How These Props Saved My Drone and My Sanity

- What are the best props for my Freestyle FPV Drone? I got several recommendations and I think I found the right match for me! I ended up buying the HQprop Ethix P3 props. The Peanut Butter Jelly Propellers are very durable and have great throttle resolution. To but the Ethix P3 (P&J) propellers to the test I went out for a flight, little did I know this would lead to one of the hardest challenges I had to face since starting this FPV hobby.
5'' Drone:
- Armattan Badger DJI Edition
- SpeedyBee V3 F7
- SpeedyBee BL32 50A
- Emax Eco II - 2207 - 1900kv
- HQProp Ethix P3
- DJI O3 Air Unit + Freewell UV Filter (protection)
- ViFly Finder Mini
- Tattu FunFly 6S 1300mAh
On the Ground:
- DJI Goggles 2
- DJI FPV Controller 2

What is the last trick/move you were super stoked about?🚀
I’m stoked about doing my first power loop yesterday
@@Handee_Andy Awesome! I find the timing pretty hard on loops.
Gapping the R instead of the 0 in the school yard XD
I had the think about this a few seconds haha, but I remember your game of skate video.😁
I like the trippy flick. It's a half front flip keeping the ground in the shot then roll back up and yaw 180 in the direction you were going. My second is the inverted yaw or knife edge through a tree
Good man . This is the way. I felt that with you.
Thank you Timmic👊🏻
Never give up! 🙌 Great video Thanks.
Thanks, glad you liked it.😁 It got pretty frustrating but I learned a lot!
GREAT! That's amazing!
Thanks for tuning in!
Free your mind! Glad you got it in the end!
Haha, indeed 'free your mind', well said. 😆 Last van mn schouders!
I enjoyed ur entire vid! Stoked when I get a new trick down! Or just some good airtime! Subbed brother!
Thanks dude, appreciate it!!🙏🏼😁 You're absolutely right, as soon as I put the goggles on I'm stoked too.
HQ for the win!! 🏆
They're great!!
Your progress has been amazing, and you have so much persistance. Keep it up.
Thanks!🙏🏻 Really wanted to get this one.😅
Love these props. Using them now.
I noticed them in your videos!😁
Great perseverance!
It was tough but I learned a lot when it comes to timing and throttle control! Thanks for watching.😁
Awesome! Powerloop it!
Thank man! Long time ago i've been there. Maybe I should!
Super man.
Haha thanks Jaco!
ERMATTEN and THERMAC.
The Dutch accent is killing it lol
keep it going dude! Great Video's!
Fully embracing the Dunglish🇳🇱😂 Thanks for watching!🙏🏻
@@_REMIE Hahahha a new word is born!
And your split s also improved 😍
Haha thanks! I feel like my throttle control during recovery improved a lot.😁
I have a huge box of props that I've tried once and decided I didn't like 🤣 keep it up dude, you're rippin' 💥🤘
Haha, when I ordered the P3's I promised myself I would get through my stack of V2S's first before trying them.. offcourse that didn't happen.😂 Thanks for watching!
Great video! I’ve been pretty stoked with the gemfan sbang props I was running on my 5” until my esc caught fire. Now I’m super stoked that Skystars is shipping me a new esc no questions asked other than my name and address. Awesome customer service! And I think they are sending the 60 amp version instead of the 45. It was a pretty wicked fire!
Thanks man! Damn, your drone catching fire must be a crazy sight.. did the motors get jammed or anything?
@@_REMIE nah I don’t know what happened. The esc just burst into flames, roasted my O3 camera cable, and desoldered all the motor wires. Hopefully that never happens again lol
Holy crap! Sounds scary..
lots of good props out there. Few advices : lower your rates : switch to actual rates on betaflight and start finding something nice in Actual : you want more resolution in the center and some expo. Also for a begginer you have too much Kv, I would go on your PID profile tab and find the motor_output_limit settings, and set it at 85% . That will be like having a 0.85*1900=1615kv motor, which you will find is plenty already, and you will have longer flight times. I do this on most of my quads.
Once you've done that, go practice flying super low and taking wide long turns without chaging your altitude , make yourself a track and try to fly it smooth and fast.
Have fun !
Advice much appreciated dude!🤙🏻 Some time has past since I made this video (it's from May this year). I just uploaded a recap video of 2023 if you're curious.
Thanks again for helping a homie out. This is what makes this community so awesome!
Great video
Thanks, glad you liked it!😁
Cool video!
Glad you liked it, thanks for taking the time to let me know.🙏🏻 Appreciate it!
I’ve found that the Gemfan hurricane 51433 are amazingly durable, I used those Ethix for a while and found that they were a bit stiff and didn’t straighten easily
Good to know, I like the Ethix for now, but aways open to try new stuff!
I see the gemfam 51433 are pretty high pitched. I had the HQprops V2S before which also have a pitch of 4.3. I found it pretty hard to control the throttle, but that could be my skills.
I also read altitude can impact thrust, lower altitude = more thurst or something. I live in The Netherlands which is at and below sea level for the most part so you need less pitch here.
I do like the bite of the higher pitch!
@@_REMIE that is true…I am at sea level
I see they atleast come in black, instead of the hideous p&j colors.😅 The local droneshop here sells the Gemfan for 55 cents less compared to the P3's. Adds up in the long run!
Thanks for sharing!
@@_REMIEI agree with this guy gemfan hurricane are badass
these props work for me too. heavy and powerfull 5"
stoked to not crash as much. tis really pricey hobby for beginners
Great thing to be stoked about.😄 It can get expensive really fast.. I always have mixed feelings when I end a session with my drone in one piece. It's nice it's not broken, but did I push it enough though?🤔
Amazing man! I to change to Ethix but not P3, i take S3. next will be P3 :D. But S3 works for me very well. Im too beginner (3/4 year of flying) so im still trying new stuff. Good luck.
The S3's seem nice aswell! Thanks for watching and good luck to you too.😁
I just started, and randomly bought those props because I thought they looked cool, but they work so well on my new build! So glad I accidentally got some good ones.
Lucky man! Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket, haha.😉 Enjoy your quad!!😁
@@_REMIE I'm afraid I already used all my luck lol. Thanks! My quad flies amazingly
great stuff, i dont do a lot of tricks, i'm still pleased if i do a tidy powerloop hehehe, you made that trick very tough because there wasnt a lot of visual cue's to help eyeball the entry and doing it on a windy day........ you should think you are ten times better than this, when the wind drops you will feel like a master hehehe. dont forget to practise tight spots, mr steele rarely goes above 30kmh, its all relative to how tight the spot is, also i enjoy flying super slow through tree branches and impossible spots, not for everybody but great for cinematics, and landing in tiny spots on locations.
I believe it's Bubbyfpv that has a video about how Powerloops are very useful to learn to get better control over your drone. I haven't found the perfect spot to practice them more, yet.
Great tip on the proximity flying! I'll focus more on this. I think the added throttle resultion with these props will help with that.
wat een progressie maak jij🤙
Yaw controle is erg goed man, ga zo door. “if you didn’t crash, did you really fly?”
Thanks!!
The last one i nailed : inverted orbit/trippy spin, but my favorite all Time trick is still the rubix kub.
Trippyspins look so sick!! Did it take long to get it? Rubix Cube always feels good, but I find timing hard sometimes haha.
@@_REMIE a few hours on the sim and you'll get it.
great vid
Thank you!🤙🏻
@@_REMIE hah wow, fast reply man, haven't even finished watching the vid😂👍
Haha, currently editing a new video so I got the notification.😁
I really like HQ- durable 5045-3 v3, a really wide blade propeller for ripping... and its loud AF.
Thanks for sharing! 👊🏻
He thanks!!
I found the PB&J last mont haccidentally. before i was using 5136 and they suffered propwash and slow acceleration...the low pitch props seem hard to get but fly so much more control
Agree, low pitch is the way to go for me now. I see a lot of people use higher pitch so their must be something up with that too.
Azure power props & gemfan hurricane is my favorite but also hqprop dp v2s are more efficient
Lots of great options out there! Based on the comments Gemfam is populair.
I have also settled with those ethix peanutbutter jelly's. They are the best in-between pitch for my Nazgul as you pointed: They helped me also to gain better throttle feeling. You should definitely watch some of those Chris Rosser videos about props, kvs and the like. He is pretty good in explaining why shit is the way it is. 😅 Like what prop wash actually is and that a steeper pitch will increase prop wash... Actually the weath right now is so good, AliExpress is too slow, to get all those replacement parts out to me. 😅😅 Cracked my frame, ripped the 6pin jst she from the GPS. Cracked the o3 cam. Shredded 2 dangling balancer leads from battery packs... While beside that building a 3 inch from scratch. Found a new homie in the neighbourhood that is also into the hobby of dumping money into this game.
The last trick i was stoked was... Going though two trees in reverse. Not Matty just send it, the jaw spin 180 and keeping the momentum blindfolded until the trees appear left and right. 😊 Inspired by lumpyfpv. In case you have not watch him, he nails everything in reverse. Always at light speed.
Waiting for parts suck man! You order everything from AliExpress? I order parts mainly from a dutch webshop or from German shop called N-Factory. Delivery is within a few days, if not the next day even.
I watched a lot of the science videos you mentioned, it can be a bit too much sometimes haha. But definitely helps making the right choice sometimes.
Cool move, Lumpy is insane and a true inspiration. I wonder how much he spends on parts every week.😂
Hahaha, I know. Like seeing faces from non drone people when telling them I fly a self build drone with goggles just for the sake of doing loopings.😂
@@_REMIE sorry for my fucked up voice. Struggle through a minor flu. ua-cam.com/video/ulmKqQ1xlv4/v-deo.html hope the link works.
Great stuff, you (re)design and print by yourself? Looks fun! And these props are looking awesome.😁 What is the weight of the 3" compared to your 5"?
@@_REMIE redesign, adapt. Since the printable files are mostly not open. (Meshes instead of construction files.) So the only way to modify them is to redesign them. The offered arm guards didn't fit the 9mm motor base. A viable gps mount is not existing etc. On the other hand, I did enjoy doing such small engineering/designing stuff before. This new hobby also delivered more challenging tasks. So kind of win/win.
The 3 inch will weight ready to take off around 270g. With a thrust to weight ratio of 9:1.
Dude pbgs are the best props I've ever had
Haha, thanks for watching dude!🙏🏻
