    Wow, how refreshing is it to receive home project instruction from someone who speaks clearly, doesn't waste precious time going over needless minutia and repetitive details, doesn't omit crucial steps and knows precisely how to execute the projects efficiently and safely. BRAVO, and subscribing for life!

    As someone who considers themself an excellent pole dancer, I wouldn't dance on this. YET. It needs a cap over both ends of the pole, to prevent catching your toes (your feet, elbows, body in general) on the bolts in the bottom, and the sharp edges of the thing sticking up at the bottom.

      +RigorAmortis - Sure, a nice safety addition would be to fold a black washcloth twice into a strip and wrap it around the bottom of the pole and secure with black tape. Having said that, my daughter has used this pole for 30 minutes every day for just over a year, and has not had a problem. This would be a simple safety precaution though, and is a good idea. Thank you!

      HowToLou yeah, no problem, especially for anyone who see this and wants to make their own. I've cut my foot to the point of there being blood all over the stage, due to the end cap being broken and exposing the bolts. I'm very glad to hear that your daughter hasn't had that mishap!

    Do you have any modifications to make this a free standing pole? Thank you

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  Рік тому

      Standing poles are much more involved. You need a stage at least 2 feet deep to bury the bottom of the pole so it doesn’t fall over. Like trees have deep roots to hold them up. Another option is a large base with a fixed pole welded or otherwise firmly mounted. Regular poles are pretty simple, because they take advantage of the fixed structure on top. Unfortunately, free standing poles involve a lot more.

  • @slaydesantis294
    @slaydesantis294 8 років тому +2

    I'm wanting to install one in my garage..it has a concrete floor. I don't want that kind of base, or a spinning pole, though. I'm not sure that the base would work on concrete. I was thinking that perhaps I could build a mini stage, say from perhaps bolting the pole to the concrete, then creating a large border around it, in a box shape, then filling up that box shape with concrete, and letting it dry. Viola! A stage.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому +3

      +SLAY DeSantis - I would find a joist in the ceiling and install your lag bolt. Tie a string to the bolt and mark where it lands. Mount a non-spinning castor wheel to the concrete with two concrete anchor bolts. If you don't want to drill into your floor, you could try cleaning the spot really well and glue the the castor wheel plate right to the floor with Power Grab construction adhesive. Definitely test this for strength before you get serious on the pole, but I think it will work fine. A stage would be cool, but a stage is something to fall off of and takes up space. If you really want a stage, I would build one out of 3/4 inch plywood. Cut the circle, the size you want, with a pole hole in the middle. Cut a bunch of 8 inch pieces of 2x4s and screw them tallways as legs, all around the edge of your wood disc. Cut 8 and 3/4 inch wide strips of 1/4 inch plywood and wrap it around the stage and screw it to the legs and top surface. If you are having trouble bending the plywood, soak it in water for one hour, first. Maybe paint the whole stage black, when you are done. Your concrete idea would work too, but would be a LOT of work to mix that much concrete!

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому +3

      +VPfyi - I am 185 pounds and it dd not even flinch. I think the castor is rated to over 300 pounds and the steel pole is not rated for bend strength, but it is pretty darn strong.

    Great job on making the video clear, short, and to the point. Can you make the pole static as well as spin? And how do you make it for outside... just a wider base or does this already stand on it's own?

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  6 років тому +1

      To make it static, drill a hole to the top of the pole sideways and put an eye bolt through it and anchor that to the ceiling This is not designed to stand on its own, sorry.

    If I want to make it static, what should I do ? Thank you for this video.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  7 років тому +4

      +Sahnaa - if you want to make a pole that is permanently static, just use a caster wheel that does not spin. If you want it to be both, make the same pole like in the video and then drill a quarter inch diameter hole through the pole at the top, just below the ceiling. Attach a chain or steel cable to both sides of the bolt and to eye bolts screwed into the ceiling. Don't use rope. It will stretch. Hook up chains for static. Take them off for spin.

    Do you have any ideas to make this portable? I don’t want to drill into my ceiling!

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  4 роки тому

      If you have a light in the center of the room on the ceiling, you can take it down and get access to the floor joists and mount your pole there. The top mount of a pole keeps it from tipping over. If you don’t have a top mount, you would have to build a base that is around a foot tall and about 5 feet wide, so it would be strong enough to hold the pole straight up.

    any ideas on how to make a pole with only a bottom mount. i plan on making a wood bed cover for my truck and adding a pole with some lights and marine speakers. but i also want it very sturdy for the safety of the girls or just in case a big girl jumps on there.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  5 років тому

      If you don’t have a top mount, your bottom mound must be much more sturdy. I would anchor the bottom of the pole to the truck bed, and stabilize it 20 inches or so up, from the bottom, with the wood decking. Kind of like how patio umbrellas are in a heavy base and then supported by the hole in the patio table.

    Hi HowToLou, any suggestion on how to make my own stage pole? Both static and spin. I cannot trust the ceiling in my house, so it has to be a stage pole. Thank you! Noemi

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Noemi. The pole design in the video takes advantage of a strong ceiling, so it does not need strong bearings. Unfortunately, a stage pole needs stronger bearings and a stronger base. I think purchasing might be the best option for you. If I HAD to build a stage pole, I would build a wooden base about 1 foot thick. At the bottom of the base, you can do the same thing I did in the video. At the top of the base, you could mount four non-swiveling castor wheels sideways tightly against the pole. You would then need to cover with a sheet of plywood with just a pole hole in the middle. The castor wheels would keep the pole standing up, but allow it to spin. To make it static, drill a hole sideways through the pole, somewhere inside the base, and stick a metal rod through it and attach to a support inside the base. Big project, but possible if you have the tools or have a friend with them. Good luck.

    • @UCWarrior1
      @UCWarrior1 4 роки тому

      What would you attach the wheels to? The top part of the base on the inside?

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  4 роки тому

      Yes, basically build a deck and attach the wheels sideways to the joists, and then put decking over the top with a hole just big enough for pole.

  • @PolodrexTV
    @PolodrexTV 6 років тому

    Where did you get that caster wheel from? I've been searching for days, but every single one I found doesn't have the middle piece around the center connected to the wheel itself but to the static plate.

    My question is how do you keep the bottom from sliding? And can you make a free standing pole stage with a pole that spins???? 🙂

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  3 роки тому +1

      With your weight on the pole, the base won’t slide on a carpet floor. If you have a hard floor, you can put about 30 little rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from moving.
      It’s possible to build anything, but top-connected poles are way simpler. Since you put so much force on a pole, the base would need to be at least a foot tall and have expensive, heavy duty bearings for a free-top pole.

      @Erika Poe oh boy. I had bamboo shafts in my backyard and bought a wheel caster and zip ties. Worked well! :)

    can this be done on a slanted ceiling

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому

      +realbrat40 - yes, you just need to be able to put a lag bolt into solid wood.

    • @realbrat40
      @realbrat40 8 років тому

      +HowToLou thanks for quick reply but i meant to say vaulted ceiling and the exposed studs come down at an angle wouldn't I have to make some adjustments in order for the plastic top to sit flush or do you mean add a piece of wood to make the surface i will be using flat first

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому

      +realbrat40 - the plastic top does not touch my floor joist or roof rafter in your case. All the wieght of the pole and the dancer rest on the bottom bearing. The lag bolt and plastic "bushing" on top of the pole, just serve to keep it from tipping over. So drill into your rafter at an angle to the rafter, but vertical in the room. Put your lag in, follow the other steps, and you are all set.

    when I put the duct tape on the thing it keeps it from spinning

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  6 років тому

      +Hailey Blocker - Thats ok. You need the tape to protect the center so no JB Weld gets on it. The tape will tear free as soon as you spin the pole with u on it.

      My daughter has been an avid pole dancer for 5 years, and is now a top level pole dance instructor, and has a pole teaching channel with over 4,000 followers. She used this pole every day for 2 years, and yes she loved it.

    It looks like this is begging for me to slice my arm or leg open at the bottom. This is a great idea, but only if you cover the jagged points at the base.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  7 років тому +2

      +bre patterson - sure, you could make it safer by wrapping and taping a little foam around the bottom. Good idea. My daughter has been using this pole for 30 minutes a day ever since I posted the video and has not gotten hurt, but a little extra caution never hurt anyone

      Anyone can slip on accident. Even my friends that are in the national pole competitions slip at least once a month. Whether it be due to our clothes having too much fabric to where we cant get a good grip, or from wearing lotion the night before. Accidents happen. I would hate for her hand to be sliced open while shes watching what her feet and legs are doing

    how can I add this to my ordinary ceiling not in my basement

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому +1

      +Angelica Gao - Your ceilings are probably drywall with wooden joists above that. Use a stud finder or strong magnet to find one nearest to where you want to install the pole, and screw in the lag bolt.

    • @Angelicasvlog
      @Angelicasvlog 8 років тому +1

      how would I be able to install this without having to make a hole?

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому +1

      +Angelica Gao - There is no way to do it without making a hole in the ceiling, but its a very small hole and can easily be filled with lightweight spackle and it wont show much or not at all after you take the pole out someday

    I was wondering, what about an outdoor pole? what would that require, given that it'd have to be static and taking the outdoor elements into account

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому

      +Daniel Rivera - I think those metal conduit pipes are coated with zinc to prevent rust. If not, you could send them so lightly with 200 grit sand paper, and spray paint them with Rustoleum chrome paint. The biggest problem would be finding something that was 8 to 10 feet in the air and stable enough to connect a pole to. Maybe a play structure. You would take out the swings, and put the pole in there.

      well, i was hoping to do more of a free standing pole with a cement foundation. ive been searching to see some examples, but its a little difficult

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 років тому +2

      +Daniel Rivera - oh, i see. For that you would need to use the thicker metal conduit pipe, which is a 10 ft long by 1.5 inch diameter galvanized pipe. It has a little bumpy surface, so you would have to sand and paint, but no big deal. For the pad, I would dig a hole 4 foot in diameter and 8 inches deep. Lay plastic and an inch of pea gravel. Drop in some metal reinforcement mesh so you don't crack your slab. Then pour concrete to fill to ground level. Top with a foam mat. This will take about 8 cubit feet of concrete. There is 2/3 cu. ft. per 80 lb. bag of pre-mixed concrete, so 4 bags to be safe. Don't forget to put the pole in the center before it dries.
