I love the way she talks.

I thought she was Canadian, but apparently she is American-born... she just spent a lot of time in England, enough time that she started to pick up the accent slightly.
Calling professor Higgins...
@@kck9742 sometimes you can hear her losing the accent out of anger. IF you check the stolen chinese copy dress video where she rants, she loses the british accent multiple times.

Let’s all be honest: 40% of the reason we are all here is historical dress making, the other 60% is Bernadette. “Haters can fasten yon britches and deal with it.” 😂😂😂
Since I don't sew (lack of patience has wrecked every attempt I've made), the reason I'm here is 10% intellectual interest, 10% the satisfaction of watching talented people do their talented things, and 80% Bernadette. She has taken her passion and turned it into a talent, and turned that talent into a career and a way of life. I have a great deal of respect for that. :)
She is funny!!!! That is why I watch her. I love the PDF books I get from her links as well since I also have an antiquarian taste in books... and yes, she is also educational.
But most of all, she is funny!! I love her wit and her dry sense of humour!!
I love hearing her speak. Dunno why, but there it is. Oh, and the dress making is interesting too.
I'm here because she's incredibly attractive and I get learn something interesting each video
As a semi-non-stalking heterosexual male I can say that I only come here because Bernadette is pur-tee and she makes me feel funny in my shorts.

Isabella Lynn she’s addressed this in her corset video. Women came in all sizes in all periods. We just don’t wear corsets anymore...but could. Not all women in the past were tiny, the advertisements of the times did as most advertisements do now.....had tiny models and illustrations
It would probably be too expensive/time consuming in today's world, considering how the population has grown. It might also be inconvenient for people that needs to move a lot or just prefer simplicity
Well, the point of this project was to make an historical 'Inspired' dress that is acceptable to wear in this day and age.
And I'd say Bernadette has succeeded. I would totally wear this if I had it. There's a certain elegance about it that modern clothes often don't have.
Oh, I love this dress so much, it really does look so comfortable and fun to wear. The wait was definitely worth it. And hell to the yes am I getting those Shears of Destiny. Now I will perform, what I enjoy recalling as a professional game maneuver.
I can’t decide if she actually has a British accent or if it just sounds like she *should* so much that my brain is making it happen.
Blythe Vrindavana
She has some kind of “mid-Atlantic” accent with both New-Yorkian and British features.
I personally think it is because of the way she speaks. As someone who lives in England, her accent sounds extremely American to me. The manner of her speech, however is quite proper, which honestly threw me off too at first, as I have gotten used to hearing a New York accent spoken in an informal/ aggressive tone.
So yea, I don’t know if I just can’t recognise it, since a number of British accents do not register in my brain, but I do not hear any Britishness in her voice.
She speaks like Katherine Hepburn. I love listening to her.
It's what happens when you learn most of your vocabulary and speech patters from reading British lit growing up. I have a similar problem.
If you slow it down from ‘normal’ speed to 75%, Bernadette’s accent is definitely American.

I hadn't even noticed the thumbs down, I was too busy being delighted. After reading your comment I scrolled up to check. I hope she is taking it in her stride because it's not worth it. When a video is seriously offensive, completely useless or dangerous in any way it warrants a thumb down, but Bernadette is charming, talented, and offends nobody, she doesn't give bad advice either. She even treats her pet so well she won't disturb a nap on her feet to get her proper scissors. So cute. So the haters should take Pollyanna's advice and if they have nothing nice to contribute just be quiet.

When I watch your videos I realize how hard she worked for those garments and that sewing like this is a true labor of love. Thank you for sharing your sewing adventures with us. 💖
I've just watched a 22 minute video of an adorable young lady making a beautiful dress from scratch, a dress that would never EVER touch my filthy peasant figure, and it is oddly satisfying.
You might be inspired to actually take up some sewing if you watch Morgan Donner's rainbow version of this because she does it very simply. And then tie dyes the living crap out of it 💛
Also never refer to yourself as a peasant because the things you say to yourself begin creating your mental reality which attracts the same thing to you from the rest of the world. Not good self care my dear...
Another less time-consuming option is just to find a nice linen or cotton sundress and Thrift flip it by adding some frillys to it
We used to call these peasant dresses back in the 70's. I made and wore them a lot. Nowadays, Marie Antoinette gets credit for the style, but she was actually trying to emulate peasant style at her mini farm on the grounds of Versailles. Was the controversy due to the fact that a chemise was an underdress, and even peasants would wear another skirt and a corset over it, or it was frequently worn as a nightgown, or, that a queen would never dress like a peasant, let alone appear in a portrait as one? Probably both.
Those scissors are so overkill and i need them in my life!

Wasn't Marie Antoinette's "Chemise a la Reine" actually considered as "underwear"? But, she wore it as outerwear and is wearing it in one of her many famous portraits! What she did was very risque and bold!
You might say that Marie Antoinette was the "Madonna" of her time (Madonna, the popstar, made wearing underwear as outerwear popular in the 1980's).
I enjoy watching your videos! You're so talented!
Yes. It was a great scandal that she didn't wear a corset and such light garment. Especcially because the fashion trend was big, bigger, biggest in hair and dresses.
But at this point in time Marie Antoinette withdrew more and more from Versailles and had here own palace and small village built to live an as "normal" as possible life. This dress was part of her new lifestyle.
The scandal was that she wore a very informal gown for a royal portrait, and such a portrait was typically expected to be very formal.
The chemise was an underdress. It also doubled as a nightgown. A corset was worn over it, then a skirt. A separate bodice to match the skirt, or a short jacket on top. Noble ladies wore petticoats, hoop skirts, etc, in addition. Lots of layers in winter, no central heating. So, at the time, it really was underwear. Today they look dressy, especially the ones with ruffles around the neckline and puffy sleeves. This type wouldn't be worn as underwear. Marie was the Princess Diana of her day. Ironically, Princess Diana's wedding dress resembled Marie's dress in the famous (infamous at the time) portrait
This might be my favorite dress you’ve ever made.
Your meticulous nature blooms in what you create. WOW!
So beautiful! The camisole is such a great idea! But another idea is to maybe having an overlapping panel which buttons or snaps together beneath the outer bodice layer. I'm actually thinking of making something similar, but perhaps a modern take on an early regency round-gown. Thanks for the video and #historybounding inspo!

i’m absolutely envious of how long and thick your braid is
Me too. My hair is hip length, but its baby fine. My sideburns (because I have those for some reason - little sections that only grow to about 3" long) are literally as soft and fine as newborn baby hair and the rest is not much thicker. So in a pony tail I'm lucky if it measures an inch circumference at the thickest part. My hair is plenty dense enough in terms of scalp coverage, its just the individual strands are so fine that gathered together they take up barely any volume. I do wish my hair were just a little bit thicker sometimes.
The dress is stunning ❤️ it's on my bucket list to create a dress so beautiful as this! But would you be willing to make a simple vintage dress for begginers ? It's hard to know where to start you make it "seam" so effortless

Hehehe seam
She made a video making a chemise that might be a good place to start
She said the pirate shirt was a good place to start (on that video.) I know you want a dress, but then pairing that with a simple long skirt might be fun to start with though. A long full skirt like that was my first attempt at drafting my own riding skirt 2 years ago. It worked well enough to be able to give it to my friend.

Such a beautiful dress. Graceful and flowing. It looks comfortable too. Glad to know it actually is comfortable. Sometimes it doesn’t work that way. And as always love the Cesario content. Such a sweetie.
"no, I will not get over myself"

Love the way you swish around in your very beautiful dress. You make the world a nicer place to be.
So floaty! So whimsical! 😍
Related question: have you ever watched A Stitch in Time with fashion historian Amber Burchart? She did an episode where they recreated Marie Antoinette's chemise a la reine using historical methods and it's delightful. (The whole series is on UA-cam)
ABackwaterPrincess I have watched that series a few times. It’s so cool with how they take the clothes from paintings and do them historically.
I used that trick where you remove the single thread to cut straight on the grain today and I was so excited that I finally got to try it!!
Lovely dress. And the floof content! Cesario is so adorable. We need a guest appearance in each video.
100%. Every video needs floof! And wheeks!
spacewolfcub And happy piggy grunts and purrs!
95 eternities... the measure by which all my projects shall now be ... measured...
Gorgeous Chemise a la Reine with a very noble beast to add to final product!! Also, do not mess with Ms. Banner, she has dagger scissors!! (Which I might be trash and procure.)
Tryna figure out how to get a dress like this while not being anywhere near this level in my clothes making skills department
“*whispers* hi omigod you are such a distraction.”
Then for the rest of the video it just randomly zooms in on guinea pig.
I didn't have an interest in sewing until I started watching your videos. I made my first piece of clothing on my own and now I'm hooked! I'm still a beginner, but I have already learned a lot from your videos, keep up the good work!!
This is beautiful! I cant wait to see your sewing room tour!
I would live in that dress. Stunning
That dress is a masterpiece!
I'm in awe of your extraness, don't ever "get over" yourself the world needs you just as elegantly sassy as you are!
Love from Oz 😁
Admittedly, it feels rather odd the watch an electric, modern machine whilst having a lovely Bernadette voiceover.
My second favourite channel. I take enormous pleasure every time I open or close my curtains, purchased from Ebay. They found their way to me from a French Chateau and are so elegant and luxurious.
Oh dear, you always make me laugh so baddddd! That scholarly tone of voice and the olden style vocabulary paired with all the sarcasm, irony and snarky snide comments, I just love it!
Love the scissors I have had very similar pair for about 15 years, never thought to use them for fabric
20:00 Floof much appreciated, I thank'ee for gifting my lowly self the pleasure of beholding such greatness
I'm planning a similar project with lots of sheer fabric because I want to turn myself into a greek statue and this was 100% helpful
This dress is so pretty! I absolutely loved the bit where you were flouncing around the apartment, you reminded me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Beautiful dress! I come here for the techniques and methods and as a refresher course. The pleasant speech, the humour, the personality are all phenomenal extras. Grandma owned her own couturier business with 16 seamstresses in London, Mother took all the qualifications she could find and taught, I had to make my own clothes. As a teenager my parents bought my winter school uniform, socks, stockings, bras and pants, I had to make anything else. When a garment was finished and I had worn it seriously, didn't have to wear my nightwear out in the real world! I could present the receipts for all the materials and they would reimburse me, that funded the next garment. Talk about an incentive, ended up wearing Dior and Yves St Laurent, homemade by me. Then spent my life in Engineering mostly, now I'm retired I want to get back to sewing and am getting such inspiration from Bernadette.
Thank you Bernadette for all your efforts, they are much appreciated, you are such a consummate professional, a successful entrepreneur and so brave.
watching this while cross stitching is a whole new level of relaxing
Meadow Gray I know! I love to watch videos about historical sewing while I cross stitch. It makes me feel like a fine young lady of good breeding working on her latest embroidery -and in my opinion that’s an excellent feeling
