One of my favorite friendly conversations on frequency happened between a WizzAir pilot and Budapest approach during the 2016 European Football Championship. The pilot asked for the scores of the two matches that evening. The controller only had the result of the earlier match right away, so he asked the tower off-frequency who had the result of the other match and relayed it to the pilot.
I love this. We’re not supposed to chat on the frequencies, but it’s been so quiet lately (I’ve been back flying for 2 weeks), I don’t blame them for taking the opportunity to say hello. Very heartwarming.
Always love these small coverstations on freq. I regularly receive these kind of exchanges in the evening on 123.450. Pilots trying planning to see each other and grap a beer for example... 'on monday i'm in New York' 'oh, i'm in Dubai then, how about friday?' 'Hongkong, landing there in the afternoon my friend'. 'Thats great, me too. I know a place there.', kind of talks.
is this really a thing? I always thought pilots were kind of lonely... Do you usually have 123.45 on COM2 and talk to each other? Never seen that on youtube at least.
One time in vatsim I had to do some homework while cruising on autopilot, everyone on frequency was just joking about it, the controller was actually a teacher! It was wholesome af, pilots are nice :)
It's funny how the Aussie pilot is so friendly and direct, and the Lux pilot is a bit short and reserved in the beginning, but then opens up after a little bit. =)
Don't be so sure. Was once in a convoy with two collagues and chitchatting all the way on our CB radios... At some point a random ham radio guy started asking questions as we got closer to his base station and said he had been listening our conversation for the last hour but we just couldn't hear him before 😂 sometimes it was also fun to drive at night behind another talkative pair and eavesdrop on their stories...
@@user-pr4ww4pt1x depends on radio and if you will even have one... Our trucks had them but you could only hear a couple kilometers away with standard antennas. In the mid 70s flew into SeaTac one evening for a tour of approach facility and tower as part of instrument ground school in a new Archer. Departing about 20:30 the tower controller had about two minute conversation with me about the Archer. He had just purchased one and was curious how I liked the aircraft. I told him I was only a renter but thought it was a nice plane. He was very pleasant to talk to. Definitely can’t do that today.
That was so cute! That CP pilot was so Aussie! He really cracked me up. Fortunately, I'm really used to the accent so I don't have much trouble understanding it. The other bloke said he was from Luxembourg? Do they speak German there, because he sounded like he had a very strong German accent. It's so nice to hear people being friendly and funny for a change. Thanks a lot!
Hi! People of Luxembourg usually speak several languages, but "Lëtzebuergesch" as a native language has a proportion of about 50%. Most people speak German, French and English as well. Official languages, e.g. in communication with government agencies, are Lëtzebuergesch, French and German. Luxembourg is a small European nation with a population of about 600.000, so the boarder to France, Belgium and Germany is near, hence a noticeable proportion of people commute from France, Belgium or Germany to Luxembourg for work. About 10% of residents in Luxembourg even have the German nationality.
