belt was more akin to "flat eyeliner"? (not that I would know, really). Who knew that something as innocuous (yeah, I said innocuous) as a belt would turn into another infamous failing part like the capacitor.. Really something. At least it's not electrolyte. p.s. One Yellow and One Red would have been FuNkY{er}. Thanks 4 the video.
A classic mistake with recording walkman is to forget to put the record switch back in the forward position. Sometimes the switch can slip down during the process. It will result with no sound in playback.
Do you know where the record switch would be located? I'm having the same issue as the video where all the wires appear to be attached correctly and the tape plays but there is no sound, only static (and the radio works fine)
I found it! It was on the underside of the circuit board right behind the DC IN port. I moved the switch to the opposite position and when I put the unit back together the tape produced sound!! Thank you so much for this comment, I never would have thought to do that otherwise :)
I still have it and to be honest I'd kinda forgotten about it 😬. I think I will take another look at it, i might find something really obvious now I have more experience behind me 👍
Hi My old saisho PS17EQ has come to a fault. The sound from my headphones is gone minimal faint unable to hear. At volume it's gone completely faint. So please advise as to what can be done Or where the issue is if more than one. Thanks
Nice to see this mate. Crap sound, crap video work, slight terror in the voice as you do things. Video skills MINUS, but then we see your slick stuff now. Congrats.
Looks to me like you were trying to hit a moving target. I’m only guessing but the wires looked to be disinter grating as well as some not correct in the first place. I wonder if the components were equally faulty due to age. Not sure Sony bargained on a 35 yeqr product life.
Hi . I've got a mint WM F65 in original box. Radio works well. But :( - the tape doesn't ! I've got the recording mike and the belt attachment as well. am wanting to get rid of it. How?? Will anyone want it . Also I have a WM -FX55 which works perfectly!! as new condition Both have original headphones ( including the rmote headphones for the FX55. I also have a sports Walkman SRF85 - No Manual. Love your video on the F65!
Thanks Pauline! I'm sure someone would want those 100%. You may be able to sell them on eBay for a good price. Failing that, I would hang on to them, as the price is only going to keep going up, especially if they're boxed and in great condition! I would imagine the problem with the tape on yours will just be the belt. It's definitely replaceable, but they are so old and fragile in there, it's not a foolproof fix. Hope you get a good deal for them if you do sell 👍
I’ve bought a new cassette deck as a retro tragic. It doesn’t sound like the old original tape decks. But the batteries last got more than 2 hours! Plus never ever buy a PYE product. Absolute rubbish.

This needs a revisit, Steve. It''s too cool to not save, plus, you''ve gotten a lot better and have a lot better kit, these days ;)
praise for immense patience
Thanks Lubomir! 😊
That plastic workstation is Awesome i luv all the different shapes.
What it was is the gray wire hitting the spindle when you close it up. Makes the spindle not to turn.
Couldn’t help smiling when I saw the sunglasses on top of your head 😆
I was also born in 1977 and I believe I had that tape, handed down from my older sisters.

Haha, thanks Guy! I still have this, but haven't quite got the courage to take another look at it. I still have nightmares about it 😳
@@StezStixFix maybe you need to rewire this thing. You have the exact schematics, and by rewireing you have good connections.
This brought me back and then forward, but ultimately back. ❤
Great video. I felt your pain watching it. You have a unique talent to keep going.
My ears pricked up at 12:34 when you referred to the isopropyl alcohol as 'IPA'. What a shame about the Walkman. I miss my old Sony Walkman headphones - they were boss.
hope you revisit it again.

Great videos by the way
Enjoying them all
Is the Walkman still in the shed? - Love to see a revisit.
Hoping you come back to this one soon, if you feel confident enough to give it another go.
I use Bref for such a belt mess. A fairly good choice because bref do a very good job in clean the goofy belt off the pulleys and hands.

Epic attempt. Shame it couldn't be fixed, it's a nice Walkman. It's hard enough when it's just belts, let alone fixing other people's mistakes.
Satisfaction ! When can FIX it !
Miss my walkman... Wish I had one... I have some Tapes I want to hear again...
Get one cheap on eBay!
Hows the old saying go? Do as I do, not what I say, or do I have that backwards, lol. Great content as always!
You're not giving up, Steve, you're just delaying the completion date.
nice attempt on the walkman but at least you successfully fixed the headphones though
Hope you give this Walkmen another go at fix it.
That would have taken me over the edge 😮
I got mine apart right now. I'll send you some pics if you like so you can trace the wires haha
1st class video to watch thank you take care kind regards from me kenneth🥰
Hope you Fix it one day ☺️
Hi can you tell me where you used the watch oil on and the silicone grease. Thank You

Please revisit this Steve, you will fix it now I’d put money on it!

Hi! Do you know the exact size/length and thickness of the belt needed to replace the original one? Thanks for your answer.
Hi, I don't off the top of my head. If I get chance, I'll measure it for you and let you know... 👍
That would be great, thanks 👍🏻
Bit late now but take a leaf out of my mate Vince's book and take photos as you take things like that apart , it would have helped with those wires .
Good video this.. love Walkmans. Hand a hand full one them.. then CD players and mini disks.. I wonder did you get it working?

Great video, still! Time to try your hand at this one again?
Wauuw i love to own this one 😍
all the kiddies will want one now after ss
Some of this seems like questions for Techmoan would have been in order.
Did you ever come back to this ?
i hope you can fix this one soon
Come back to this!?
1:50 Spooky. Careless Whisper came out in 1984, and the WM-F65 in 1985. Anyway, kinda disappointed you gave up. Do you still have it?
"Finally finished!" (another wire pings) "Aaaaargh!"
Have you ever taken an extra look at this one? Or aren't you willing too?
I still have it and to be honest I'd kinda forgotten about it 😬. I think I will take another look at it, i might find something really obvious now I have more experience behind me 👍
@@StezStixFix please do so, this is a worse cliff hanger than an episode of Dallas.
Hi were do i get belts from my transistor radio? Please
Hmmm...two years and no revisit? I know you've become much better at repairing things. You've forced me to watch you from my acrylic prison. C:

You could crush those headphones under a truck and they'd work.

Ever get this one going?
If you haven't seen a belt that bad, you don't watch Techmoan. He's run into that more than a few times.
Watching this video was like reading an Agatha Christie novel which doesn't tell you who the murderer was at the end of it.
Did you ever get back to fixing this one?
If you replace a lot of elements you might get into a 'Ship of Theseus' situation.

8:33 i think satan is trying to talk to you lol
can i record mixtapes with this walkman?
Did you ever figure this one out?
If you watch Techmoan he's dealt with melted belts a number of times.
Oh my, the classic Sony headphones. If you love being stabbed in the neck by a chunk of metal they're the best going.
Very fond memories.
WD40 in sliding contacts is the way on anything with sliders.
revisit this one
Revisit 😊

the melted belts are so annoying haha
Hi
Hi!
these things are so complicated and compact almost impossible to work on them
How come a 1977 device have that many SMDs and fancy ICs? I am amazed.
perfect with george michael coming on straight away
I’m disappointed as well.
poor walkman...🥲
sony=screws=pricey
ahahhahahaha GORGE!! ahahahahhahaa
ua-cam.com/video/Ua7nPKzOU1M/v-deo.html tutorial. Hope it helps
I like watching these videos but could do without the hip hop rubbish at least don't raise the volume .
Stupid Walkman
