Cathay Pacific "A Day in The Life of a Pilot"

- Behind every flight is the effort of all our great people. "A Day in The Life" series follows some of our staff through a typical day. In this video, we follow Cathay Pacific Senior First Officer Richard Clausen from his home to take-off. And after a day with Richard, you can meet other members of the team at cathaypacific.com/people
I had the pleasure of flying Cathay Pacific 61 years ago in a twin engine, tail dragging DC-3 from Manila in the Phillipines to Labuan, British North Borneo. We stopped along the way at a couple of small airports in North Borneo.
joepeh1 sounds like an awesome experience

Recently flew Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to Seoul. Wonderful experience! One of the best airlines in my opinion. I'm from New Zealand.
Great video Richard, you've spoken extemporaneously throughout the entire video & you've sounded super amazing!
Congratulations Mr clausen!
This video still feels modern 7 years later

Did he die?
I love this series of videos! and this is why I trust flying with Cathay Pacific!
I didn't expect to see these three guys in this video. I brought them the cargo manifest to sign just last week. I was very impressed by the instrument panel in the cockpit.
"A day in the life" The flight hasn't even started yet and its the end of the video!

Haha are u for real? He's a pilot do u honestly want him to have a camera strapped to him for a whole flight? Plane crashed and the flight data recorder shows him talking to a camera instead of going his job he would end up with his name blackened !
wow, I've been wanted to be a Cathay Pacific pilot for quite a while now. I finally get a feeling of what it's like, thank you so much for this amazing video!
nice dream
Cathey Pacific for me as to be one of the best Airlines.

Captain Evan sumerfield was one of the captain on Cathy Pacific when I went to Hong Kong from London in 2003

My cousin is a A330 senior first officer for the Cathay's A333's! It is so awesome to have a family that just adores planes. I hope to follow my cousins tracks... One day :)
Wow he is in his 30's and already a FO the 330 and 340... Thats something to be damn proud of. We don't see that to often over here in the USA...
Amazing video!
Cathay Pacific is the best airline. Keep up the good work.

@@matt309 Seniority and flight experience says alot. That person can pull off 150k usd according to their website, which is alot. Keep in mind, HK has one of the lowest income taxes too.

@@77l96 I know right!. Aviation is growing in China because of rapid demand of transportation (population growth) hence demand of experienced pilots.
I'm 17 and have got my ppl and it was the hardest thing ever with all the tests and so on, im starting ATPL training with CTC next summer. One thing to say to all the young ones wanting to train either for ppl or ATPL good luck but remember that it is a very hard proffesion to get into
Good luck to all of you 😃
howd you do
Harry Broadbent r u a pilot now?
Thank you!
Making such a video is definitely the best way of advertising yourself. )))) But those are nice guys, I loved watching it. )
So sad to hear of what happened to your pilots lately due to the current HK protests. I actually like that pilot who informed the passengers on flight about what they could expect on arrival at HK airport due to the protest, so we could prepare what we might see on arrival. It is really great for a pilot to do so. I wish them all the best.
great video!!
I enjoy meeting new people too!!!! 😁 ☺ First Officer Richard Clausen.
Flew on Cathay Pacific a few years ago from LAX to Hong Kong, back again. Best, most professional airline I'd ever been on. Puts US airlines to absolute shame. I say that as a former private pilot who generally doesn't like to fly commercial. Loved C-P!
Finishing my CPL this year, really hope can be there one day!
i watched this video like 4 times :)
coolest pilot❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw this guy at Hong Kong airport this morning lol
金正恩朝鮮労働委員長 really?

Yes absolutely. Listen to some ATC frequencies and you'll get an idea of what kind of communications you need to perform.
I wanna be a pilot when I grow up

Bro are u a pilot now.
Hope you're a pilot now buddy!
I don’t know about him but I am now
I am a b52 bomber pilot
Aaaaaa makes me wanna be a pilot moreeee. Next year i'm going to take aeronautical engineering before i take flying school. I'm so excited!
You'll never succeed. This is a very difficult job only available to the best people. Have you thought about becoming a shop assistant?
I like ! that is a day after day for a a pilot ! thanks for show =)
It is my childhood dream to be a pilot, though after 27 years I'm still no where close to be one I'm not giving up.
Are you a pilot now?!
hi did you get there ?

@@mcp12312he is. He posted another channel
I've always wanted to be a 747 pilot. My grandfather was a 747 pilot for thirty years for TWA until his retirement in early 2001 that's what got me interested in the 747. Now they are old planes being retired, so not gonna happen...
You know there's coming called a 747-8 right?
So you wanted to become a pilot for the 747, and not purely for aviation itself? As MrOGseed said, the 747-8i is in production, however, it isn't as popular as the 777. If you really wanted to be a pilot, you'd do it regardless of an airliner being phased out.
chris pryazhentsev So basically, it was because flying a 747 made you feel good and look cool? You wouldn't have become a pilot with that logic. You start at the bottom with ATR's and Dash 8's, then work up to 737's and A320's, and eventually you fly the big birds. There's always the -8i variant.

Hello Richard Clausen! You have a nice work. Seldom guys have work like you Richard.
Awesome!
Cathay Pacific Has Been Part Of My Childhood
Fascinating
I think I was on his flight to Incheon Airport from Hong Kong. PS: I'm South African and he sounds South African
I was soOo excited when I heard his accent over the PA system as I was leaving South Africa for a long period of time and the last familiarity of home was just great 👌
Yup, he's South African.
great video
Absolutely well taken great day....
This has inspired me. I have a future dream!
Inspiring.
Nice video handsome pilot
Richard looks like he Is Danish but has the accent of a South African.
Kos Pep YES! I thought he was South African 🙈😂

South Africans originated from the dutch
Because he is South African

Nice! Thats my ambiton before...And If given the opportunity I will pursue that dream again...What Officer Clausen told when he was young is exactly the same as what i have done collecting planes....etc...
Go for it !!!! You'll be flying in no time....
Imagine having a daily job like this!!! What a dream.
The average schedule for a pilots week usually involves 3 straight days of work(but this includes in-between flight were you get to rest and relax...usually in hotels or you can explore the city/town) and then 3 days back home where you can relax and engage in physical activities....However a pilots weekly schedule is not as "static" as most jobs and work hours can and usually will change according to what is necessary
amazing
I Love Cathay Pacific
To become an airlane pilot is my biggest dream, i can't think of anything else to do as a living when i grow up!
Art sweety... art!
Inspiring
How cute is he..
Thats suuuuuuuuper cool.
Love it i mean and i want to be a pilot in the future so i am now working hard and be an airline pilot for cathay pacific or airfrance
Okie
Oh
That is the best flying intro i have ever seen on Utube, i have always thought you need Alevel Maths, Physics, English. But talking listening to this chap he paid for his own leasons from scratch. But i think to myself he must already have this educational qualifications to be able to complete it??
This captain is indeed handsome!!!
Wow that was interesting!
Make more videos about pilots. And what they do on layovers !!! Pleasseee !!!
Not quite, the airline started by an Australian and a US citizen, started as "Roy Farrell Import/Export"...later migrated into Cathay Pacific in honour of the Cathay Hotel were most meetings occured. There is a book called "Syd's Pirates", very hard to find, which details the very interesting history of the airline...the name of the book gives you a hint of how it all started.
Woow! It's wonderfull :)
To be honestly of that airline... is kinda amazing! It prepares to that pilot really good. Same as to FO (Co Pilot) But Actually the A330 & A340, Goes amazement. It goes really go flying at nice landing. Same as going out to before!
This pilot speaks awesome Cantonese !!
And proficient in Cantonese, one of the hardest languages to learn, too! The guy can do everything :)
