Thanks Max. after getting a wireless Mic for a wedding last autumn, I figured it would be nice to do a few videos this year. I have tree identification in mind, or covering how trees can grow solo as well as in groves. Many ideas to choose from. Cheers, MDV
I'm visiting the largest redwoods in July, and I wished people would make a boardwalk to protect the vegetation in the grove of titans, until you showed that crushed bridge. Old Man has a branch 9 feet across. That specific branch probably won't fall, but god only knows what kind of damage limbs like that could do to a boardwalk (or people) if they fell. Not to mention that entire trees can fall on these boardwalks. I don't know what your position is on the topic of protecting these groves from traffic (I'd love to hear it), but that bridge completely changed my mind.
If trails like Boyscout tree trail suffice in parts of the park, I felt that social paths with a little extra gravel would be sufficient, and a few split rails in a few spots to direct flow of people. If decks are built, my hope is the smallest possible to spare expense and reduce the size of a target for falling wood. Increased hazard of people being beneath potential breakage may hinge on whether the grove is commercialized and advertised. If it only spreads word of mouth, quite a few people will go anyway. If the parks, after improvements, posts signs, brochures and bulletins with the name, it could triple the number of people and potential for injury.
Excellent video, Mario. You are an accomplished present with tons of information... Well done.
Excellent video, Mario! I hope you continue making videos. Very informative and interesting.
