    John, i would recommend that you round over your cleat tips. It doesn't need a lot, but it helps drop the hanger cleat into the receiving cleat, especially when you're mounting cleats you may not be able to see. 😊

    Good video, John. I like the idea of being able to reorganize tool locations relatively easily, but I'm not convinced that a French cleat wall is really better than screwing holders to a plywood wall - unless one is constantly reorganizing, not making. But it looks good and I see the value of "reorganizable regions" in a shop. Looking forward to seeing the evolution of your shop. Thanks for sharing.

    I think a makers work space and how things are stored, utilized and set up is just as important if not more so than actual woodworking projects. I love the French Cleat walls. I enjoy watching your shop project builds as much as anything else you do in the shop. As hobbiests, D.I.Y woodworkers, without a commercial shops budget or income, we have to make most of the storage, benches, furniture and everything else needed in a shop to make woodworking fun and enjoyable and efficient. Those items are super important and I really like that you show us the various things you do to that end in your shop. It's fun to watch you make a doe bowl and the end result is fantastic, but watching you design and build a simple yet effective French Cleat wall to organize your tools is practical and great to watch and get some ideas from. I am looking forward to seeing the new machines and tools you have coming up in the next year. Like guitar playing, a new instrument inspires creativity. New or upgraded tools inspires creativity which helps to keep the passion and enjoyment alive.

    French Cleats are so versatile and easy to make unique holders for as well. My shop has cleats on 3 of the 4 walls and I've even hung sone of my cabinets form them to ensure the tops are level as my floor is definitely not. Great video and nice to see your excellent content back on YT for us to enjoy.

    Nothing better than some workshops organisation. The side of the holders are great surfaces to to continue the organisation. It looks great.

    Another worthwhile project John. I trust that your workshop is fully secured. Video production must be terribly time consuming but it’s great to have you back.

    Nice vid. Let’s be honest, most builds we do are workshop improvements, just don’t tell the wife that!

    Birch plywood is super expensive where I am, you still able to get it reasonably cheap in Ireland. Great little project fella

      Its really expensive here too. I just had these pieces in the workshop for a long time, so I used them.

    Any recommendations on ideal or maximum size for a French cleat wall?

    • @JohnMcGrathManInShed
      @JohnMcGrathManInShed  6 днів тому

      You can make it as big as the load carrying capacity of the wall. everybody will have different requirements so make it as big as you need.

    Where did you get the birch ply, John?? Did it cost a fortune??

    • @JohnMcGrathManInShed
      @JohnMcGrathManInShed  День тому

      I've had it in the works shop over a year, to buy it now would be expensive. I think 12mm is €120 per sheet

      @JohnMcGrathManInShed yeah. It's really gone out of control. I have a small amount that I am holding on to untill I have something that I really want to build.
