All solid information, as always. I'll be honest, I got caught up in the doomsday thing awhile and I put a lot of work into things we'll never eat, and likely never use for the original intended purpose. Sometimes you live, you make mistakes, and you learn.

It is easy to do. For those of us that see society as flawed. But when you get your hands in the dirt you realize the earth will be here long after humans are gone. So plan for a future. Whatever future comes. But have fun!

the best thing i think someone could do on a homestead if they wanna be a "prepper" is learn a essential trade that you could use to do work for trade to get all the things you cant either do or produce.say like animal butchering, animal skin tanning, blacksmithing etc

i agree wholeheartedly.....you cant b completely self sufficient, the most you can do is lower all your bills to a point where its a minimal amount of cash needed to go to town and get supplies.but then theres a enormous amount of work you will need to do daily to live this lifestyle

Yes and the older you get the less you can do. That is why most of the old farmsteads were multigenerational!

Thanks for the good word. I grew up near a nuke plant in the '80s and my mom wanted to prep to survive a nuclear war. I read thru the material she had that explained blasts (different types of blast waves, radiation levels, how far they spread, etc), and I concluded the LAST thing we would want given the zone we would be in was to survive the initial blast. I suggested we not worry, but just plan to go out and embrace the light/be with Jesus, because the slow(ish) death we'd have otherwise would be far worse. Which is to say, yes, some SHTF scenarios just aren't realistically survivable. So, it's better to limit your preps to those that will help you cope with that which CAN be survived: job loss, injury/illness, temporary civil unrest, natural disaster, those kinds of things. Anything much bigger than that, and all bets will be off no matter what you've done.

Great once again! We grew to reduce grocery spending. Lots of work, but the happiness of knowing where it came from is all worth it!

You are spot on. I have a few guns and ammo, seeds, tools, machinery and meds. Solar backup. I was offgrid for 7 years that's why I have solar backup.

I hope to get my solar backup in this year. But that remains to be seen.

@CollegeHillFarm get a harbor freight 6.5 horsepower engine and a 108 Amp alternator and make your own DC generator. When the power goes out here I hook it to my batteries and idle it up to when it's putting out 14.6 volts . At night I put a gallon in and let it run dry. I run my whole house on 2kw pure sinewVe inverter. I have 5 225 AH floor scrubber batteries in series. Well you know the drill. I have 1200 watts of solar panels from Renogy for day time.

Yep I have 2500 watts of panels setting ready to be installed. Time is my enemy. I plan to use golf cart batteries.

@CollegeHillFarm If you use 6 volt series parallel you get 12 volts but the AH remain the same. If you use 12 volt series you get more AH.
