    *SPOILERZ*
I remember the first scene, when the kid set off the noise. I was thinking "This is tense, but no way they're gonna kill a kid. This is kinda weak-" and then the blood drained from my face. Really effective opening, and by having the first kill be a 4 year old, it sets up that anyone is capable of dying, regardless if they're the main character or not.

Would also like to put my own point in there, so when the father wanted Marcus to go with him, was because he was the most scared of this world, and if he doesn't start being more smart and brave, he won't make it alive.

A lot of people, after seeing this movie, are like 'why did Beau play with the rocket ship? what a dumb kid.' My personal theory on why he did is because I actually think Beau might've been born deaf, like Regan, presumably. Perhaps it runs in the family and 2 out of the 3 children are deaf. Like in the store, of course even though he's a child, he is making slightly more noise than everyone else, like shuffling along the floor as he walks and drawing audibly on the ground with chalk. And it appears that he is fluent with signing for a child his age, four years old, since he doesn't show any stuttering in his motions when signing to Regan in the store (like he's signing 'rocket' with more fluidity than some adults would be able to show). That makes me think it's not a language he's picked up in his life to communicate with his sister, but it's actually his own language so that he can communicate. He may or may not have cochlear implants like Regan, (we don't know because his ears are covered), but if he does, they may be a bit non-functioning like Regan's are. And if he doesn't, that makes sense too. It means he hadn't had the surgery yet to get them, since his family is obviously pro-cochlear, and won't get them since that would require a surgery. My guess on why he took the batteries is because he's smart enough to know that to make the lights on the toy rocket light up, he needs the batteries. While he knows he's not supposed to make noise and leave the rocket, as told by his father, Lee, he's a child and is probably mischievous, and with Regan giving him the rocket secretly, it could've pushed along his decision to secretly take the rocket. And if he is deaf, as only a 4 year-old, he probably doesn't have a grasp on just how 'loud' the rocket may be, and probably doesn't know the true gravity of the deadly situation that he's had to adapt to in only 89 days. And since he's a kid, patience isn't really a strong suit, so he probably wanted to see the lights and waited a couple of minutes until he couldn't wait any longer. Plus, if he was deaf at such a young age, he probably doesn't have a grasp of how far sound travels and thinks he can get away with playing with the rocket when his parents are so far away.

Okay, I know it’s been a while, but this is genius. Admittedly, my previous mindset was similar to what you described. Essentially “ugh kids are so stupid, he absolutely deserved that. I know it’s a kid but he brought this on himself, what an idiot.” But if your theory is true, it makes Beau’s actions much more understandable.

I saw the movie Thursday night too, and I thought it was amazing. My whole full theater was dead silent, except the lady sitting next to me who got scared at the 3 jump scares (lantern getting nocked over, when the monster comes up while Emily blunt is giving birth, and when Emily blunt’s bloody hand hits the shower glass. She also was munching on popcorn SO LOUD. The whole experience was good, and it was one hell of a movie. More of a thriller than horror in my opinion

I was so happy that Reagan was an actual deaf person. As a hard-of-hearing person, I definitely have a hard time finding representation, especially in the horror genre. It was amazing, and the actress did a really good job with that.

I watched this movie at my high school for a movie night fundraiser. It was a room full of majority rowdy eighth graders. There wasn’t a single moment of silence because they were all just yelling “turn up the volume!”, and when the kid died in the beginning, everyone cheered, which was an incredibly bizarre three minutes of me being uncomfortable with my friends as a bunch of teenage boys started cheering at a small child’s traumatic death.

Same. I won't spoil for others unless they want to know and ask. Depending on the kind of movie, action, comedies, romance- no spoilers, those are just to enjoy. Certain dramas, suspense, horror- spoilers. thriller/horror is my fav and I've seen almost every type of horror, so I want spoilers, cause if I already know what's going to happen but the story and characters can still pull me in- then I know it's a damn good film.

The reason that the girl was not allowed to go to the basement is the same reason he father never took her out on the trips. It’s because her deafness would have been a major cripple in a room full of machinery and noisy mechanism like the radio or the timer we see throughout the movie. In case of emergency, she’d have no idea she made a noise and would die. If any of the others made a noise (like when the mother does) they could hide or have more awareness of the threat. Hope this helps.

One really cool thing about actually using a deaf actress is that she's able to convey emotion while signing properly. I have a language disorder but I tried to learn ASL for years (but, like my many other attempts to learn a second language living in a multi-lingual area my entire life, I'm still at "struggles to just speak their primary language when drunk/tired"-lingual). But I remember a lot about the language, including that where your hands are placed, which hand you use, and your facial expressions completely changes what you're saying. So for someone who isn't fluent in ASL it would be extremely difficult to get all that right while still using your face and body to also convey emotion.

What I think happened with the older couple is that the wife disturbed the hive that Lee and Marcus freeze upon seeing, was killed and her husband was unable to leave her out of grief or fear of attracting the monsters, so when he sees a father and son, trapped by the hive that caused his lover's death, he opts to scream so they can run.

I had to answer your question,., im 42 and I had my 3rd amazing daughter 3 years ago and 100% no lie , when the doctor lifted her up and said we had a girl , they hold her upside down to get the fluid out and tap their butts if they aren't crying to make sure they can breath ok but my baby did NOT cry and they had to do different things to try and get her to cry to hear her lungs and all that. They did get her to cry but took giving her a shot. Also my newborn baby girl we brought home and the FIRST 9 MONTHS she slept from 7pm-10am!!!! She was nearly silent but never ever ever cried. She's 3 now and still never cries. When u asked how they had a bab that didn't come out crying; obviously that's not because normal BUT it does happen. 🙂

Something too about the girl vs. the boy holding the baby at the end action sequence - I feel like it’s set up that the girl is more like her dad and the boy is more like his mom (personality wise) and I think there’s sort of a Lee is still there protecting them because his daughter is like-minded to him thing going on there - like she’s finishing what he started (or that may just be me pushing my own family dynamic stuff onto this movie lol)

I believe that the dead woman in the forest was killed by one of the creatures. It might seem strange that she hadn't been eaten but, I believe that in an interview with one of the writers or producers, he states that a reason the creature doesn't always eat their prey is not because they aren't hungry, but rather that some noises/frequencies can hurt them due to their sensitive hearing, so they kill or damage the subject in order to make it stop. My theory is that she was killed because she may have had an object like a pacemaker to monitor her heart beat implanted in her, which like the cochlear implant, affected the creatures. Pacemakers use frequencies in order to monitor the heartbeat, so maybe the creatures picked up on them and eliminated what was causing the noise.

What got my interest in this film early on (the pharmacy) was how the family used sign language a lot. I know the daughter was hard of hearing but i felt it really worked so well in the film to have this added in. Some films wouldn't have put this obvious detail in and i liked that it wasn't omitted because this puts more realism to the family in the film.
It was a good film and it didn't disappoint with the monster either :)

I think that (because of the way it starts) they've set it up for a prequel if this one is successful, which I think it has been.

So far this review is great, I really enjoy how they project their thoughts and base a lot of things off of that. It just adds do much more fun and personality into the video. The way they discuss it makes it so enjoyable to listen to it. So overall it's a great video so far

I love how John Krasinski talks about this movie. Something along the lines of it wasn't about doing a horror movie, it was about showing how far parents are willing to go to protect their children.

It's not "Why do they get pregnant?", it's "How would they get an abortion?"
Also, Chelsea I think is right, regarding the sex. Lee and Emily Blunt's character know about the waterfall. Neither of the kids do, or at least, not how safe it is. Marcus' first time there is in the movie, and there is an argument about when/if Reagan will be taken there.

    SPOILERS!!!
During the dinner scene when the monster jumpscare is, my theater just stopped the film right after the jumpscare and the lights came on. We sat there in confusion for 20 minutes, and these three teens next to me just started texting and making noise. The film came back on, just showing the monopoly scene again, but the teens starting vaping. VAPING. They vaped and texted and joked around the rest of the film. They eventually left during the fathers sacrifice scene, talking all the way out. It totally ruined the emotional part if the film for me. :(

In the original script there were supposed to be flashbacks of the family. So maybe those flashbacks will explain what they did before the invasion.

Squishy Amari there is something terrifying about not being able to make a sound. Like doctor who, there are creatures where you can’t breathe, can’t think, can’t blink. Such involuntary movements that you have to control in a terrifying situation

The point about the beacon lights and the neighbors - I only saw this once (loved it!) but I seem to remember the two children lighting a fire before getting attacked on the silo and no answering fires were lit. Was that not meant to indicate the beasts had moved in and killed everyone? Maybe I'm remembering that scene wrong but recall the daughter shaking on lighter fluid in an attempt to keep the fire going, meanwhile scanning the horizon and seeing nothing...
